Hogwarts Sect of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Absolutely true, and I personally don't want to (nor, I believe, need to, as we're very unlikely to lose both combat encounters) use the extra action on a social, in August. The sentence you quoted was an answer to a discussion around whether my plan couldn't cover those 3 socials or not. It absolutely can, as long as we'd rather do that than increase the training odds (I don't).

I personally don't even want to lose a single combat encounter. I want as many Social Encounters as possible. This is the summer break and I want to spend time with our friends. Its not just about learning, I love the social stuff we do every thing and the worst case scenario in your plan is basically that we only get small amount of Social actions total, which is crazy. I want to find out more about Mom, I want to spend time with Dad, I want to Spend time with friends. I'm greedy and want as many as possible.

I don't wanna lose a single combat encounter, either, of course! I assume (and hope) no one in this thread does. ^^

And I understand your position (though I've already explained plenty of times why I don't wholly share it myself), but just to be clear, you are not voting for a plan with "as many as possible" social actions, but simply for one with more than mine. Either way, that's fine. We're in good hands no matter what.

So. If I am reading it right, Meridan adjustment doesn't take an action, so the most socials people get is 4 socials (+1) for 4 actions (from the 3-5 range).

I may just cannibalize the leading plan later to see if I can draw people into going Max Socials. Though the 5th leading socials plan is the Diagon Alley one, so I don't have much confidence in it getting that much votes.

One more is huge. Zinay's plan guarantees the minimum for me, while making sure what we do get is going to be done well and likely maxed out.

Alright I'll give my take on Ancient Runes

Why Ancient Runes?

Fundamentally it is necessary to find out what it does beyond gives bonuses to two other electives, and speculation on what it gives based upon a variety of factors. Still time to speculate!~

1) The fact that Divination, and Arithmancy skills that are given bonuses from it involve the prediction of the future through different methods imply an understanding of in it would help with finding something in Hogwarts.

2) While this isn't mechanical any room in Hogwarts that is hidden away for adventurous students is highly likely to be labeled in Ancient Ruins as the changing nature of the castle makes Qi difficult to retain meaning without the place being sealed, and linguistical drift is a thing. So from a narrative pov should Rei run into rooms with labels on them she can at least make out the generalities of the trial ahead, and make some of her own fortune be working smarter not harder by remembering the muggle common sense of reading labels.

3) Making things like pill furnaces, cauldrons, or other such things where being able to design near 100% behavior of the equipment is critical for final results. In canon we actually see the Pensieve Albus uses some type of runes, and I'd be surprised if there wasn't other such secrets in the castle that you need ancient ruins to work out how to operate without triggering whatever safety mechanisms that kick you out permanently.

4) We're basically in the best place to train the skills as there isn't any rat race over getting at least one monthly Sect point like the school year, and should we go with the intermediate trio of Transfiguration/Charms/Potions... there is a pretty straightforward* path toward the second year. Like sure there is a degree of variance depending on if we can grab Apprentice 1 Astronomy, the possibility of a dueling skill, and what we'll get from having places of power,

5) The reason Rei can train the elective skills is that the elders normally busy teaching them are free, and that won't be the case in the school year proper, but a Senior Brother/Sister seems like it should be work if she has at least a beginner skill. This presume she finishes a month, or two ahead of the July, and we want to get ahead of the third year elective fight over who earns points in those classes.

6) Building off 5) while I've already mentioned the dc reduction uh the reason for that being important is simply put we've got an unmitigated 10% chance of a boon/bane, which is an issue when you're doing 6 social actions per the two summer months with the current bane being the result of a 9. So if we spent sect points, and they offer the option of grinding divination I'd pretty seriously consider grabbing it with the dc being 2-3 lower, which is pretty massive when should we go charms.

7) Being a second year Ravenclaw with knowledge in Ancient Runes means those who either don't have Sect points to pay someone with more experience, or are trying to be frugal will come to Rei for advice. This plays well with her having connection in all four of the houses as it means they don't even need to know Rei personally, and works with the stereotypes of the houses.

There are other things I might say, but this is enough speculation to throw out for now.

*I can give a general outline of this from my pov after this vote closes if anyone is interested.

This should give us max socials right? And the reason I picked this over the leading plan is due to stuff that has already been mentioned, but also because of wanting to give us an in-world reason to want to max socials. And I figured that maths and runes should be dense enough to give our poor witchling artist the desire to go Social.

[X] [Plan] Max Social and Ancient Magic v2
-[X][Training] Meridians
-[X][Training] Ancient Runes 2x
--[X] 2 tokens
-[X][Meridians] Adjust
--[X] 1. The Rainbow Brush
--[X] 2. Whip Shear Technique

edit: plan got adjusted due to suggestion.

[X][Social] You receive a letter inviting you to "Trade pointers" with "Young Mistress" Daphne Greengrass. Also in the envelope is a single-use transport talisman you're starting to become quite familiar with.

[X][Social] The address you got from Harry really isn't that far from you. If you wanted, you could incorporate a dozen or so miles into your morning run with little issue and swing by.

