Well, a new goal! Get rid of the Head.

HA! That's not happening.

Anyway, votes:

So, we've got to get 4 Jobs done a month, there are 4 Weeks in a month. That means we've gotta take at least 1 Job per Week. Since every Job cost 2 AP, that means we've actually got 4 AP to do other stuff with.

[X] Plan Starting (Relatively) Small
-[X] Turtling
-[X] Neighbor(s) from Hell (Canard): Mister Toko has cottoned onto the fact that one of his neighbors – or neighbors – might be trying to kill him. Cause? Noise complaints. All of which goes ignored by the Landlord since Toko paid extra for his rent and does so always on time. Something that his neighbors do not always do. It appears that Toko is something of a musician – and people are… sensitive of musicians after the Pianist Incident. One day, Toko caught one of his neighbors stalking him to his work. It might be his paranoia, but regardless, he's willing to hire a Fixer in case he's right. Pay: 350,000 Ahn – After Cut.
-[X] Mori.
Mori's weird. Not weird like Mao, and not weird in a way that you don't get. Still, you catch him tinkering in the Office with his arm, and you can't help but watch.
-[X] Burke. Of all the three, Burke is the least you know about, though that's not saying much. He likes reading, as it happens, when you walk into the Office with him, and the Boss.
-[X] Boss. Stepping into the Office, you realize that everyone is out – and the only one here is the Boss. Well. Shit.
-[X] Sun Dance – One day, you stumble in to find Sun fidgeting inside the Office alone with the Boss. Her face perks up when she sees you, and for a second, you thought she's here for a job. Then she asks if you're free, and – she's testing recipes, and she needs a taste tester. Well. Mao did say you gotta build rapport with your client, and – who are you to refuse free food?

Explanations:

1. Turtling because, while we want to save up, we don't want to debuff ourselves too much. In fact, based on each of the different diets it would be in our best interest to start eating well when we're going on a dangerous mission, as that gives us bonuses. So, for now, let's just go with the ALMOST starving ourself idea.

2. It was a toss up between Neighbors and Dreaming for me. Both seem interesting and pay relatively well, even though Neighbors is only 100,000 Ahn more than our first job with Sun. But, I ultimately went with it cause it's a good midpoint between "Well Paying" and "Something we can do alone without dying....probably".

3. The Social Options are simple. Burke, Mori, and Boss are the only three people in the Office that we know little to nothing about. While I don't think we should get attached, knowing who we'll be working with is essential for having a good work environment...especially if any of them end up with an Invite. It'll tell us when the entire Office is about to get deaded. And Sun is....Sun is just there cause I had a point left over.

Edit: 4. Calculated Ahn amount after this Week: 253,150 - 5,000 + 350,000 = 598,150 Ahn. We'll need 300,000 more to pay Landlord Lin, and we'll have enough to pay the Head. Of course, the issue is having to pay them BOTH.

Basically, if we want to keep our current abode AND keep the Head off our backs, we need to make 1,300,000 Ahn per month.

And, after doing the math, even all the Canard Jobs together would only net us 600,000 Ahn. This means that, unless the jobs change, we need to do at least 1 Urban Myth job to be able to keep our Apartment and pay off the head.

I think our plan to should be as such:

1. Do at least 2 Canard Jobs the first two weeks. I'd suggest Neighbors and the Dog Quest. That's 525,000 Ahn. More than enough to pay the Head.
2a. Do at least 1 Urban Myth Jobs sometime in the last two weeks. If we just want to make ends meet, then we can take Dreaming (1,325,000) which will leave us with just enough to pay both Lin and the Head. Or, if we want to have something left over, we can take the Tourism Job (1,575,000), which will leave us with 275,000 at the end of the month. Then we can take a Canard Job to have a bit left over for ourselves.
2b. Alternatively, we can do 2 Urban Myth jobs. I wouldn't suggest it unless things start coming down to the wire, but if we want to be eating comfortably for a bit, then doing both Urban Myths is essential. In fact, if we do all the Jobs that pay the best, we'll have 2,375,000 Ahn by the end of the Month (350,000 + 175,000 + 800,000 + 1,050,000). Even after we pay the Head and Lin, we'll still have 1,075,000 Ahn left.

