For the record, I'm going with bigger IG regiment sizes. For example, your average infantry regiment has 10,000 fighting men not a mere 1,000.

Hell canon even supports you on varied regiment sizes.

Pretty sure Krieger regiments were 200,000+ strong as a standard at the siege of Vraks.

Hive world regiments are huge.

Basically if you see an order of battle for Imperial Guard that lists 10 regiments, in reality you are dealing with a force of 10,000-2,000,000 soldiers.

So if we have 10,000 a regiment, than our Storm Legion would have 240,000 members. That is pretty sizable, now what would such a force be with the full backing of the Tau Empire...

*Many years later, the Dark Angels invade for the second time*

Dark Angels: "We have returned and the only force that could stop us is a puny legion of Guardsmen? Our long seperation has made you arrogant and weak if something so insignificant could stand against a first founding chapter and the most loyal one at that."

*The Dark Angels encounter 240K of Battlesuits*

Dark Angels: "How is that even possible!?" :o

Yeah, I'm aware of the varied regiment sizes in canon, but 1,000 men seems to get treated as the norm, which is way too low for me.

For the record, 10,000 men is just for infantry. For vehicle-based regiments, you are looking at a few hundred vehicles, perhaps several hundred vehicles. For battlesuit regiments, it would be something like a 1,000 Battlesuits at most and likely have costs akin to an armoured or artillery regiment.

Turn 19 = 590-594.M41 Results - Part II
[X] Give it over to Battlefleet Asgardia. Gain 1 Honourbound Favour with Battlefleet Asgardia

It takes a few years to set up the memorial service. Part of it is due to the need to rebuild Mjolnir to an acceptable degree, including setting up a temporary headquarters for the Iron Sentinels. Another part of it is organising all of the diplomatic visits to allow all of the important figures time to travel to Mjolnir. Yet the most important aspect of things is actually taking time to build the memorial as you cannot hold the memorial service without the memorial itself.

The crater where Arx Ferrea once stood is chosen as the memorial site. Ovald has made it clear that his Chapter will be setting up their new fortress-monastery in a different location on the planet while there is no more fitting site for the memorial to be placed. The memorial to the lives lost to the Dark Angels and their Successor Chapters shall be placed where the greatest loss took place.

In the end, the memorial ends up being one for the 1st Asgardian Crusade, acknowledging not just those who gave their lives against the sons of the Lion, but also against the heretics of the Surtar and Fafnir Sub-Sectors along with the Greenskins of Grendel. Those who gave their lives in the name of both the God-Emperor and the Asgardian Triumvirate.

And the memorial is no small thing, easily a large town or perhaps a small city in its own right. The memorial proper is a mighty cathedral, built into the surface of the surviving Iron Sentinel crypts. Secondary sites have memorials for fighting on specific worlds and then tertiary sites are set up for individual battles. Surrounding all of it is the supporting infrastructure to support both visiting pilgrims and the holy workers who shall maintain the memorial.

Unfortunately, the efforts to recognise the valiant dead of the Asgardia Sector don't go unnoticed. In the second year of the construction, the 1st Company of the Seraphs of Vengeance, another Dark Angels successor chapter, shows up in the Mjolnir system. These sons of the Lion have naught, but ill-intentions towards the memorial as they attempt to disrupt the construction.

The 3rd Company of the Iron Sentinels and the 9th Company of the Storm Avengers rise to the challenge to fight them off. While both companies barely have enough brothers to form one full-strength company, the Seraphs of Vengeance are oddly adverse to a open battle, instead contenting themselves with skirmishing. After several ineffectual clashes as the Bane of Heresy intercepts each time to land on Mjolnir's surface, the Seraphs of Vengeance make the surprising move of withdrawing rather than try to match the Storm Avengers in a pitched void battle.

