Loyalty is its own Reward (A Traitor Legion Chapter Master Quest)

@ThunderOwl Spot check on one of my fluff traditions;

-[] Return to Sender
--[] If desired, Mist Shrikes who complete their training and become Battle Brothers may once per year send letters to the families they left behind and receive letters in turn, subject to appropriate scrutiny and censoring.

Will that increase the risk of Chapter Secrets getting out in a meaningful fashion?

[] Plan: Justice is Our Calling
-[] Judge, Jury, Executioner: Laws can be written, re-written, erased, and ignored by the highest of kings and the lowest of scum, but Justice does not care for words written, nor for words spoken. It cares only what one has done, and nothing more. (Brothers of the Chapter are encouraged and lauded for fighting for a just cause beyond the call of duty, be it defending a refugee camp, fighting in coordination with the Guard, or holding members of planetary governments (discreetly) accountable for their crimes.)
-[] Court of Night: With the passing of time, the Night of Fright has given rise to performances by the marines of the chapter, ones not so discreetly encouraged by Catalina. These performances are theatrical in nature, plays of both comedy and tragedy, though they are heavily influenced by the fantastical and monstrous of Luctusian fairy tales. Another common aspect to these plays is their tendency to lean on "mystery" (murder mysteries, investigations, etc.). These plays are not exclusive to the Night of Fright, and feature heavily in whatever other celebrations the Mist Shrikes partake in.
-[] The Feast of Talons: on the first day of the new Luctusian year, a tournament of war games will be held. The first day will feature a competition where squads of the chapter will face eachover in non-lethal combat throughout the Fortress Monastery. The second day will feature a series of duels, where the winner will be awarded with a weapon of their choice to be forged by the Chapter's finest artificers, and being awared with a badge of honor, marking him as a winner of the competition. The final day will be a day of feasting and reverly, where the chapter may relax and simply enjoy the company of their brothers. (Mechanical)

Might as well take a crack at this, since the original culture vote was my baby, lol. Regardless, I borrowed a bit from the first culture vote, and a bit from the current discussion. Again, would rather not add too many, both because it wouldn't feel like 50 years of natural development, and also because it'd dilute the message we're trying to get across. I'd appreciate any suggestions regardless!

edit: I condensed and modified my version of the Feast of Talons, so please take note of it if you decide to vote for my plan.

Then what is the point of them if we cant add some soul and unique Aspect to our chapter

Choosing not to do it because of a arbitary reason is just bad taste
The point is Thunderowl going out of his way to be nice to us and make this a collaborative storytelling exercise instead of just telling us to shut up and go along.

But if you're not going to tell stories then you're not holding up your end of the couch. And if your ideas are poorly thought out, then that makes for bad storytelling.

I am here, and writing and arguing in quests, because I want to be a better writer. So quite frankly, I flat out do not understand why being told an idea is not quite good enough for print bothers you.

You created a better mechanical tradition than I did. You beat me. Well done. Of course I'd incorporate it. Because the tradition and its mechanic is better than mine.

Just like how I let Nick name the animal I created for my first omake because his name was better than mine. And let Nick name parts of the chapter for my plan, because his names were better than mine. And rewrote more than half of an Omake - the Off-Kilter one - because Thunderowl is a better writer than me, made a suggestion that improved my writing, and forced me to grow up (just a little bit) as a writer by pointing out a flaw I hadn't considered.

And like how I admitted to cocking up the vote because of my errors with the title, and posted it in public so that not only would I remember it, but the rest of you would smack me if I forgot it. And didn't usually pick fights with winning plans, because even when I still thought they were wrong they were at least as good, and often better thought out, than mine.

Why is being told "Go back and rework this to be better" bothering you?

You sir are hypocriet i made several culture ideas put multiple days of thought into it you just insult it and call it lesser then yours

And now you want to play the innocent card

And for what just because you want to push for less Fluff Write-ins

I'm not calling it lesser - I'm calling it insufficient. You have some good ideas there. They could be better.

It's not hypocrisy to hold you to the same standard I'm (trying, anyway) to hold myself to.

I do not want less fluff write-ins. I want good fluff write ins. Accepting any write-in, regardless of quality, is not good fluff - it's bloat.

Severus is brutally cunning son of Curze! He had achieved an incredible strategy! He has found what living good and having such things as brotherhood, camaraderie and friendship is a form of spiteful vengeance against his Traitorous Legion.

