It Belongs to a Museum

So far, Mathilde has shown little ability to burn down places.

Now, if we're talking about driving the sponsor of the museum insane, I would totally agree.
I guess the real choice here is between the boss who's immune because he's already bonkers, and the boss we want to drive insane on principle of fuck Marienburg.

Well, unless we can be a dragon. I wanted Dragon Librarian, and now I can only hope for Dragon Curator.

One the one hand, I think being an undead curator for one of the most infamous vampire pirates ever is really cool. On the other, I want to be a really pompous elf in a big floppy hat trying to figure out the madness that is human history and culture.

To everyone saying that the Vampire Coast are """"bad guys"""" while Sith Rionnasc are not, consider the following:

Sith Rionnasc:
  • Lapdogs of an Oligarchy (ugh)
  • Extension of Asur imperialism (yikes!)
  • Religious fanatics (worship of Stromfels, god of sharks and shipwrecks, is banned and harshly prosecuted. Literally 1984!)
  • Their bosses don't even care about the process of actually getting the artifacts for them, and even if they did they'd send other guys to do the dirty work. Not a good look!
  • They even have 'Sith' in their name! I mean, come on!

Vampire Coast:
  • Benevolent rule by an enlightened immortal (based)
  • Small independent country, unrelated to foreign imperialism (awesome!)
  • Religious tolerance (negotiates with Stromfels instead of murdering his worshippers)
  • Their boss actually cares enough to acquire artifacts himself!
  • Rescues innocent sailors from certain death (so certain, it already happened!)
  • Provides awesome magical gifts in exchange for inconsequential returns. I mean, it's not like they planned on doing anything after dying, right?
  • Unburdened by mortal hypocritical 'morality', therefore they can't be evil. Reject your humanity!

:V

True but it would have use tackle the themes of capitalism and i have already enough of it in real life, and i mean its not like im against that in participate in MNKH quest, but sometimes you just want to have that fantasy to not be just flavor or character skin of particular theme, but actual different stuff. and Pirate Museum ? dont tell me that it doesnt sound interesting ?
To be fair, we're probably dealing with mercantilism rather than capitalism in its modern form!

More seriously, there are other powers to cling to. The Asur nobility come to mind - firstly in terms of any lesser nobles who've migrated to Sith Rionnasc, presumably those who've fallen on hard times and might want to invest a little of their connections, name and remaining wealth into building a monument to the traditional prestige of Ulthuan (and thus their prestige) in their new home, and then, once we've cleared the bar of just being a pokey museum in one of the colonies, the actual nobles of Ulthuan itself for the projection of soft power.

In terms of the pirates... I see where you're coming from - certainly, it could be interesting to try to balance the competing desires, projects and aspirations of Luthor Harkon's personalities - but first and foremost I'm keen to see this be a museum quest that explores the nature of a museum in this setting and the questions around that. My concern would be that a museum in the Vampire Coast would be undead pirate first, museum second, and would flatten a lot of that exploration. Would still be happy to do that exploration and I'm sure Boney could make it thoroughly interesting, of course; just don't think that it has as much immediate potential in that direction.

Elf, used to being able to get firsthand accounts of most history in the last millennia: "What do you mean everyone involved is dead and nobody remembers where it happened? It was only 200 years ago!"

Compromise, maybe we can later in the character creation process vote to be a vampire elf with an interest in human culture and haberdashery?

well Vampire coast has the advantage of it not being Sartosa and of Luthor's ego. so i can actually imagine it being museum first.

One thing I want to add that might swing someone over to the vampire side, we don't have to be an undead I think. Boney did say that one part of chargen would be character race and such.

Just imagine it

Holy Shit, Skaven Indiana Jones. You are right that we have more choice in that character creation too.

Also there is much better chance of our character being female representation against the vampires. If we are going to be Elf there is less chance of female represantation because SV sees female elves as somewhat stereotypical for character choice.

That's really what I meant in my prior post about burnishing a single tyrant's ego - there wouldn't be as much of the navigation between a variety of different patrons with competing ideas and interests of what the museum should be. Granted, as above, you could argue that Luthor Harkon is himself a variety of different patrons, but you take my point! I'd prefer to be jockeying for interest and prestige in a constantly shifting political and cultural environment, not to be doing the bidding of a single pirate lord, even if that pirate lord is in fact many pirate lords.

@Boney. do you think we might expand Harkons museum to have branch in Sartosa ? seems like recruitment effort he might aprove of.

Total Warhammer might have given a false impression of how easy it would be to make Sartosa a hotspot of necromancy. Tilea is the heartland of Vampire Hunters, and the rest of the Old World has had five Vampire lineages teaching them very well why they wouldn't want two more gaining a foothold.

I just want some necromancy from an author who can really write well on this topic without shying away from its horror, but also without devaluing its merits.
If vampire pirates are the way to do this, then I'm going to rob a ship and build a museum for a vampire who will use it as a way to show off his wealth.
