You could cancel this vote and start it over again.
Can you give me a quick explanation of the specific forum controls I need to cancel the vote? I'm sorry, this is probably a serious dummy question, but I've been focusing fully on the dossier and I'm still not fully familiarized with all of the tally functions.

Technically you haven't opened a vote in the thread so there's nothing for you to cancel in that sense. You would just be declaring to the quest participants that the previous votes are void and that they need to vote again.

The tally software defaults to counting from the last threadmark so there wouldn't be anything you have to change there if you want to only count the votes that pop up after you declare voting is starting over from scratch.

Ah, that makes sense, thank you.

I confess, one irritating factor in this quest is that there are works that I haven't actually finished yet, so I technically can't make full use of their potential capabilities (mainly FGO and FFXIV). FGO in particular is a tough one because the remainder of the Lostbelt Arc hasn't even released in NA yet, and I don't want to spoil myself by reading translated JP materials, so...I'm just a little bit screwed there.

Of course there's no guarantee those will even be picked in the end, but if they do, it's something I'll need to work around. Or else add into the game in some way as I get caught up.

I mean, as long as you've finished Endwalker you're good so far as FFXIV goes. For FGO though... Honestly you're already so far outside of the normal parameters of that setting you're making up a lot of rules anyways, so I would would just stick with that honestly.

I'm just past the end of Shadowbringers 5.1. I am working on the rest of it, but I'm not quite there yet. To be sure, if there's big capability stuff I'm missing because of that, should I just leave it out of the quest altogether?

Considering Endwalker touches on literal space travel, both interplanetary and at least some flavor of intergalactic, yes it's highly relevant.

Side note, have you played the Omega raid series?

I HAVE cleared the Omega raid, yes.

That said, I knew that Endwalker was going to involve haunted moon bullshit, but if it goes beyond that, well...crap. I may have to just leave FFXIV out this time around. At the very least, I don't think it'd be fair to make everyone wait until I've cleared Endwalker, now that I've gone and set this whole quest up.

Honestly I think you should probably figure out exactly what settings and factions you want to let us draw from and lay them all out in a new post.

And don't forget to threadmark that post so that the vote tally will pick up from after it.

To be sure, the original list I made hasn't changed, I'm pretty happy with the overall choice lineup I've put together. The main issue is that in the case of FFXIV specifically, including it as an option when I haven't finished the Main Story was probably premature of me. I got excited and put in before considering if my current knowledge was sufficient.

I can say with certainty that I'm not willing to read ahead in the story and spoil myself just for the sake of optimally portraying the faction in a quest. I value my FFXIV game experience too much to do that.

And if where I'm currently at doesn't give enough of the full picture to properly do the faction justice in this type of quest, it's probably best to rescind it as an option, as much as it pains me. The alternative is pressing ahead with what I DO know and just extrapolating as best I can, which will likely irritate the players who HAVE finished Endwalker.

I can probably just fill in the spot with something else, there's no shortage of cool and useful sci-fi and science fantasy settings to work with.

Kusan in engineering and mass production, Kusan, Halo, Lancer, and Macross in ship design, Nier Automa in personal scale weapons and defenses, Legends New Republic(Star Wars) in ship-to-ship weapons(when you are treating the most extreme feats as the outliers that they are) and STL(slower than light) propulsion technology, Star Wars almost ties them in shielding technology(minus the ability for Strikecraft and slow missiles to bypass their shields), while Halo actually beats them by a massive landslide in terms of shielding technology once you bring in outright Forerunner designs instead of the Covenant's poorly made knockoffs or the UNSC's early re-creations of those knockoffs; and both Macross and Lancer aren't all that far behind them in terms of raw-energy calculations, and have better ship designs as well.

both our Destiny faction and Chaldea both blow the Federation out of the water in terms of research and reverse engineering capabilities, while Halo, Lancer, and Final Fantasy are at around the same level in terms of those capabilities.

