"That's so cool! Tell me all about it! Did you see any of her Pokemon? Were they really strong? What did they do? Oh man, I wish I'd been there, but that's so awesome, it's so cool you got to meet one of the Elite Four! Come on, you have to tell me everything!"
Lets do that scene for after we leave or she's going to go bother the Tinkaton lol

The other vote is probably better for this specific battle but since this choice will also determine their future battle styles i'll go with fast and furious since Excadrill and Dragapault are Sweepers that move fast and hit strong. If talking about how Espurr can fit in this, she's kinda of an all-rounder with an attack move of every type and defensive moves like barrier and dual screens so I think she can fit most teams. Kinda want to go and make a Hyper Offensive team where our strategy is simple, just beat the opponent before they move.

[] Fast and Furious

Great chapter, loved the imteraction with everyone! Also, lol even Mary is realizing that shes "mom of the group" coded. Nice to see that Ostia is protective of us and all those indescribable looks mean shes probably thinking a lpt of her circumstamces. Also yipes... good choice with the Roland event and while Mary still doesnt know WHY Roland is hostile to Renne ( Mary sweety, im pretty sure you nearly got brain damage from the apathic Kitty, of course hes pissed; and thats not counting the double type wammy of ghost and dragon amplifying that) we at least have ... "sooth?" Him a tiny bit (this is totally still a problem) so hopefully we can begin chipping away at this before he evolves and decides to murder Renne (i wonder if we reach bond 3 with either before that point would help).

As for the strategy vote..... Im gonna be honest and say i have no clue what to choose. Im a "Fast and Furious" type of guy miself (i like sweepers, big numbers make me happy), but i can appreciate the enviromental control strat, which sounds a LOT more professional than hit fast and hard. First strategy is probably a lot better use the higher in the league we go, while The Fast and furious strategy (while good at the moment) is kimda.... predictable? As we go higher in the ladder (mind you thats my opinion) and like previosly stated with making a battle style that works with Renne in the future( she kinda works with either) we also need to be concious that this ALSO affects our future mons. For example, if we had gotten the nacl, strategy 1 works, while strategy 2... not so much. I know this in kinda irrelevant since we could maybe have multiple strategies or pokemon that dont fit said strategies and still make them work, but we need to at least consider it.

Tldr: I have 0 clue what battle style I want to choose since this will affect all pokemon Mary catches in the future.

I have a special place in my heart for Hyper Offense and Sweeper teams, so unless a really good argument comes through I'm probably voting for Fast and Furious.

I also like the Rally Race strategy it seems to be the basis of, each pokemon is set-up and preparation for the next. The longer they fight the better off our next pokemon will be, if we even have to send out our next pokemon at all.

Yeah honestly I'm waffling because I forgot an important point - both our kids right now have status moves as well as their stat debuffs, which can have a huge effect on fights just as much as HP damage or their stat changes. Spreading status is a good way to wear down enemies even if we can't set up and sweep them, and nothing Katie in particular should be using will be able to do much against Burn or Para.

I guess what the choice here really comes down to is gaining an advantage by affecting the battlefield, or gaining an advantage by affecting ourselves and the opponent.

Presumably both strategies have Neat Tricks that render them useless, we just have to get Neat Tricks of our to get around them. Just because we have an overall strategy doesn't mean we can't have sub-strategies that work around its weaknesses. If Fast and Furious stumbles against a great defence we can find ways to break through or get around it, maybe Rock Smash or Brick Break could help. If they outspeed us we can find ways to slow them down, Drilbur can throw mud everywhere and Roland can leave bug or fire mines, or use his shadow clone jutsu when he's strong enough.

Etcetera.

I believe I've already made my case.
More thoughts on Fast and Furious, and how it could suit our team, and hopefully thinking of getting a similar synergy level to what Nemona has. Since that seems like a surefire way to punch up.

Let's look at Renne here. How does she synergize with the team?

Well there's the classic set-up of screens, and with her move variety and the general utility of her non-phantasmal moves she can theoretically T up basically any opponent to be swept by whoever comes out next. Fast and Furious seems like it has the foundations of a battling style that means each pokemons speed blitz will destabilize or weaken the opponent in such a way that when we switch we can keep up the momentum and start off fresh at the advantage. Sort of like a rally race except when they hand off the baton it's used to beat someone's face in. Where Drilbur comes in and wrecks shop, then leaves them paralyzed and weakened so the other two could run circles around them and set-up in preparation for the next round. Just some thoughts I'm throwing together right now.

Drilbur crushed you with earth moves, you finally beat her > Next comes out Renne and you realize that your attack has been weakened, you're paralyzed so much even an Espurr can outpace you, and the Drilbur has left behind an entire battlefield of sharpened rocks and stone walls to use as ammo and barriers with a careful use of Psychic. > Renne has put you on the ropes but you finally take her out > You're exhausted, there's still cover leaving shadows everywhere, she's set-up screens for the next mon to come out, and she just used Baton Pass so they won't even have to waste time setting up > Roland comes out fresh to a battlefield made to suit him, his stats are auto-boosted, he's ready to burn and infest you, and he's fast and strong enough on his own. > More pokemon, more problems, etcetera.

I like the rally race metaphor, I'm gonna call this strategy the Rally Race method.

TLDR: On top of the general plan of attack hard, attack fast, and attack without mercy; the plan is to have each pokemom destabilize and weaken their opponent to T up whoever comes out next to replace them. Have one guy break the opponents knee so when our next guy comes out, who's weak to kicks and jumping attacks, he'll be all set to wreck shop.
Note before I asleep. Any Drilbur can help out with Steategy 1, only our specific Drilbur could do Strategy 2 (Fast and Furious) the way she can. She's uniquely suited to it with her electrical attacks. Roland and Renne can lean into both, but Strategy 2 really takes advantage of our Drilbur specifically is.

This is part of my campaign to vote for Fast and Furious, since I'm heading to sleep.

So Rika is the Claire expy.

After all, what are the chances that your class would somehow end up meeting a member of the Elite Four?
Well when you're the protagonist...

They're surprisingly heavy though.
Huh, strange detail to mention...

Are you really gonna try and scold an Elite Four member?
Please, she could be the champion and you would still do it.

Murkrow on the other hand is actually eating some of the Wild Pokemon, mostly focusing on the Nincadas, piercing their shells and pecking into their soft interiors for a snack.
Damn. Leave it up to Crow to be the murderous one.

every member of the church you've met has skilled Pokemon with them.
Says a lot about the church and the world then.

Ah, the local Aidios is the life deer huh.

Both are valid strategies. I just find the idea of people finding out that the motherly and shy Mary has a battle style that leaves the arena a blasted, spike filled, haunted wasteland amusing.

Need to catch a fire type so that we can also set everything on fire.

I want to see where Drilbur can go with the electric moves/typing thing, because that seems like an interesting and weird capability to extrapolate on. Therefore, because this plan is the one that supports that, I want to go with it.
