You were quite sure that Eric was angry at you as you continued to walk, not saying a word to you as you both continued down the sidewalk of Berlin. Taking in the fresh city air, you could still see the devastation of the Allied strategic bombing campaign. Even with the streets cleaned up and cars, those that could afford the American imports or those that carpooled with the newest model of Volkswagon, with ten people struggling to stay in. Even with the riots blocking the roads.

It would still take time, but life was returning to the city.

"Is it really that hard to step away from revenge?" You asked. "I've seen what it can do to a person. How it destroys them from the inside out, and leaves nothing but a rotten, broken husk behind?"

"You have not seen what I have seen Heinrich. The pain you have suffered was not like mine, where every day could have been my last." Eric stated. "This isn't revenge, only justice."

"Yes, and how many times has justice been used as a catalyst for cruelty and misuse?" You asked.

Eric growled. "Be very careful with your next words Henrich." He threatened. "You were dumped into a ravine after being shot in the head and were able to escape. You didn't have to liberate yourself."

You found yourself shaking your head in acknowledgment. "I know. That does not mean we should look for justifications for our more base and evil urges. We must prove we are better."

"And if that means allowing evil to walk away? To hurt others? Then what?" He questioned.

"We must be ready to fight back." You replied. "Do not take my words as pacifism, or hopeful thinking. But you can't fight evil with evil, for only evil will be created."

"Than what do we fight them with?" Eric asked. "Evil proved it could only be stopped with violence."

You frowned. "I don't know."

Eric did not stop with his statement. "Don't lecture me about how to stop evil, without any idea how to stop it."

"What about being a symbol?" You stated. "Symbols are something that people latch onto. That inspires people to be better."

"I seem to remember one symbol in my life more than others." Eric shot back. "A Star of David, and a Swastika. Do not speak to me of symbols and their power Henrich. You want to change my mind on things that have already been made up. You refuse to direct my energies into stopping the evil that still plagues this world."

You stopped in front of a coffee shop, a cafe still under repairs but still keeping up in business on a good spring day. There were people there, though only two, a boy and a girl.

Both were chatting in English, and what few words you could pick up was just simple plans about what they were going to do in a few hours. The Opera was a word you picked up, and another was the cinema.

"Yet I will still try, because there is nothing good that one can gain from revenge." You stated.

You both sat, awkwardly being stared at by the two tourists. Both gazed at you, than at Eric, before looking back to each other, whispering something you could not hear or understand.

A moment later, the boy placed two fingers on his head, and you felt… strange. Like someone was touching your mind. Feeling your thoughts and desires.
