[ ] Jotunheim - An bleakly pristine world of nearly unbroken wilderness, the soaring crags and impossible expanses of Jotunheim conjure an impression of stupefying scale. Deserts the size of continents, mountains that clutch the moon, marshes deeper than an oceanic rift! Around it all is the sea, fearsome and roiling, each wave a tsunami-wall, glacier-floes crackling and grinding like the teeth of some unquiet giant slumbering beneath the shore. Such things are more reality than analogy, here in the Giant's Land.

Guys, the Temple is Jotunheim! The blurb even says it's not an analogy!

[X] Relaxing at the Hot Springs
[X] Studying the Blade
[X] Vertex

The hot springs is a critical component to my vote; I specifically asked for a Hot Springs episode and Rihaku gave it to us immediately. I will fight all of you with mind-knives to get this to go through.

Studying the blade works out since we'll be able to farm the footsoldiers of the Rotbeast without fighting it ourselves; this will let us get some picks without the massive risks. We are a vacationing mercenary offering irreplacable help breaking up the eternal siege pro bono, so they can't actually complain if we say "Nah, I don't want to expose myself to the risk of the Rotbeast itself."

And as for the magic system, I am simply going to post the following:
  • Vertex - noun - A vertex is a point where two or more curves, lines, or edges meet.
  • Diagram - noun - A simplified drawing showing the appearance, structure, or workings of something; a schematic representation.
  • The diagrams utilized in virtually all media to represent magic are geographic symbols, and thus incorporate vertices significantly
    • (see Doctor Strange's hands whenever casting spells, if you need a visual representation)

Short omake
Bait 534 words (put them towards Styding the Blade)
The fishing competition was fierce and more destructive than he could ever imagined. At the end there were three contestants left, each on the side of a triangular lake full of elusive fish.

He have entered the fishing competition to earn some money and to satisfy his need for fish but now his pride was hurt. He would not allow the bastard in the golden armor to win. He could also feel the gazes of Letrizia and Gisena several hundred meters behind him with many onlookers. Verschlengorge was behind them holding a huge banner with his face on it. He had to admit Gisena was quick and gifted with the needle. Shame it was only she wanted to tease him.

On the opposite side of him a teenager in a golden armor was looking upon him with contempt.

"Mongrel, your fishing rod is simple. You do not deserve to call yourself a fisherman. Behold my golden fishing rod. Only it is allowed to win this competition"

The last competitor was a cloaked figure that had an invisible rod and was very gifted with it. But Hunger wanted to humiliate the boy in the armor.

"Mongrel, I will show you true magnificence, because I am the King of Fishermen. Behold the BAIT OF BABYLON"

A multitude of golden portals appeared behind him. Each holding a fishing rod of unimaginable opulence. Jade, silver, ruby, topaz – all possible and impossible combination of rare metals and gems were present. His simple rod made of a branch and a thread felt inadequate.

Hunger gritted his teeth. NO! He had awakened his Surgecraft and he had discovered he had the element of Bait. He needed its power now. He let his heart guide his mind. This is the passion of the fisherman.

"I am the bone of my rod

Hook is my body and bait is my blood

I have caught over a thousand fishes

Unknown to Death

Nor known to Life

Have withstood pain to create many baits

Yet, those baits will never hold anything

So as I pray,

Unlimited bait works"

The realm itself answered his call and changed the landscape to a world filled with hooks and fish. Hunger looked around and addressed

"My fishing rod is but a simple one, boy with the golden armor. It cannot compare to the beauties you have in your collection. But nobody said that a prettier rod will beat a simple one. The will of the hand behind it guides its action. So at this world of bait, do you have enough rods, King of Fishermen?"

The boy in the armor was furious and jumped towards Hunger, who in turn wasted no time and jump as well.

"You utter mongrel, I will defeat you"

Suddenly the third contestant reveled himself, or rather herself as without her cape, she appeared to be a young girl.

"Don't forget about me. Excalibait!"

The world went white when the three contestants collided.

Meanwhile in the crowd Gisena was eating popcorn and talking to Letrizia.