And I like it

[X] Plan The Most Dangerous Game
-[X] Mechanic - The Feast of Talons
--[X] At the first day of the new Luctusian year, a three-part tournament and feast will be held. The first part will have the the Chapter battle brothers divided into randomized squad-sized groups and dispersed across the whole Fortress-Monastery, where each will have the objective of incapacitating every Marine not belonging to their own squad. At the same time members of Chapter and Company Command will act individually to also incapacitate all Marines they can. The second part will use the Strategium for the aforementioned random squads to wargame against each other. The third part will be a tournament in the manner of the Champion selection. Where the winner will get a Talon Champion medal with a personalized sword emblem behind the Shrike which will have tallies added to it for each successive victory, as well as the option of collaborating with a Techpriest to add ornamentation to their preferred weapon. At the end a grand feast will be held to celebrate and allow the brothers to bond over their performances.
-[X] Fluff - A Name Worth Fighting For
--[X] Each Company, upon earning a mechanically significant Trait, will be given a name/title that honors that trait, the option to add to the Company Heraldry and/or the Company Banner (pending approval from the Chapter Master and Master of Sanctity) and will open up possible actions in the appropriate Turn Planning phase to train other Companies in that Trait via appropriate dice roll. No duplicate names or heraldry.
-[X] Name Companies that already qualify for the Name Tradition
--[X] 2nd Company - Storm Breakers (Counter-Boarders)
--[X] 3rd Company - The Warpspite Brotherhood (Armor of Contempt)
--[X] 10th Company - The Blackfires (Saboteurs)
-[X] Fluff - Return to Sender
--[X] If desired, Mist Shrikes who complete their training and become Battle Brothers may once per year send letters to the families they left behind and receive letters in turn, subject to appropriate scrutiny and censoring.
-[X] Fluff - Comedy and Drama
--[X] At this point, the tradition of the Mist Shrikes as detectives and agents of the law is well known. Taking a suggestion from Catalina, the Shrikes and serfs will start making plays (A/N: in the fashion of American Noir films and books, and/or the nearest equivalent from East European fiction - sorry don't know much about that) out of famous cases (subject to scrutiny and censoring, as appropriate). Each story will be written and told one of two ways - the first as a serious drama, the second as a comedy. Variations accounting for different cultural tastes, such as Terran classics and Braicaman epics, will also be encouraged as will truthfulness within the bounds of sensibility.
-[X] Fluff - From The Imperium with Contempt
--[X] Those who feel so inclined may stencil/engrave mockery and insults onto solid ammunition, that the enemies of the Imperium know their folly in full as they die. Creativity is encouraged.
-[] Fluff Tradition: Court of Night:
--[] With the passing of time, the Night of Fright has given rise to performances by the marines of the chapter, ones not so discreetly encouraged by Catalina. These performances are theatrical in nature, plays of both comedy and tragedy, though they are heavily influenced by the fantastical and monstrous of Luctusian and Braicaman fairy tales. Another common aspect to these plays is their tendency to lean on "mystery" (murder mysteries, investigations, etc.)
-[] Fluff Tradition: Vault of Blades
--[] Together with the regular design of Power Sword, minor tweaking of the design to incorporate special variants of blades will be added as options. In particular, Luctusian sabers and falchions (of which there are many different sorts), Braicaman hand-and-half swords, and blade designs from friends of the Chapter will be included. Swordsmanship that exploits the unique characteristics of each blade are encouraged, as is seeking out new blade designs and sword styles to add to the Vault.
-[] Fluff Tradition: Shrike Wings:
--[] On Jump Packs, Bikes, and Attack Bikes (and Jetbikes if those ever become available), custom mountings for "wings" of metal slats, Sadist Shrike feathers, and appropriately noisy other bits of Luctusian fauna will be incorporated where desired. The wings themselves will be designed to shriek and howl, inspiring terror.

The rationale for each option
---The Feast of Talons is excellent - as a throwback to the Chapter's history from the first turn, as a means of keeping our battle brothers sharp, and as a means of provoking omakes. A decent mechanical benefit too, notables are always useful.
---A Name Worth Fighting For meshes well with the option to rename certain elements of the Chapter, and I hope it will inspire some artwork of heraldry and decorations.
---Return to Sender is mostly inspired by that POV from the Turn 10 Results update - the Mist Shrikes should be feared and respected, but not as a black hole from which only misery, uncertainty, and the occasional slaughtering of Luctusian wildlife emerges.
---Comedy and Drama leans into the aspect of the Chapter as Neo-Batman, and gives the Marines an artistic outlet that the more refined among them will appreciate and is a bit less morbid than some of the other stuff we do.
---From The Imperium with Contempt is a nice means of allowing short omakes in the form of poetry and clever insults, and fits well with the Chapter as a means of allowing those who can't join the fight to participate in a fashion.