This attempted set of raids combined with how many important figures are coming to the memorial service sees Mjolnir's defenders reinforced by the 4th Company of the Iron Sentinels along with the Huntress of Heresy. With close to two hundred Astartes and the pride of the Iron Sentinel Chapter Fleet defending Mjolnir, one thing that the sons of Guilliman can agree upon is that they won't let anyone get in the way of the memorial service without a fight.

A memorial service that will be political as much as anything else. With all three Chapter Masters, Living Saint Jorunn Forst and the Ethereal Supreme all attending, everyone with some degree of political influence in the Asgardia Sector attempts to get a place in attending the memorial service. Part of you wants to feel disgusted at them taking advantage of the situation, but the truth is that you are doing the same.

You'll be taking advantage of the memorial service to plot how to handle a similar invasion in the future with Osmadiel and Ovald. You want to tell yourself it is different for you, that you are doing it for the greater good of the Asgardian Triumvirate and not your own benefit, but does that really matter? You'll be using the memorial service to play politics like most if not all of the other attendees.

As the final preparations for the memorial take place, there is one last bit of trouble as the Kabal of the Black Reaping play their hand. Seeing the opportunity to raid a Space Marine homeworld and take many high value prisoners, the Dark Eldar attempt to split in a fleet of warships using their perfidious mimic drives to conceal their xenos nature. A cunning plan that was fortunately undone by the diligent security work of the Iron Sentinels and the Storm Avengers.

With tight security measures and carefully planning all authorised arrivals, the disguised alien vessels were swiftly identified. Instead of revealing the ruse and promptly dealing with the threat, the defenders chose to play along until they were in a position to reverse the trickery. No longer were Dark Eldar the ambushers as the Black Reaping found themselves the victim of a trap.

The Iron Sentinels and Storm Avengers engaged in swift, but brutal boarding actions, capturing several of the xenos vessels after slaughtering their unprepared crews in a stroke of good fortune. The remaining Dark Eldar vessels were destroyed, their hulls broken by the macrocannons and bombardment cannons of the Astartes warships at close range. Not a single one escapes.

Beyond the capture of the Dark Eldar warships and the totality of the victory, perhaps the biggest aspect of the engagement is when Captain Heimir Windson engages Archon Melakyth. Despite being faster and more skilled than the new captain of 9th Company, the leader of the Kabal was unprepared for the quickness of Heimir's Storm Hammer. Nullifying the effects of the Archon's clone field with a shockwave from his archeotech weapon, Heimir took advantage of the alien's surprise to reduce his upper body to a bloody pulp with a single swing.

It was a feat worthy of a Space Marine Captain and one that proved why Heimir had been chosen as Peder Freeson's replacement. A decision that none will now question, not that any questioned it before.

5 Battle-Brothers are promoted to Veterans. (9th Company)

Despite more than one attempt to disrupt the proceedings, the memorial service goes ahead as planned with every major political figure showing up. Canoness Superior Jorunn Forst makes a point to show up while a delegation from the Mechanica Sororitas show up alongside her. From outside the sector, the Tau Empire sends their Ethereal Supreme with Aun'Wei himself showing up as the xenos representative. The current High Queen of the Larants, the granddaughter of Srow also makes an appearance as do some ambassadors from the member-races of the Tau Empire. Gabriella von Grom also shows up, the rogue trader coming both to honour the heroic dead and do business with the assorted representatives.

You make a speech as do your fellow Chapter Masters, honouring those who fell in the 1st Asgardian Crusade and against the surprise attacks by the sons of the Lion. You reaffirm your vows to protect the Asgardia Sector and to serve the will of the God-Emperor and the Primarch. You show that the Asgardian Triumvirate remains united and committed to its course.

And following the speeches, you take advantage of the brief time you have before having to play politics with the crowd to speak with Ovald and Osmadiel. As much as the day is about those who sacrifice themselves for the God-Emperor and the Asgardia Sector, your duty requires you to look to the future.

"We need to prepare for the next crusade," you tell the other two and neither one disagrees with you.

