Boot 1: Welcome To Hell
You do not remember what Dr. Halsey said. The drugs in your system made you too groggily, too weak to even move.
"You will be the Protector of Earth and all her colonies."
Those were the only words you heard. And you were comforted by them…
Light had only hummed
"UP BOOT!" A voice boomed in your ear, as the sounds of banging trash cans entered your ears. You calmly allowed your eyes to flutter open and you moved off of your bed. The memories were fuzzy, but you realized you were not in your home on Earth.
You were in a barracks of some sort, and you knew that there were other children in here with you. They were frightened and scared, confused and felt alone.
You were not. You were oddly comfortable with the area you found yourself in. The sound of confusion made your mind focused.
"BOOT! GET UPI!" A loud voice shouted, and one of the children was hit with some kind of weapon.
It was then you saw the electricity come from the stick. A stun baton.
So they were not afraid of hurting children? The thought made you both sick and fearful. These people would not treat you like the bright child you were… They were not coddling you, but forcing you to fight to survive.
Wait… Oh, that baton was coming to hit you.
Dodge!:1D100 => 82+50=132
The baton quietly sailed through the air as you ducked below it, using your short height to make the man miss, and make him strike the bed you were sleeping in. You stood in front of your bed like everyone else, feeling a small smile crack up on your face.
"Nice work on the dodge." Light quipped.
"Today we begin training and from this day onwards you will always wake up like this and get in position in front on your bed!! You have 5 minutes to be ready and if you're not you will not receive breakfast, now go quickly!" Another instructor shouted. "SHOWERS ARE AFT! GET CLEAN AND CHANGED INTO PT GEAR, THAN WAIT OUT FRONT OF THE BARRACKS! DOUBLE TIME!"
All the children in the barracks moved towards the showers and stripped. Quite a few children were uncomfortable, others were taking off their clothes while other people were around them. But the batons and the scary men with them were enough to make them get under the cold water and take a very quick, very cold shower.
It was invigorating feeling the cold water against your body, and you cleaned yourself as quick as you could, and found a fresh set of clothes on your bed.
The sweats and shirt said 'Giancarlo-131'
Outside of the Barracks, you counted 74 other children stepping out, in identical sweats and t-shirts. Many of them were frightened, many more… were determined… or at least were not showing their fear.
And the man in front of you's voice carried through the air, and the children, including yourself oddly enough, gravitated towards the man.
"I AM CHIEF PETTY OFFICER MENDEZ! I WILL BE YOUR SENIOR DRILL INSTRUCTOR! THE MEN BESIDES ME WILL BE MY ASSISTANTS IN YOUR FIELD TRAINING! YOU WILL FOLLOW THEIR ORDERS WHEN GIVEN AT ALL TIMES! YOU WILL ADDRESS US AS SIR OR MA'AM AT ALL TIMES! DO YOU UNDERSTAND!?" Mendez shouted.
Light finally spoke in your mind in a volume you could hear. "Well now, this is certainly something that I did not expect."
"No kidding." You whispered, your voice nearly silent as you spoke.
"Yes, sir." There was a weak chorus of voices.
"I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Mendez shouted.
"YES, SIR!" Seventy-five voices joined as one.
"LET'S MOVE WE'RE RUNNING!" The man said as he began running. In Column formation, the children moved after him.
Minutes passed though it felt like hours to everyone, including you. You were not strong, but you still moved better than most.
Children who puked were beaten by the instructors, those who stopped met stun batons to their guts or faces… Many more wept in confusion. The suddenness of the change was traumatizing them.
Mental State: 1D100 => 51
They were barely holding together…
You weren't coping well.
You stopped running and did squats. Then sit-ups, then push-ups and crunches and scissor kicks. You needed to breathe.
Soon you stopped with the conditioning. The yelling was deafening.
Mendez's eyes went to all the children. "THIS WAS A PATHETIC FIRST DAY! BUT YOU WILL GO TO THE CLASSROOM AT YOUR SIX TO START YOUR LESSONS UNLESS YOU WISH TO TAKE PART IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES!"
What do you do?:
(Choose 2)
[]Go To Class: You are tired, maybe you can get some rest in class. Maybe you might actually learn something.
[]Talk to Chief Petty Officer Mendez: There are some questions you wish to ask. Like why is he acting like an asshole to a bunch of children who are clearly frightened and are not coping with the situation well?
[]Request to Speak to the Commanding Officer: You want to talk to the commander in charge about the legality of this operation, and how to avoid problems. Because you can tell there will clearly be problems with this operation. If not from you, then from the dozens of scared children there.
[]Participate in Extracurricular Activities: What the hell, you might have some fun with this.
If you go to Class What do you do?:
[]Listen: Absorb the lesson being taught to you, it could be important.
[]Rest: Your body is not feeling very well. You need to relax a little.
[]Make a Friend: You are going to try to socialize with someone... As terrifying as it sounds.
If you participate in E.A what do you take part in:
[]First Aid: Light wanted you to learn first aid… something about… needing to be calm.
[]Robotics: "Do not rely on this machine to win your battles."
[]Hand to Hand: "So someone has the balls to do hand to hand the First day...I'm impressed." and for a brief moment, it was the nicest thing the SDI has said to you all day which was not saying a lot because he then threw you down to the ground in a chokehold.
[]Vehicles: "Technically You are not supposed to learn how to drive until you are ten...but we've heard about your… intelligence."
[]Piloting: "Good thing we have flight sims. Because there is no way we are letting you pilot a real aircraft."
[]Invent Something: You are going to go insane if you do not do something with your hands. Might as well do something productive.
AN: Enjoy.