Halo, Lancer, Macross, and the Kushan(Homeworld series), all beat them in terms of experience, strategy, and tactics; while Halo, Lancer, Macross, Kushan, and Star Wars(minus the overly exposed bridge) all beat out the Federation's ships in durability once the shields are down; Halo, Star Wars, and the Kushan(and maybe the other main two) all beat them in terms of feats of large scale engineering(as the UNSC had mass proliferated out orbital space elevators even before the war with the covenant began).

average shield strength relative to the mass of the ship, and Raw Energy Calculations are the only two areas where it can be argued that the Federation actually beats out the others, and even then Halo has some things with stronger shields(such as the Infinity), that could be proliferated outwards when combined with Kushan engineering, while Star Wars, even when just limited to the New Republic(Legends timeline), has certain feats that blow out basically everything that the other factions have(save for Super Macs and the Nova Bomb) in terms of the sheer amount of energy required, such as a next-gen X-wing(two versions after those that faced the Death Star) moving at almost half the speed of light to escape the pull of a Dovin-Basal created black hole that formed within a few meters of its hull, close enough to literally suck in its shields.

:o Well..hot damn,Macross feats certainly are something after reading up about them.
Alright yours and Spart's posts convinced me,im switching out the Feds for em.(still keeping Lancer in tho since they seem reasonably powerful and fun narrative wise)
Also i didn't know the Feds were that weak compared to the others on the list,i guess their specific flavor of nonsense doesn't hold that well when under closer look(compared to the afformentioned list that is,they're certainly powerful within their own universe)

[X] New United Nations (Macross)
[X] The Kushan (Homeworld)
[X] Union (Lancer)
[X] Chaldea Security Organization (Fate/Grand Order)
[X] Alliance of Sol (Destiny)

EDIT:Crap i didn't see the post regarding the new vote before posting this,oh well(granted il prob vote for the same guys in it,so it doesnt matter much)

Faction Description List and Game Setting Update
Alright folks, it took a crapload of research and writing, but I've finished with my current dossier of factions. Please read through the list and then vote for five you want to see in the coalition. You must choose AT LEAST one Core Faction. Ancillary Factions are technically optional, but I'd recommend having at least one or two.

Additionally, I've decided to go with the advice of @Spart117MC and do away with the Planar Seed business. All technologies and powers for each faction will be unlocked from the start, HOWEVER, this doesn't mean that they will just function like usual, or that they are as safe to use as they were before. All these new dimensions either intersect or are adjacent to the Warp, and that means the Warp Storms and Rifts and other spatial anomalies WILL act as navigational hazards, and you can expect even general performance to be impacted in many cases. The use of extraversal supernatural powers may also have unforseen complications and hazards due for the same reason. Basically, tread with care.

As a reminder, all factions listed below are composed of souls who have already passed on from their original timeline, who are now being recruited for a second life, a shot to make a positive impact in a universe that desperately needs it. Most of their memories remain intact, but some of it may be fuzzy due to to timeline shifting and sorting shenanigans.

Terminology Note: In this case, transit drives facilitate navigation through an alternate dimension with some travel time. Meanwhile, jump drives facilitate near-instantaneous translation from one realspace location to another, usually by tunneling through an alternate layer of reality.

IMPORTANT!

For the current vote, I'd like everyone to focus on faction selection first before voting on the location and insertion type. I believe confirming the faction lineup beforehand will help with making the latter two choices.

Please remember to vote for 5 factions from the current list, no more and no less. And if you're going to suggest a write-in, please give some reasoning for your choice and maybe a bit of background on the custom candidate. If I decide to approve it, I'll edit in a new entry in the dossier list below.

Core Factions List

Citadel Council (Mass Effect)

Timeline Origin: End of the Reaper War

Recruitment Base
Revived souls ranging from the Saren Conflict to the end of the Reaper War, as well as revived souls from the Andromeda Initiative.

Additional Info
This version of the Citadel Council is pulled from a timeline in which Commander Shepard and his team discovered a critical cache of Remnant technology in the ruins of a Prothean laboratory. With the assistance from the Geth and their computational resources, they used the technology of this cache to modify the Crucible to broadcast a galaxy-spanning, targeted anti-Reaper indoctrination signal.

All Reapers exposed to it would either resist it all the way, triggering a catastrophic self-destruct chain as their systems melted down under the strain, or would be forced to fundamentally accept the monstrous error of their current path, and forever turn from the path of aggression. Very few Reapers survived the ordeal.