How could they? Even if there are no signs of it yet, the next major invasion from the Imperium has always been a matter of when not if. Sooner or later, the wider Imperium will find out about you and after that, it is a matter of when they can spare the resources to slay you.

"You have something in mind, Torvald," says Osmadiel, a statement not a question.

"We need to ramp up our numbers," you reply, "We need to grow beyond three chapters in strength because the Imperium will send a crusade strong enough to crush three Space Marine Chapters. My Chapter is engaging in a large number of test-slaves to increase our gene-seed numbers before we engage in an expanded recruitment action."

"I was already planning something similar before recent events," replies Osmadiel, "I had already been stockpiling gene-seed using test-slaves in preparation for greater expansion of the Knights of Caliban. With what we extracted from our fallen brothers, we can easily double our numbers. Perhaps even triple them."

"While I see your point, my brothers and I are still in the process of rebuilding," says Ovald, "As much as I would sorely love to expand the ranks of my Chapter, such a thing will remain nothing more than a dream for the foreseeable future."

"The Storm Avengers can provide the Iron Sentinels with gene-seed," you offer, "We are both sons of Guilliman and my Chapter will have plenty to spare. We can easily afford to gift you with a few hundred units."

"That would be a most welcome honour and perhaps a needed one," replies Ovald, his grimness intensifying for a moment as your fellow Chapter Master's thoughts stray for an instance, "For now, I will settle for us regaining our full strength by the end of the next century. Expanding beyond the Codex one thousand, we shall leave that dream for the Storm Avengers and Knights of Caliban to realise."

And with that, your brief respite is over. As the leaders of the Asgardian Triumvirate, the three of you must now engage in politics. For such are the burdens of leadership.

Pick three people to focus on. No plan voting.

The Ur'Iso Dreadnought is a potentially dire threat, a remnant of an xenos species that required Roboute Guilliman himself to defeat and indirectly why the Primarch had such influence on the Asgardia Sector. For one to be discovered, well, it is a threat that the Storm Avengers cannot allow to go unanswered. Especially if the threat runs deeper than a single xenos battleship escaping destruction ten thousand years ago.

To that end, a mighty task force is assembled to handle the resurgent Ur'Iso threat. 1st Company shall act as the core of the taskforce while 4th, 6th, 8th and 13th Companies will make up the rest of it, the four companies able to provide two companies' worth of brothers between them. To provide a warship capable of dealing a Greatsword-class Dreadnought, you send the Might of Storms along with them as you have no finer warship than the flagship of your Chapter Fleet.

The hunt begins with a return to the same border region where 2nd Company found the Ur'Iso. It takes some time after that, but eventually the Might of Storms detects the same signal that the Storm of Vengeance picked up. After that, it is just a matter of tracking down the xenos and upon discovery, the Ur'Iso do not back down despite being outnumbered.

1st Company and the Might of Storms go after the dreadnought while each of four battle companies goes after one of the four galleys that detach themselves from the alien battleship. Their targets chosen, the Storm Avengers get ready to show the Ur'Iso why they are considered masters of void warfare and that the sons of Guilliman are still willing to put them in their place.

***

Captain Grimvard recovers quickly as he teleports into the Greatsword-class Dreadnought once its shields were brought down by the guns of the Might of Storms. It takes him a split-second to gain his bearings as he takes in the alien ship. The interior of the dreadnought is similar to its exterior with smooth walls, sleek curves and glowing orange lines. It looks like a work of art, only that work of art that is tainted by the fact that it was made by a xenos.

The entirety of Squad One-One surrounds Grimvard, armed with storm hammers, paragon blades and storm bolters while Brother Hrafn has a grav-cannon while Brother Osvald has a volk-cannon. All of them are clad in Indomitus-pattern Terminator Armour, ready to crush any resistance by the Ur'Iso crew.

"Contact!" calls Sergeant Valerianus as Grimvard notices that his own auspex is picking multiple incoming signals.