Mind you, all this is only if nothing happens and we finish these jobs by ourselves without having to split it.

[X] Someone to Hang Out With?
-[X] Kai.
You catch Kai training(?) on the rooftop, and you can't help but watch. She doesn't seem to mind.
-[X] Mori. Mori's weird. Not weird like Mao, and not weird in a way that you don't get. Still, you catch him tinkering in the Office with his arm, and you can't help but watch.

A fairly simple setup here: get a hearty meal under our belts, buff us up to go straight for the big payoff jobs. Bond a bit with Kai as we'll be having each others backs here, and then just Mori as our free pick with the last AP.

Goal:
- Pay Rent: Collect Eight-Hundred-Thousand Ahn for your Monthly Pay Rent. Failure leads to either homelessness, or Favors to Landlord Lin.
- Pay Your Tax or Else – Pay 500,000 Ahn monthly. Failure to pay will induce penalty from The Head. Failure to pay three times, and the Head will visit you. This Goal will last as long as the Head exist
Okay assuming a month is equal to 4 weeks then these goals will require us to make about 325k a week to pay this off without factoring food costs which I will get into later. Of course with the variability of jobs we could easily earn more or less than that amount a week and still be fine since we can always make it up next week. But this does mean we would want to take Neighbor level jobs every week at least even before factoring food.

You have 253,150 Ahn – that's a lot of money, but apparently not "a lot" enough. And here you thought you could live in relative luxury. Fucking shit.

Plan Meal for the Week (Choose 1):

[] Extreme (0 Ahn): It's… well. It's not a living. Barely a living – but you just need something to fill your stomach. Water's free. You'll have to dumpster dive, and maybe see if there's some wild edible grass you could cook. Or mug some nearby Rats. That works too, though you don't expect much from them either. [Receive Status: Starving – -5 to Max Health, and Sanity Point for the Week. You Take 1.5 More Damage from Attacks. Receive Temporary -1 to one of your Favored Skills (1d3).]

[] Turtling (5000 Ahn): Your usual affair. Rice porridge seasoned with salt – and whatever else you can find on discount, and maybe scavenge out in the dump of some fancy neighborhood. It's not great, but you can live with it. [Receive Status: Hungry – You Take 0.5 More Damage from others]

[] Healthy, and Fulfilling (35,000 Ahn): Rice porridge, but this time with proper seasonings, and meats, and vegetables. Maybe not even porridge – maybe you can eat rice as is with a side-dish, without turning it into sludge. Wouldn't that be nice? [Receive Status: Ready – You Deal 0.5 More Damage to others]

[] Luxurious, and Nutritious (75,000 Ahn): You can… you can treat yourself a little, right? For once in your lifetime, and – fuck. You don't know. Eat whenever you're hungry. HamHamPangPang sandwiches, and that rice porridge Mao and Mori treated you to. Shit, maybe even pork belly? God. Please. [Receive Status: Energetic – +5 Max Health, and Sanity Points. Receive temporary +1 to one of your Favored Skills (1d3 Dice Roll).

Adding food into the equation complicates things a little. If we go luxurious (its sad that the City equivalent of McDonalds is a luxury) than we'll need to aim at 400k per week which means doing either multiple jobs or an Urban Myth every week. Not something I recommend especially for our first month of doing stuff. Even healthy eating is a bit much since it would mean that combined with our goals that we would just barely have to eat into our savings if we took Neighbor level jobs each week. It's only a thousand deficit and we have 253k in our wallet but certainly not a good outlook.

An important thing to remember is that we don't just want to survive but also a chance to thrive so even if we take Dreaming with Kal and we decide on a 50/50 split (i.e. 400k payday) I don't think we should eat a luxurious meal since that's all the money from our job put into weekly expenses with none saved to improve ourselves. Sure we have XP so even in that scenario we would still grow a little (and I imagine Urban Myths pay a lot more XP than Canard) but I feel it's a very risking playstyle with limited rewards.