Basically, the original ME3 endings all kinda sucked in different ways, so I decided to write my own.

Confirmed Major Characters
Commander John Shepard (Male Shep) / Garrus Vakarian / Ashley Williams / Kaiden Alenko / Liara T'Soni / Jeff "Joker" Moreau / EDI / Tali'Zorah / Urdnot Wrex / Urdnot Bakara / Miranda Lawson / Mordin Solus / Jack / Grunt / Thane Krios / Legion / James Vega / Admiral Steven Hackett / Captain David Anderson / Scott Ryder / Sara Ryder / SAM / Vetra Nyx / Nakmor Kesh / Nakmor Drack

FTL Method: Blinkspace Gates

Author's Note: Lancer is from a tabletop game, so there aren't really any full-scale stories to draw characters or noteworthy units from, most will likely have to be created in the current story as we go. Additionally, this is the only Core Faction which does not have ship-based FTL, so another Core Faction would need to be included to cover that gap.

A good amount of setting lore can be found at the following links:

FTL Method: Unknown - The NLS acronym appended to human jumpship drives apparently means Near Light Speed, and is thus not viable for interstellar travel in a useful timeframe. The FTL of the Eliksni and the Cabal is not elaborated on at all. My assumption is that they use some form of dimensional transit engine, like Slipspace (Halo) or Hyperspace (Star Wars).

Notable Units: H.E.L.M. / The Traveler

Sidereal Commonwealth (Mobile Suit Gundam)

Timeline Origin: UC 105 (Custom Continuity)

Additional Info
In this branch of the Universal Century, the events of the Laplace Incident and its revelations triggered a major sea change in the political landscape of both the Earth Federation and the spacenoid diaspora. Many nations and citizens of Earth in particular were increasingly disillusioned with the shameful legacy of the current Federation, though the hidebound and privileged echelons of Earth continued to fight tooth and nail against any substantial reform.

And so in the year UC 100, thanks to the tireless diplomatic efforts of Mineva Zabi and her supporters, and amid rising political turmoil within the Earth Federation, the Republic of Zeon, the lunar city of Von Braun, and several other major space colonies and clusters banded together with along with over a dozen major Earth-based nations against the grain of the Federation to form the Sidereal Commonwealth.

A new transnational union founded upon the true ideals of the original Universal Century charter, with a constitutional framework supporting substantial civil rights and guaranteed political representation for all people within its borders, as well as democratic control and equitable distribution of major economic resources for the benefit of all humanity.

Alas, even as humanity took this bold step toward a brighter future, many corrupt and reactionary elements of the fracturing Earth Federation and lingering extremist Neo-Zeon hardliners took exception to this new state of affairs, resulting in the outbreak of a series of multilateral, highly destructive armed conflicts against the nascent Sidereal Commonwealth (UC 101). This chain of events led to the defection of Londo Bell and sympathetic units from the EFSF to the Commonwealth.

In UC 105, what became known as the Succession Wars finally came to an end, with the Sidereal Commonwealth emerging bloodied but victorious, with the last of the Neo-Zeon holdouts defeated and the Earth Federation now a crippled and effectively defunct organization, with the Commonwealth now left to pick up the pieces.

Recruitment Base
Revived souls from the start of the Laplace Incident through to the end of the Succession Wars.

Notable Units: Nahel Argama / RX-0 Unicorn Gundam

Now for location, does anyone have recommendations?

Now for location, does anyone have recommendations?

Obscurus or Pacificus are probably best, not too many Big things around, for Obscurus i suggest up near the edge, far away from the Tyranid appraoch and far enough away for our colilition to build up with few bigg groups. The proximity to the Eye is a bit concerning, but that's why i also suggested Pacificus.

Pacificus itself is, from what i remember and know, pretty barren of Big stuff, like yeah there is Badab and probably the Red Corsairs about, but other then that it's pretty empty.

Hmm, okay then, maybe we should start out with Pacificus? The Author said that we could emerge anywhere except for Segmentum Solar right? Then we probably want to come out in a resource rich star system far away from any major powers
