Given the way Ursa acts towards Azula in the show, I think the hate is in fact entirely justified. The problem with Ozai's favouritism wasn't that he was favouring the wrong kid, it was that it was favouritism.

I think Ursa did love Azula! I think Azula knows that, even. I think that's worse for Azula, because it means loving Azula wasn't enough to change anything.

Ursa ultimately failed to deal with Azula as one would with their child, whetever because of Ozai´s word being absolute, just by his interference (him being outwardly incredibly proud of her more concerning tendencies while Ursa was apprehensive) driving a stake between them, or whatever else. Azula is not wrong for resenting her mother, she was a child.

Its very poor consolation for someone, especially someone that is still a kid, that that there were perhaps entirely valid reasons for why they got as fucked over as they got.

That's not out of hatred. That's more Azula tired of Zuko's Rosy self delusions which are as much an insult to her mothers sacrifice and love as they are a desperate clinging to childhood innocence when Zuko has embraced a path(Firelord) that requires him to grow up.

Careless failure to censor herself, defeatist submission to Ozai's attempts to limit her interactions with her daughter, and lack of attempts to understand her.

Indeed. It's more about choosing a favorite child, much like some of Azula's Ozai trauma is the worry that he less chose her than he rejected Zuko.

Yeah. She is rejecting the Idea of being loved because it hurts less for Ursa to choose Zuko if she doesn't love Azula than if she did love Azula and still chose Zuko.

I don´t know enough about Firelord´s court to say otherwise. For all i know he could have threatened her with death.

Ultimately what i think happened is that she tried to shield the child that seemed like they were suffering more. Thats a failing, but absent any further information, i can´t really say if she could have done more. Sometimes, situation doesn´t have a solution that helps everyone. Life is shit like that.

I wonder who's doing this to her, a spirit or is this all in her head?

I don't think there's a way she can get out of this without being locked up in the end. No one of the other nations are going to forgive and forget. A sudden change to her character will be met by suspicion.

I'm sure the other nations would want to lock her up, but as the avatar demonstrates, the earth kingdom is a big place, and it's hard to track down a 10 meter long sky bison, let alone a single young fire nation girl and her special earth bender police who can hide in the walls of any stone structure.

Between the colonies, republic city, parenthood, Azula can likely hide until adulthood renders her unrecognisable to all but a handful of people and those handful of people are too busy with the duties they've taken on to devote energy to tracking her down.

"Aluza" ending up earth kingdom rep to republic city and seeing her and Tarrlok bounce off each other while her agents control the kingdom from the shadows would be funny.

Azula has, so far, showed a lack of curiosity regarding why the loops are occurring.

I assume that's because she already had the panic and crisis over time looping endlessly the first two times around (along with the general madness brought on by the mental/psychological chickens coming home to roost). And as of now, the story isn't about the mechanics of the loops - it's about Azula, and how she uses the loops to self-actualize.

Still, I do wonder if the story will ever get around to the nature of the loops and if an explanation is forthcoming.

Think bigger. The Red Lotus air bender is doing the whole suffocate the earth queen bit, when suddenly he's struck from behind by lighting that arcs above his companions. An elderly Azula steps out of a particularly dark set of shadows and says "Sorry if I was a tad rough, but clearly that young man needed a lesson in not breaking other peoples toys."

It all comes back to her, in the end. Ursa, who killed the Fire Lord. Ursa, who loved her son more than her daughter. Ursa, who left without saying goodbye. I want Azula to start picking up on that a little more.
