Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

I'm also gonna note not everyone at all times is doin g war things like there are wizards who just aren't contributing much to the war simply cause their stuff is not all that useful for it. Like I'm sure there's at least one wizard whose talents lend towards ghost stuff which you know probably helpful during kemmler time but isn't worth Jack shit here.

Yes there are, most of them are probably not up for inter-dimensional exploration. I know you guys know Molly's hell isn't dangerous, the Council as a whole has no reason to assume that, that is what this mission is about and you introduced yourself with the metaphysical equivalent of boss music starting to play, omens and strange dreams devices that go off when the world is under threat etc...

John C. Random Wizard is not who you go to for Hell exploration.

Guys, it is worth keeping in mind these people are in a war which means their manpower is limited and also every wizard is at least on some level a magic nerd, which is the kind of specialist required.

Also this was probably a decision made by committee.
That's fair; I just find it strange that they didn't put a spirit nerd in charge with security on backup, and that they didn't try to get a spirit nerd with more local interests.

Doing a senior security-junior security pair with Dresden and Morgan, then the same thing with spirit talkers seems like it'd make more sense unless they simply don't have someone with more relevant experience than Ramirez.

The White Council has some issues, one of them is that seniority is not easily trumped. It would be a significant insult to make Morgan Wu Mei's subordinate

I mean in fairness by all rights they shouldn't expect anyone to survive if the place is at all dangerous. Like wizards are already severely outclassed by many nevernever beings just most of said beings are limited outside of the place.

Do people still think it's a nevernever realm despite proof that it's not?

Yeah, that sounds like a great pitch to get John C. Random Wizard out of his comfy armchair, 'if anything goes wrong the Warden we sent with you will be just as dead.' :V

The council knows about places where if they sent the entire white council to fight at once they'd believe their chances of winning are near zero. So not sure why they're lending towards muscle at all in their mind set.

Edit: now if it's for alliance stuff sure but like for god damn muscle they wouldn't send Morgan to fight eldest gruff much less a hell lord.

Let me be explicit here, the Senior Council does not have the power to force anyone to go on a mission like this except perhaps the Wardens, everyone else has to be a volunteer, one who is willing to take the risk. They would probably prefer if the wardens too were volunteers.

I get that now but like why is muscle a viewpoint they have at all? When going into the nevernever it's pretty much assumed Every wizard is outmatched and in plenty of places all of them would be outmatched at once. That's like kind of the deal and they know that.

To be fair, John C. Random Wizard is still someone who had the will, tenacity, curiosity and bravery to master master magic.

You don't get cowards or incurious people in the White Council, those would stay Sorcerers.

They are still inherently more willing to take risks than everyone else, the Wardens have a selection process that includes 'will risk death and worse'.

You do get people with very focused forms of curiosity though.

Ehhhh there are cowards in the council or at least rats. Mind you most are decently brave not many have harry or harry plus will though.

I'm pretty sure you can't go from Sorcerer to actual Wizard without making some deals. It's an inherent quality of your soul. Sorcerers don't have the same flexibility as wizards even if they have the power. And you can't change it through training and study alone.

Someone who has the talent to become a Wizard, can still fall short of fully realizing it without putting in the effort, or getting the training.

The first and least serious being that Morgan is a key war asset and this puts him out of reach, possibly even detectably so. Even if he car fight his presence is still a factor for assaulting a facility.
On the other hand, one of the things that Molly has demonstrated from her hell (in front of Harry, at least, so I'm not sure if the White Council would actually know) is incredible medical accomplishments. Sending Morgan there, suffering from "really bad chemical smoke inhalation", gives them the chance of getting him back on the field as soon as he's back from this trip, rather than being on light duty for months....

Its the path of least bullshit. If these people are on a timetable many of the comforts we could offer would seem like a patronizing, obfuscating clown show and we should make sure that any down time comes after they get at least something of a look at things. That way it becomes a moment to reflect and ruminate rather than making them feel like they are sitting around with their thumbs up their respective assholes.

We'll treat them to dinner there at some point.