"For the God-Emperor and the Primarch!" roars Grimvard as he hefts his grav-pistol, "Let us show these xenos how our ancestors slaughtered theirs. We are the Avenging Storm!"

"We are the Avenging Storm!" echoes Squad One-One as the first of the enemy forces come into view.

Over a dozen hovering drones swoop down, preparing to fire their weapons. They die without firing a single shot as bolter fire shreds them while a trio are crushed by Hrafn's grav-cannon while Osvald sets a few ablaze with his volk-cannon.

"Forward!" orders Grimvard, "For the Primarch.!"

As the Storm Avengers further into the ship, the Ur'Iso continue to send more of their abominable intelligences after them. Hound-like machines with guns for heads that climb up and down both the walls and the ceiling. Armoured humanoid robots who wield hand-held hardlight guns and a rather annoying ability to teleport, disappearing in a flash of light before appearing nearby.

Most annoying. Grimvard hates it when his foes teleport. It makes it so hard to get a good aim and keep track of them. Especially since the enemy aren't decent enough to bring themselves into melee range. He might have it better than One-One in the Mighty Goliath, but even his Tartaros-pattern Terminator Armour is still rather unagile.

Nevertheless, the enemy doesn't slow them down. Shards and bolts of hardlight chips away at their paint, but it isn't enough to breach the ceramite and plasteel. And that is assuming that the xenos shots get past the conversion fields of their Terminator Armour. They are the Angels of Death and the machine-constructs of the Ur'Iso are finding out just what it means to stand against that.

But the Ur'Iso don't just have mere machines at their disposal.

"For the Reclamation!" howls a mechanical xenos voice as the newest foe approaches, "Slay the gene-forged!"

Clad in thick bulky armour with glowing orange eyes with the left arm ending in a blade of hardlight while the right arm has a gun attached to it, the Ur'Iso Knights look almost like a twisted parody of Space Marines in Terminator Armour.

Grimvard doesn't have time to muse beyond that as the Ur'Iso Knights fire up their jump packs while a renewed wave of Hounds, Soldiers and Drones begin their attack.

"We are the Avenging Storm!" howls Grimvard as he swings the Blade of Swift Absolution at the incoming xenos.

The holy relic meets resistance for a moment as the alien energy shield tries to keep at bay, but Grimvard's strength is too much. The shield gives away and the Storm Avenger's blade cleaves into the armour and flesh of the Ur'Iso Knight. The xenos warrior staggers back and Grimvard jams the barrel of his grav-pistol against the Ur'Iso Knight's chest before squeezing the trigger. The alien screams in pain as its armour is turned against it, crushing the warrior under its own mass.

Around him, the battle continues to rage. Osvald is cutting down the enemy machine-soldiers with his volk-cannon while Sergeant Valerianus sends an Ur'Iso Knight flying with a swing of his warhammer. An Ur'Iso Drone comes crashing to the ground in pieces and Grimvard aims his grav-pistol at a Soldier before pulling the trigger.

The machine shudders and staggers before dying as it is crushed by its own weight.

"Foul upstarts!" hisses a mechanical voice and Grimvard snaps his head around to face the speaker, "I am Lancer Future-of-Eternity and I shall-"

"Die in the name of the God-Emperor, xenos!" shouts Grimvard to the monologuing alien, firing his grav-pistol at the Ur'Iso Knight as he charges forth.

"Wretch!" screeches the Ur'Iso Knight, half in anger and half in pain.

The Lancer attempts to meet Grimvard's charge with its own blade, but the xenos is too slow. The Blade of Swift Absolution strikes out with holy speed and the sacred weapon rips through the Ur'Iso Knight. The xenos stumbles forward and Grimvard finishes the job before his foe can recover, pulling his blade back before stabbing into the eye of Lancer Future-of-Eternity.

"Less talk, more action," growls Grimvard at the corpses as the rest of One-One mops up the last of the enemy machine-soldiers.