EDIT:
---Added three other traditions I liked. I decided to not wrap the Court of Night into the Comedy and Tragedy because they are different enough to be worth the distinction.
---Decided to not include any non-english name changes, because while the names are cool making them multilingual doesn't add to the weight of tradition and confuses people.

I missed that. Just straight up in the process of bouncing between cleaning house and posting here, I missed that request for feedback. Not the first time I've missed something important in this thread.

Give me a bit to read them over, and I will provide suggestions.

Hey @ThunderOwl, what are the bonuses of these traditions:

-- Mechanical; Hidden tricks: Unbeknownst to the master of the forge, there was an underground market for armor modifications. Nothing crazy, but minor mods to get the jump on, surprise, disorient, or even kill their opponents if they get lucky. Hidden blades and single-use bolt shells, paint sprays from the feet. Even one marine had strobe lights placed in the eye sockets of his chest plate's Aquila. However, it was that marine flashing a bunch of genestealers on Lezo that exposed the underground market. And these mods would have died out if it weren't for Valzadai. After Karak Zel was done berating the tech marines, the ever-paranoid chief apothecary shared his mind and wanted more of these tricks. this was taken to the chapter master and after much debating veterans and those above sergeants would be allowed to have hidden tricks in their armor.

-- Mechanical; champion capes: Due to the gripes of the master of the forge one of the champions decided to create a cape that had all the names of notable foes he has defeated. Seeing an opportunity to cut down on work Karak Zel decided to design two types of capes, the first was a more ceremonial cape, it has the symbol of the chapter and in golden writing the names of all those who came before. For example, DuPont's ceremonial cape has his name and Spatha's name. The second is that of the cape of felled foes, like the ceremonial cape this also has names on it, however, not only does it miss the chapter's logo on the cape, but it has all the names of notable enemies that the champion has felled. The idea is that if the other marines see the cape their spirits would life as this is a man who slayed enemies aplenty, while those same enemies would dread facing down someone who ate them like breakfast.

-- Mechanical; mist screens: One of the more audacious augments is that of the mist screens employed by the assault squads, place between the turbines and the fog expelling out the back of the marine, a small device would expel dense fog to cover their approach. While it will always expel smoke if the marine's jump pack sends the marine skyward, a small button next to the marine's head could allow the assault marine to turn it on whenever they want. These were created during the Lezo campaign by an entrepreneurial assault marine, sticking these on the jump packs and filling them with the required materials to use, he and his squad were able to get the jump of genestealers more than once... until the master of the forge found out and forced those marines to help him scrounge for equipment in the junkyard. However the devices themselves were kept by the tech marines and later on, Kalashnikov improved upon the design so it could fit naturally with jump packs. With the go-ahead of both Severus and the master of the forge started to make these smoke machines not just for the vanguard, but for the eventual use of the mists of luctus for veteran sergeants.

-- Mechanical; Sharpshooter's serpentia: With the advent of both the elite sharpshooters and Karak Zel sharing the inner workings of volkite both the sharpshooters and tech marines want to show their prowess. So, with the approval of the chapter master, after the night of fright is concluded the sharpshooters will all come together and have a shooting competition. The marine who wins will get an engraved volkite serpentia. The hope of the chapter master is that those with a serpentia would be signaled as next in line for being sharpshooter sergeants. The only requirement other than being a sharpshooter is that they don't already have a serpenta.

So what are the bonuses for these? Just out of curiosity.

