[X] This will seem a strange route, but I assure you it will work. With the armies of the Empire on the march, travel in the Empire itself is too dangerous. However, before I became Archmage, I saved the life of a Feliceian, and I have maintained quiet but good relations with their tribe ever since. I'll teleport you to the border between our lands, cross the river and they'll find you fairly quickly. Ask for Moonwatcher Leaping-Grass, he'll get you to Cat's Cradle, and from there you can take ship anywhere you need to go. A roundabout route, to be sure, but certainly unexpected and unwatched.

[X] I will be teleporting you to Peace Point. From there, it will be easy for you to get into Whitewing territory, and they will ferry you back to Agrithe. There is a line of credit for the Hall to pay for your travel; simply deliver this note to the Mercenary Center in Syrene; they'll send you on your way. I do not foresee any dangers along this path.

You grimace; you wish you knew what your ancient counterparts had been thinking! There had to be a reason for what they'd done, but Mother's sake you can't think of what it might be!
Gee, Ryza, I don't know. Maybe a lot of them lost their shit when they found out humans were grinding up manakete souls to power theor magic tools! You got so mad when you found out that you marched up to Artemis and demanded to know why she hadn't told you sooner! The mere thought of it had you so mad you were reduced to internal screaming and outrage on multiple occasions!
The Voice's eyes narrow slightly, but he sighs. "Then I am sorry to say that you will be disappointed, Lord Archmage,"
The Regent continues to be the dumbest motherfucker. He didn't even pretend to be sorry about the massive breach in protocol that is continuing to happen.
The Lord Regent bids me give this to you, and it will have more details, but he requests that you come to Wyrmrise, so that the two of you may speak in person." The Archmage takes the letter, but doesn't speak. After a moment, the Voice continues. "Despite what you might believe, his Excellency has the utmost respect for you and for the services that the Marble Hall provides. He hopes that you and he might come to understand each other better, so that there will be no discord in the Empire in these trying times."
I might've believed that if there weren't still soldiers right outside the Marble Hall's borders!
Slowly, the knight drives the banner deeper into the ground before taking his hand off of it, folding it in front of him. "I can assure you, Lord Archmage, that there are no plans or orders to enter the Hall's domain without your consent," he says quietly. "Those men are simply… they are here to monitor and control the movements of anyone connected with Imperial regions in open rebellion.
The Voice is evidently a poor liar. Either that, or even he can tell he's being forced to spout complete bullshit.
The knight sighs. "I understand your concerns, Lord Archmage," he says quietly, releasing the shaft of his banner again. "And I say again, there are no plans or orders to attempt any intrusion." He starts to grab the banner again, only to pause and slowly release it again. "Lord Archmage… the Empire must stand together, you know that, right?" he says in a quiet, tired voice. "I have seen the border regions, and I have seen the heartland, and the difference between them is stark. Bandits, plague, monsters, demi-humans… those threats do not exist where the Empire is strong. Regent Justinian wishes to ensure the safety and security of all humans, just as the First Emperor did. Only in unity is there safety."
Oh good, Justinian is using xenophobia to justify his blatant attempts at producing a dictatorship. I can guarantee the first three issues still exist in the Empire's core. Disease and monsters will always exist. The banditry still happens in the Empire's core; the only difference is who is doing the stealing.

We will always have another chance to meet cat people. Our very presence will prevent deaths, especially now that we can use Mend.

We don't know when that started to happen, we know that it did happen during the war (we don't know how many tools were made during the conflict, at the very least there must have been like 100 mages with books, they were instrumental during the war according to Thundercrier) but the main magical weapons in those times were the ones given by the Master, who teached how to reproduce the effect somewhat.
Either way, sane people would kill the ones directly responsible, not wage war against an entire species if that is how humans saw it.

That makes me think that the manaketes were not sane, they were inflicted with something like the degeneration in cannon Fire Emblem. Many were masters of magic and logic against people who had started taking their first steps on magic. Logic dictates that if the Manaketes were indeed trying to kill all humans, they could have succeeded easily. Insanity would explain the behaviour.

Yeah, like somehow the contract they made with the Mother was broken and they all degenerated rapidly and immediately into highly suggestible beasts.

For some reason it didn't affect all manaketes as far as we know (if the texts in Circling the Towers are true), so the contract theory may not apply. But following with the theme that Manaketes are highly emotional creatures. Could it have been the product of something like a spell capable of locking emotions and thoughts, in this case anger and despair? I don't know if it could be possible, but is a possibility I guess. Something created with Fire + White + Electric + Dark I think. The work of someone with access to large gatherings, like Shyrlonay.

And over time that causes the degeneration of having the dragon side always in charge, driven by those emotions.

On a side note, I want to remind that the Fire Emblem of this world is the Fell Dragon dragonstone.
(I bet is Ryza's mother)

As much as I like cat people I think that this is the better way as we could possibly get the previous thing of getting involved with the things up north that riza's friends are involved with by conspiracy intervention.

The Whitewings have had screentime already, and the first segments of Fire Emblem games nearly always go on widereaching tours of the setting to assemble the party. And Ryza's had questions about beaststones before as well.

You know what? I've changed my mind. Considering metaknowledge from Dr.Strange expy's vision, we need to find at least 4 more manakete children anyway. The more we travel, the greater our chance of finding them.

Edit: Also, if this was a Fire Emblem game, you could do a 'pick the protagonist' thing and follow the story from either Ryza's or Artemis' POV.

It's always funny to me when there are options that everyone looks at and just say "nope."
We liked Reasonable Grandpa Fire Mage. We did not like his (unkind words Ryza may not even know) of a mistress who demanded his return for purposes liable to be unkind. We do not trust his (same unkind words) mistress as far as she could throw Dragon!Ryza.

So... I guess that we're just noping out right away then. Guess we should probably ask the Archmage to tell our friends and acquaintances goodbye.

This fool just described the lack of cat people in the core of the empire as an upside, and something that should be made true elsewhere. He must perish.

Obtain cat friends.

I am sure that Callistra, under her prickly and stressful exterior, would be an adorable person and a potential friend.

In another time you might be right. In a time when we're able to exist as a manakete, you might be right.

In the present time under the present Imperial culture? Those are dice I do not particularly care to roll.

Alright, pretty close, but looks like you're taking the quick route back.

Could I get a d6 please?