Now for jobs which I will give more attention to than just payment.

[] Rats Be Gone (Canard): In the Backstreets, people have their places. Syndicates normally dwell there, and Fixers dwell here. Before you got to be a Fixer, people would give you the stink eye when you step into a neighborhood that you obviously do not belong – and sometimes they would get violent. You can't even call them Syndicates. Just thieves, killers, and smugglers without any affiliation. Brian is the owner of a warehouse in the lower-grade corner of the Backstreets – and it appears that the Rats have gone up from the bridge they normally stay under, to squatting Brian's building. Brian wants you to "bodyguard" his warehouse. In terms of what Scarecrow does, the job is stretching the term "bodyguarding" or "protection", but it's one of those open job requests – and apparently kicking the shit out of Rats are something of a rite of passage. Who knew? Pay: 75,000 Ahn – After Cut.
The tutorial mission where we fight things Lily could had probably beaten before becoming a Fixer and getting her new equipment. It's pay is so shit I don't think we should bother since the story doesn't sound that interesting either. Maybe if we're really not confident we can take this but we'll need to make up for the loss of income of it sometime later this month.

[] It's a Doggy Dog World (Canard): People own pets. Somehow, that fact surprises you. There's a lot of people in the Backstreets, you suppose. Regardless, there's a dog – but the owner has died. However, the owner's family has decided to take the dog in before the owner's landlord kicks it out to the streets. Problem? The family lives in the other side of the Backstreets – five hours walk, to be exact. Ten hours, going back, and forth. But only six, from where you are, to picking up the dog, and then to the family. It checks out. Also, it can be dangerous, so there's that. Pay: 175,000 Ahn – After Cut.
The next job still doesn't really pay out that much but its certainly better than rats. Interesting story too. Kind of want to pick this just because it's a low level mission to dip our toes into and I think the journey of Lily and a dog across the City would be really fun to read. Probably not the greatest idea since even if we take Neighbor tier jobs for the rest of the month we'll be forced to cough up 75k from our wallet to pay our goals even if we spend nothing on food.

Which still isn't a complete deal breaker to me since I want to at least attempt one Dreaming tier Urban Nightmare with Kai this month which will more than make up for this poor payout assuming we don't eat luxurious. Might just be me trying to justify this to myself since like I said I really like the idea of the story of this one even if from a money standpoint the next option is better.

Definitely just me trying to justify this to myself since the pay is so low that even if we do Dream tier jobs the rest of the month with 50/50 split and healthy eating we'll still be in the red. And I don't think 3 Urban Myth jobs in our first month is really safe to begin with much less with the possibility that we might need to turtle eat during some of those jobs.

[] Neighbor(s) from Hell (Canard): Mister Toko has cottoned onto the fact that one of his neighbors – or neighbors – might be trying to kill him.
This is the first option that makes ends meet just by itself and it's still Canard to boot. Sadly just a smidge too low a payout for us to do this and eat healthy while making a profit but tis decent enough. Not too interested in the story honestly since dude maybe getting attacked by his neighbors is pretty boring (not that we want an exciting mission since I've learned how scary this city can be with 'excitement'). Part of the reason why I'm more interested in Dog since even if this pays better it just doesn't appeal to me as much.

[] Dreaming of You (Urban Myth): Miss Ann has been having nightmares since… well, since a few months ago. That's nothing new, of course, and she did ignore it at first. However, it has gotten worse ever since to the point that she couldn't do her work – a teacher, of all things! – properly. Recently, she has woken up with cuts, and bruises on her body, and she has requested the Scarecrows to guard her from… whatever's causing this. Perhaps even from herself. Pay: 800,000 Ahn – After Cut, Before Split.
-[] Go with Kai? (Recommended)
The first Urban Myth and man that's a huge pay increase. Enough to pay Lin off in a week if we could solo this (we should not attempt to solo this). Kind of curious how hard this would be difficulty wise especially with Kai along with us. Also interested in how this job would play out since protecting someone from themselves. Also has the possibility for fun interactions with Lily and a teacher. While it would be tempting to eat luxurious for this since 50% of 800k would be 400k just enough to keep our wallet free while also enjoying the food buffs I'm not sure I would recommend it. Since first we're not sure if Kai will give us a 50/50 split cause even a 55/45 split not in our favor would cause us to need to use our wallet a little along with the issues I mentioned in the food section.