[X][Social] You've decided to set apart a day to be the model daughter. Starting with breakfast a-la-Qi, followed by a trip to the art exhibition at the local gallery, a picnic lunch, then a free afternoon to do whatever he'd like. In short, spend time with dad.

[X][Social] Hermione has invited you and Dad to meet her own parents, to tell the adults comforting stories about your time at Hogwarts and set their minds at ease.

[X][Social] The central hub of immortal activity in London is Diagon Alley. Now that you're much more knowledgeable about the world of Qi, you'd like a second look at the place. Perhaps put a number to your actual wealth and do some window shopping.

[X][Familiar] Azure Floatvine

[X] [Social] You visit Kew Gardens with your dad. Your mum loved the Japanese garden there, and your dad likes to visit regularly. Additionally you suspect that there may be herbology research taking place there under the noses of the muggles. Your love of Sherlock Holmes stories compels you to investigate this further.

Florilegium is the technique of sending messages through the use of flowers and feels like the sort of joke name a Ravenclaw would name a plant familiar.

[X][Familiar] Azure Floatvine

While all the options were cute, the vine and the moss were the most attractive to me, and the moss already has a lot of votes so I'll vote for the vine. Either way I expect to be happy with what we get.

[X][Social] Although the streets of London aren't exactly Hogwarts, there's still adventure to be had. Bring your new familiar on a tour of the suburbia, who knows what you might find - perhaps there's a fragment of the magical right in your backyard.

Yes I know the Floatvine isn't the best choice mechanically, but I don't care, I just like it. As for the plans, I'll let people with the time read through all the math and figure out what's best (though I would say that I'm thoroughly in the find out what everything does camp).

Let me take the time to gush over the quest some more.

This is a general observation only reaffirmed in this last update, but I love the way our choices as questers are justified in-universe, made perfectly in character for Rei herself by the weaving of our past decisions with her naturally emerged narrative traits. It gives the story a sense of cohesion and thoughtfulness/deliberation that most quests seem to lack.

I already mentioned it in passing, but the scene in the forest made me laugh out loud multiple times, and I found all the creatures in the clearing positively charming in their own way. The scrambling industriousness of the mushrooms, the circumspect curiosity of the moss, and the critical satisfaction of the vine all succeeded in endearing each would-be familiar to me. The descriptions in the options themselves were very nice, too.

I enjoyed the scene with the Ravenclaw study group, and I'm glad that our chit necklace re-made an appearance, as a helping tool loaned to Padma this time. I also liked the role we seem to have slotted in among our peers, but I loved the conversation with Tony. Beside the pieces of information on ascension, immortality, graduation and expulsion, I think we should learn from and internalize his very healthy outlook on limitations and failure. "And that's okay," is just about the best attitude anyone could ever have, under most circumstances.

Knowing Harry's home situation cleared up a bit of the air of mystery surrounding him, but the main benefit for me was the setting up of the possibility of a summer meetup and/or a discussion on the mortal world and its downsides.

I liked reading about the exams and our confidence/skill in passing them, and I was very happy, of course, when our House Cup win was revealed. I think I expected more of a celebration, though, or more of it to be shown, at least.

As for some final stray points of interest, Quirrel was absent (so likely dealt with), Rei only saw carriages and not the thestrals pulling them (assuming that's the same as in canon), and we got the new set of goals for next year (which look doable).

Thanks for the update, @Karf !

[X] [Plan] Max Social and Ancient Magic
-[X][Training] Arithmancy
--[X] 1 tokens
-[X][Training] Ancient Runes 2x
-[X][Meridians] Adjust

With your plan if you want to max social and get the electives, it may be wiser to drop Arithmancy and replace it with a meridian opening. Then use two points on the Ancient Runes action, this then enables you to take Arithmancy x2 and Divination x2 next turn with tokens and are more likely to level them with the DC reduction.

This would give you potentially 5 social actions this, and 4 next turn. This means that even if we fail both rolls and get the -3 social actions both turns we'd still be able to get what I consider are the necessary actions of Dad (haven't seen him for nearly a year, and it hopefully reconnects her to her past and to the non magical world), Daphne (connects with her mothers magical side of the family and their different experiences), and Diagon Alley (general exploration of the outside Hogwarts world, as wellbas seeing what if anything we got as a magical inheritance from Mum).

You should know that it was a different plan you were voting for, Sara, as it had only 1 CoMC action instead of 2. It was a mistake on my part (I had forgotten to type the x2 next to it), so I posted the correct plan and called it the same but this time within [] to fit the tally. I'm saying this just in case you missed the difference and you actually do not want to vote for this new version.

I forgot to vote O.O, and now we have a pocket bog to look forward to rather than a vine dragon QQ

On that note, I've basically just been assuming; but will our familiar have pokemon style evolutions depending on the elements or Laws they are most commonly exposed to, or find an affinity for while living with us?
I think they'd be pretty awesome, maybe tagged on as a secondary break-through system.
