Hogwarts Sect of Witchcraft and Wizardry

im personally confused on how a boon would help us win the cup, Since all the previous boons had affects that affected the next turns training and not the turn that we used the points on. So unless im mixing up dates and next turn isnt the last month before summer and its the turn after that then I understand the logic. (A visit homes Point use to get the boiling fish soup gets used in Of potions and potion-master's students I, and not in a visit home when the points where spent). So From My understanding, this upcoming turn we use the points, We get to pick the boon from those points and the turn after we use the Boons.

We asked the QM and, in post #1134, he has confirmed that we can ask for a boon that we spend sect points for now and gives its benefits in time for next month's (June) award ceremony. So the points gained through an 8 or 5 point-boon would count towards the progress which dictates how many sect points we win.

Also, a boon like that had already happened before ("The match I" update).

[X][Plan] Plan The Most Electives

It might not be effiecient, But I like the narative of breaking through before we leave for summer.

[X][SVP] Searing Blade Technique

[X][Social] Rather than facing exams at the end of the schoolyear, the fourth year disciples compete against each other in a year-long tourney. The finals are a public spectacle, and you have no intention of missing out on the show.
[X][Social] Contrary to the rumors, Harry Potter is nothing more than a polite twelve year old boy. You sincerely doubt that he's taken Gryffindor's loss of the quidditch cup to heart, but you'd still best make sure that that is the case.
[X][Social] The Ravenclaw first year study club is becoming more active as the year draws to a close. Although you might not say so out loud, you know you're quite highly advanced in your chosen fields, and helping your peers cram in some last minute study seems like the right thing to do.

In that case I'll also vote,
[X][Plan] 8 Points

So Either she'll breakthrough or Go all in on the potential boon.

If we can use points to directly get more points, the system will very quickly break down @Karf.
Total points earned towards the Cup =/= total spendable points earned
The main reason the 5/8 spending plans are viable is that they attempt to deny Slytherin some of the available prizes whilst gaining more points towards the cup than we spent.

If we spend 5 points and earn 3, then we've on net lost two spending points, but as unspent points count double towards the cup, we'll have earned 6 points towards the Cup. It's not a sustainable practice, the only reason it works is because this is the last turn before the Cup is awarded.

I was super worried because I'm still in d100 land. Then I saw the 1 and got a little worried, then I looked at the next block and saw the double 22s!

Edit: even without crit mechanics the first two blocks have 9-10 successes. Fingers crossed on progress.

Edit2: @zinay that absurdly awesome. I'm reacting with joy.

We are gonna level up Astronomy when we get back tho. That threshold of 15 for spiritual cultivation is gonna be even more annoying going forward.

Even better odds of getting another Charms milestone (Beginner 2), too, then. What about the Beginner 1 milestone for CoMC, 221 points away?
229. Ironically the odds of the charms milesone is actually identical. we esentially have a 100% chance of it occurring if the first breakthrough succeeds. The second CoMC milestone has an 87% chance.

Wait, how are you calculating these odds? Because I'm getting way worse results, myself. If you're counting the first pool's successes as overflow, I believe that's wrong. Overflow starts from the attempt after the breakthrough success.

We were rolling against DC13, so that 4 should be 3, on the third action.

Edit - I double checked CoMC and we're at 129/150 right now, which means we're 221 points away from Beginner 1, not 229.

Appreciation post time!

Once again, the training scenes didn't disappoint. The experiments with Diffindo were nice, but I found the process of charm-crafting to be especially fascinating: we studied the towel from as many points of view as possible and then described it in runic language, filling in the literal blanks on the cloth with runes meant to impart it the unnatural effects of the enchantment. So, with every charm, we're basically rewriting reality! The concept appeals to me on many levels, and I love how well it fits with the creative and artistic nature of our character.

The Quidditch match was also incredibly fun to read, starting from the focused atmosphere of the team's preparation before the start, which continued for us throughout the game, as we seemed to enter a flow-state of sorts (finally a 90+ on our social roll!). The play-by-play was intense and nail-biting, and I enjoyed the fun ways every technique was used, not only our own, but everyone else's, too, as well as the way our plan was implemented. The climax of the final series of events was thrilling and I actually cheered in real life when we saved the goal (and the win) just before the snitch was caught.

I also really liked the fact that, on top of everything else, we got a trait vote out of our successful season, and every option was unique, fitting and tempting. So, thanks for that, @Karf , and for writing this great update in general!

I wonder if picking the sniper technique will give us the opportunity to branch out into farsight later. It might synergize well with our interest in Divination.

The developmental paths of techniques has been more straight-forward than that so far, but it's not like we have a big enough sample size to draw definitive conclusions, so who knows? Considering the 5 meridians limit, future options might end up being more out there, so to speak, by necessity and/or design.

And even beyond that, we have only just dipped our toes in Transfiguration. Let's not forget that these Laws we're starting to explore are part of Arts, and there's a hint of even larger categories above them.

Add to that inter-disciplinary synergies and sky's the limit.

Bloody hell, those are some good rolls.

If we get CoMC to Beginner 2 this summer, then there's a chance we could go straight from 0 to the 1500 milestone for Astronomy in September if we put all 5 actions into it. Getting Charms up another level would help as well.

Now that we're out of the mad rush of voting I want to point out something I noticed when re-reading the update before last.
There is one other thing you notice about your technique: with your knowledge of the five primal aspects of Qi, you take an afternoon to understand which of them form the Humble Light Bringer Law. Unsurprisingly, fire is the basis for the the first technique, and although your expansion of the spell is more an inversion than an evolution, it still retains the fiery nature. There is a subtle difference from the first aspect, but understanding that remains beyond your capabilities for now. Given that you've made perfectly adequate use of the technique so far with no knowledge at all about its aspects, you figure there's little need to trouble yourself with the minutiae.
The Nox technique utilises Fire Qi which is somehow inverted but still maintains the fundamental essence of Fire. My guess, drawing from the absurd amount of Xianxia I've wasted my life reading, is that this is Yin aspected Fire Qi. Which would make the Humble Lightbringer either Yang Fire/Yin Fire or Fire/Yin Fire so far, depending a bit on how the metaphysics of the setting operates.

And on charms - the list of objects I've come up with doesn't have to be exhaustive. If anyone thinks they have a good idea for a charm Rei should craft, feel free to bring it to my attention.
Shoes that can stick to surfaces. Could be useful in Quidditch, to reach hard to get places, etc. Gloves with a similar effect would probably be more niche, but cool nonetheless.

A clock that tells the place. I don't have a specific idea of what this would do (a mapping feature, a magical compass, a gps, a labeling/caption system, a combination of these, etc.). I just like the concept.

A music box that reacts to your Qi and plays accordingly. I loved when we did yoga which turned into a dance of sorts, and I enjoyed our time in the Frog Choir, too. This would fit both.

Do examples like these work, @Karf ? Let me know if you have guidelines and/or restrictions to better steer these suggestions. And what do you all think, guys? Does anyone have ideas for possible charms?