All in all I would be interested in doing this another week this month after we have more experience under our belt for both XP and money though the story being intriguing doesn't hurt.

[] Cursed Tourism (Urban Myth): Hailey is a Nest Dweller who, for some godforsaken reason, came down here into the Backstreets to "sightsee". Everything went smoothly until he accidentally gathered the ire of a minor Syndicate called "The Burning Men" – strong enough to be above the Rats, but not large enough to be considered dangerous. Hailey has contacted the Scarecrows to escort him back up to the Nest Barrier. Pay: 1,050,000 Ahn – After Cut, Before Split.
-[] Go with Kai? (Recommended)
The final job on the list and not something I think we should do this week and maybe not even this month. Though if we are doing it I don't think there's any reason to not eat to our heart's content cause we'll probably need those food buffs and the pay will more than cover that. The story is a little interesting with the client probably someone Lily can play off of well and gives us our first look at organized opposition in a minor syndicate.

No real feelings about the Socials or other actions besides I would like to talk to Kai this week to get a feel what she would be like on a job and how much of the cut she would want. Since she could be in just as bad money straits as us or she could be fine financially and willing to only get 40% of the pay.

So I'm just going to copy Link's plan but add Kai instead of something else

Took out hanging with Mori for Kai since I want to get a feel of boss and Burke while I feel we got a decent handle on Mori. Interested in how the Sun option will interact with our food issues for this week and the next since I could see it being a interesting avenue to explore.

Also maybe its just me and having started on watching Ruina stuff but the idea of being a taste tester honestly worries me a little cause Fuck this City and it's seemingly infinite amount of cannibals and monsters can't trust a nice women asking you to eat sweet deserts and not worry that she's feeding you something bad.

Another plan because I just really want to do the dog mission but note this is probably a bad plan since even with taking a risk and doing two missions in the same week we'll still be so tight on money that we'll basically have the rest of the weeks jobs planed. Cause we'll just barely be able to make rent and taxes if we do two Neighbor level jobs while turtleing and then do Dream with a 50/50 split while eating healthy.

As in we'll have a net profit of 0 over the month if we do this path. We could save some money by starving, not eating healthy for our first Urban Myth or taking more than one Urban Myth missions but I feel that's all a bit risky so I don't recommend it.

Here's a plan for those who want to dive head first into Urban Myth for that sweet sweet XP. Probably won't make so much money cause of the food its eating but I don't want to do a week 1 Urban Myth without having the good food buff cause even with the extra health and skill increase I feel this is a risky plan. But won that could pay off pretty well in my opinion since if we beat it than we might level up enough that we can safely handle a similar paying mission with merely healthy food allowing us to basically grow at rapid speed.

[X] Plan Starting (Relatively) Small

Honestly just against the Luxurious Food + 2 jobs combo. One thing of worth I want to emphasize here: XP. We get it after our adventures, and we grow in power.
No point killing ourselves before we get to a decent level. Even if we end up at +0 Ahn after paying our debts... well' at that time we'll be at +n levels in skills and stats.

For example, that Endurance boost I talked about? Not yet here, as we are at -3 damage (ignore info page- armor still listed as low quality). Need one more point, as Endurance increments natural armor every 2 levels.
Still, 3 Endurance should be helpful for poisons... so Sun, if this cooking is anime-trope bad... or City throws a nasty surprise at us. And second option is certain. It's the City after all.

As for the mission- it smells of a plot hook. Sure, he's (probably) not associated with other musical freaks. Still. The Pianist touched many hearts with his performance, to varying extents.