***

In the end, the Ur'Iso fleet is defeated. All four Dagger-class Galleys are destroyed albeit not without cost as an eighth of the battle companies are lost in battle while the Avenging Crusader is crippled. While the strike cruiser is still fit to limp back to Midgardia, it will need years in a shipyard before the warship will be fit to go into battle again.

Unlike its escorts, the Greatsword-class Dreadnought was taken somewhat unbroken. Despite severe damage to the hull by the lances and plasma-macrocannons of the Might of Storms, the alien battleship's superstructure is intact enough to claim the wreck as salvage. Of course, it might be better to just destroy the hulk as while it could be a treasure trove of xenos technology and data, the Ur'Iso are well-known for leaving secrets and hidden traps behind.

What is done with the captured Ur'Iso Greatsword-class Dreadnought?

This turn is going to be a three-parter mainly because this update feels like it is getting quite big even if it is in terms of narrative rather than word count. In hindsight, I should have made the Mjolnir memorial service in the first part of the results phase, but it's too late for that now.

Anyway, you get a chance to play some politics and decide what you get to do with the alien battleship that you captured (somewhat) intact.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to.

Ok this turn has been great so far with stopping the da again and managing to defeat an archon of the deldar which is no low feat and capturing a couple deldar ships for study and the dreadnought great even more stuff for the research ring.

Also now game of politics has begun let's go talk with the Supreme ethereal, living saint forst, and the mech gal representative.

[ ] Rogue Trader Gabriella von Grom
[ ] Fabricator-General Mirieve Sepherira

I would recoment to focus on these 2, i don't have an opinion of the 3rd, i would suggest the Sororitas, but if i remember right they are also rebuilding forces

[ ] The Storm Avengers bring the wreck back to Midgardia with them.
Bring it back, maybe to a forgeworld to study, but bring it back study it and then, if needed break it.

Also we should check for surprises (hidden Tyranids Chaos demons or anything else) last thing i would want is for it to blow our home

We don't need a rogue Ai anywhere near our stuff

So are the Kabal of the Black Reaping done as a problem for our region of space? it has lost a lot ships and its Archon, that seems like a massive blow for a elder faction

The Ur'Iso Greatsword-class Dreadnought did seem like it had a lot of good tech, and after getting all the tech and info from it, could turn into a ship for our chapter

Fixed. Thanks for catching that.
13th company not 9th.

They taken a heavy blow, perhaps even a crippling one, but they could come back from it. Or maybe they'll move onto greener pasturers. Perhaps other Dark Eldar groups will consume the Kabal of the Black Reaping in their moment of weakness.

Our Cononess and Fabricator-General are our biggest issues at the moment. know out battle sister opinions about a possible Tau alliance would be perfect for now and when we can get our Hive Worlds up and running again.

Talking to Aun'Wei might provide us with some advice on how to integrate ourselves with the Tau and learn his opinions on the whole affair. Maybe we could persuade the Ethereal to provide relief aid as well. That does sound like something they would be willing to do given the circumstances.

The three also synergize very well so it might be possible to have them all in the same room right now for an initial introduction and figure out initial issues. It would still likely take another turn for something permanent to be made, but this is a good way to test the waters for the next plan.

We have so much tech to work with the Tau alone that it could take centuries. Given all our losses, I don't trust a vengeful Xeno to not give us some form of petty revenge. I'll stick with tech from friendly Xenos thank you very much.

It's either canoness or the rogue trader for me

We have the perfect opportunity to ask about joining the tau we should take it, in regards to the battleship I would really desperately like to study the technology of this thing as we need every advantage we can get.

@Oshha about the political meetings can we write in for our chosen individual about what are we gonna talk to about to them like you know there thoughts about the tau and maybe joining them and something other like so.

Also did we get the deldar ships cause I think asgardia would know that we love researching things normally not allowed in the imperium.