[X] Plan: become old Slavic
-[X] Fortress monestary name:
--[X] Ködgrad (mist castle in hungarian/russian)
-[X] Rename Honor Guard 10th Company Captains Librarians officers chapter master
--[X] Honor Guard: Druzhina ( fellowship) both organizationally and as an honorific
--[X] Librarians: Volkhv ( wisemen )
--[X] 10th Company: The Senkovatri (Shadow Fires)
---[X] 10th Company Sharpshooters: Strelci for plural and Strelec as singular .(Marksmen)
---[X] 10th Company Vanguards: Kandze for plural and Kandza as singular (Talons)
--[X] Captains: boyar
--[X] luitenant: Bogatyr
--[X] sergeant: desiatnuk
--[X] Chapter Master: Voivod/Knyaz(which ever the QM deems fit) The Lord of Mist
---[X] Example Voivod Severus The Lord of Mist
-[X] Fluff Tradition: Court of Night:
--[X] With the passing of time, the Night of Fright has given rise to performances by the marines of the chapter, ones not so discreetly encouraged by Catalina. These performances are theatrical in nature, plays of both comedy and tragedy, though they are heavily influenced by the fantastical and monstrous of Luctusian and Braicaman fairy tales. -[X] Fluff Tradition: Return to Sender:
--[X] If desired, Mist Shrikes who complete their training and become Battle Brothers may once per year send letters to the families they left behind and receive letters in turn, subject to appropriate scrutiny and censoring.
-[X] Fluff Tradition: Honor badge wings of valor:
--[X] In a small divergence from the Codex, the Wings of Valor shall replace the Laurels of Victory. Golden wings of valor are given to those who did a great feat that helped a campaign reach victory (Example: Konstyantyn saving the cardinal, Mikhail saving the Admiral). Platinum wings are just like the laurels, given to those who secured victory for the campaign at large (Example: Spatha killing the Genestealer), and are placed onto the side of the helmet and point behind the space marine (think of the wings of hermes's helmet). The Marine in question may choose whether they have full formal wings, or an insignia that is stamped onto the armor. The wings consist of the following elements;
---[X] A Campaign Badge that carries the planet and year of the campaign in question, either in the center of the wings or at the junction where the wings attach
---[X] Two symbols on the wings - one has the Company insignia inside the Chapter symbol, the other has the name of the recipient.
---[X] The wings or stamp will be detachable.
-[X] Write-in a new tradition you want to add for the Chapter (Fluff):
Vault of Blades
--[X] Together with the regular design of Power Sword, minor tweaking of the design to incorporate special variants of blades will be added as options.
-[X] Fluff Tradition: Druzhina the Antlered guard:
--[X] The Chapter Master's Honor Guard will be recognized by customized artificial antlers on the helmet (designed to imitate the Mist Deer, and not be a hindrance in combat) as well as a Shroud Wolf pelt from a specimen of said wolf they hunted and skinned themselves. Said pelt may be further modified by each Honor Guard, pending approval.
-[X] Fluff Tradition: Shrike Wings:
--[X] On Jump Packs, Bikes, and Attack Bikes (and Jetbikes if those ever become available), custom mountings for "wings" of metal slats, Sadist Shrike feathers, and appropriately noisy other bits of Luctusian fauna will be incorporated where desired. The wings themselves will be designed to shriek and howl, inspiring terror.
-[X] Fluff Tradition: Stone Gardens:
--[X] In their free time, Battle Brothers are invited to make stone statues, carvings, and other artwork in areas of the Monastery where it will not interfere with defense or other functions. Subject to appropriate approval, much is allowed - traditional gargoyles and Imperial iconography, Luctusian animals and landscapes, Braicaman paintings and statues - so on and so forth. Serfs are also invited to participate alongside the Battle Brothers. In particular, the Halls of Remembrance will have artwork recording the campaigns and acts of the Mist Shrikes to enhance the displays. All this work in the Halls will lead to a grand display (think Sistine Chapel, Taj Mahal, Lake Bled, so forth) of the Chapter as a whole in action.
-[X] Fluff Tradition: Hands of Service: When a marine reach's veteran status they will engrave their gauntlets to mark their status as a veteran. The right gauntlet is engraved with the shrike of the chapter and the left is engraved to depict a deed that the marine has accomplished before their promotion to veteran status.
-[X] Fluff Tradition: Wings of Leadership: Instead of having the standers crest of captaincy, captains will have Silver metal wings on the side of their helmets to mark their rank(like the Night Lords batwings)
-[X] Mechanic Tradition: The Feast of talons:
--[X] At the first day of the new Luctusian year, a three-part tournament and feast will be held. The first part will have the the Chapter battle brothers divided into randomized squad-sized groups and dispersed across the whole Fortress-Monastery, where each will have the objective of incapacitating every Marine not belonging to their own squad. At the end a grand feast will be held to celebrate and allow the brothers to bond over their performances.

Post the vote here will wait on meme if he can condense my own work that is in it

I will vote for any plan that uses my luctusian blades idea

Well then you must love mine

Edit had some chages with title names some where changed otherwise where not plus meme helped with to condense

Not really. The Chaplaincy would inspect all letters with a fine comb and triple check them to ensure there is nothing wrong with them.
-- Mechanical; Hidden tricks:
Vetoed.
-- Mechanical; champion capes:
Accessories can become Relics now during relic generation rolls.
-- Mechanical; mist screens:
Assault Marines can stealth.
-- Mechanical; Sharpshooter's serpentia:
Vetoed.

[X] Plan: become old Slavic

I vote this because sons of Curze can not escape Slavic theme. And because there is Return to sender tradition. The more links Astartes have to Humanity the more protected they are against temptations of Chaos in my opinion