Question, can we assume that some of the Candard missions could actually be Urban Myth? Because this is the City and things will probably go wrong.

Question, can we assume that some of the Candard missions could actually be Urban Myth? Because this is the City and things will probably go wrong.

Depednds. THe untaken Urban Myth would either stay to next week, or get taken by your Seniors. The Canards that you didn't take will probably be taken by Kai, or just shuffled into other Offices. Of course, that doesn't mean things won't go wrong -- but it's not like they matter to you since you don't take them. They're other people's business, so to speak. (Example: Brian getting his warehouse infested by Rats won't go back to you. He's more likely to just hire other Fixers. Or if nobody delivers the dog, then the dog will just get kicked out to the streets, and well -- that's really none of your business).

Probably.

My current theory on that is that the food made using T-Corp's Singularity is actually human meat to some extent. Would explain why there are enough Cannibals in the City to fill an entire District.

Or maybe things are so bad Cannibalism is an acceptable means of survival.

Or maybe things are so bad Cannibalism is an acceptable means of survival.

Cannibalism's not really acceptable in the City. There are two kinds of people who practice those -- the filthy rich who thinks eating humans would somehow give them strength, or the so called 'gourmets' who believe human meat is the next best thing since toasts. Or both. Generally speaking, they're frowned upon. At the same time, it's one of those things that people of the City know exist, and acknowledge that they can't really do much about it.

So I am not convinced that turtling is worth it. Turtling makes us take .5 more damage. That means more healing which costs money. But the difference in the monthly budget is only 120,000. Looking at the jobs listed 120,000 isn't much. If we take Healthy, and Fulfilling each week this month though than we should probably take 5 jobs instead of the required 4.

So here is my plan.

[X] Plan Start Strong
- [X] Healthy, and Fulfilling (35,000 Ahn)
- [X] It's a Doggy Dog World (Canard)
- [X] Neighbor(s) from Hell (Canard)
- [X] Someone to Hang Out With?
-- [X] Kai. You catch Kai training(?)
-[X] Sun Dance

The goal of this plan is to knock out the two best paying canard jobs. This gets us a nice boost in cash which we can spend on healing items in order to start taking on urban myth jobs. This is a bit risky as damage will not heal as well, which is why I choose the Healthy and Fulfilling diet. Taking two jobs means we want to negate as much damage as we can and eating healthy feels like the cheapest way to do that.

Fundamentally I don't think the potential cost in extra healing from turtling is worth the 30,000 Ahn it saves us.

[X] Plan Starting (Relatively) Small with Kai
-[X] Someone to Hang Out With? x3
--[X] Kai.
You catch Kai training(?) on the rooftop, and you can't help but watch. She doesn't seem to mind.
--[X] Burke. Of all the three, Burke is the least you know about, though that's not saying much. He likes reading, as it happens, when you walk into the Office with him, and the Boss.
--[X] Boss.

I feel that if we were subjected to the whims of dice rolls then Neighbors from Hell would be a Red Flag mission, considering Roland is still going around on his killing spree and our client just happens to be a musician but Meh.

Being fair, if Sun's feeding you something bad -- well, you already ate her brownies, soooo. Y'know. :V

Hey @SoothingCoffee , I have a question about the additional damage from our diet. Is it multiplicative or flat? If we take 4 damage turtling will we take 4.5 damage, or 6 damage?

[X] Plan Pet the Dog
-[X] Turtling
-[X] Rats Be Gone (Canard): In the Backstreets, people have their places.
-[X] It's a Doggy Dog World (Canard):
People own pets.

[X] Plan Start Strong

Not super sure about Start Strong since two difficult Bernard missions might be too much but I'm voting with my heart and my heart says dog. I don't want the poor thing to end up on the street and probably within someone's stomache within the hour.

I am not super worried. It is a bit risky, but we are a tank build so leveraging that to jump start our cash situation in order to take on tougher jobs, and thus get more money, seems solid.