"I had no idea fishing can be this intense"

Letrizia was looking intently at the scene and muttering to herself

"I could have sworn that I have seen this scene before. Please Lady Gisena, pass the popcorn"

It looks like I'll have to eliminate Market Day. Vertex vs Surgecraft is closer than it looks, with a large amount of omake support for Surgecraft!

My first omake for this quest, possibly first for Rihaku's quests?
Naptime (1306 words)

It was a peaceful moment, after all the activities today. Tears on your cheeks long since dried, hunger quenched (as always, for a time), and everyone dancing to a jolly tune.

The radio sat there, on the desk, singing some song about raspberries and hearts. While you and Letrizia were vaguely shaking to the rhythm, Gisena was showing off her ballet-like moves. Show-off.

It continued for a while, with your moves growing increasingly wild, swinging your Four Bear plushie with you. You hit some girl with it, who started crying. That's when you had to stop, as Miss Pauling made you apologize.

The music stopped, but your ambition did not. Shaking your rattle, you mulled over an idea.

"Bet we can listen to mr. Odyssial if we get the radio during naptime." I whispered to Gisena.

Every kid knew Mr. Odyssial- his daily appearance on television was a highlight of the day for the entire orphanage. A person of this clout was surely present in radio as well. Also, after that time he started talking to you in your dreams, you're pretty sure you could find him anywhere.

"That's stupid! It's all the way up there! Besides, he'll probably be having a nap like we do!" Replied Gisena, throwing her arms out.

"What? No! Adults don't sleep! They just stare at a computer screen all night, like Mr Pauling is!" Was she born under a rock? Everyone knows that!

"Nu uh!"

"Du uh."

"Nu uh to infinity!"

"Du uh to infinity to..." Damn. You could barely add two plus three (it was six!). You hadn't yet gotten to infinity!

"Ha! Haha! I win!" She laughed while doing a victory dance. Another logical argument shut down by force of sheer denial. Lady of Nullity was not a mere title, it would seem.

Letrizia was ignoring both of you, trying to find out if you can eat the plastic strawberry cake. She failed to find out, as Miss Pauling ran to her and took it away before she could so much as nibble at it. Damn shame, you wanted to know that too.

"Wasn't the double portion at breakfast enough for you?" Asked Gisena, amused at endless gluttony of her friend.

"N-no! I-I was just... was just asked by Versch to take a bite! It was impolite to refuse!" She stammered, wildly gesturing at the robot doll in her hand. She pressed his button, and he hummed noncommittally. She just glared at him.

"And you didn't invite Hungry to your feast? How could you." Snarked Gisena.

Before either of you could reply, you heard a ringing on the hallway's door.

"Morning kids!" Said mr. Jacob, hanging his coat with one hand, waving with the other.

"Jacob!" Squealed Letrizia, running to him, asking to play.

"Ah, did you do your homework though?" He kneeled down to her level, ruffling her hair.

"Y-yes!" She stammered.

"Nu-uh! She didn't!" Shouted Gisena.

"Hey! Gisena, that's not fair!" Letrizia stomped over to Gisena, who was blowing a raspberry at her.

Using their moment of distraction, you sneaked behind him.

"Now now, we'll just see what you need to do, and the-" He couldn't finish his sentence, as you tackled him from behind. To his credit, this time he didn't fall down.

"Aaaaaaah!" Letrizia used that moment to jump on him as well, while Gisena just stood on the side, laughing.

Even that had to end, as soon, naptime would come.

The winner was [K] Shake That! and [K] Four Bear Babe - Patient Hunter
What will Hungry do during the naptime?

[] Valor of the Nap - There is only so much strength you can expend at once, no matter how powerful you may be. The Radio can wait, but your nap will not. While you will be giving up a fortuitous occasion, you will dream and think about exploiting any future plans. Also, you'll avoid falling asleep mid-heist.
* Gains a condition [Chilling in the Crib]- +10% to all actions for rest of the day.
* Removes your [Tired] condtion, making you good to go for rest of the day.
* +?
* Spends the entire evening.

[] Pick on Girls - Your power was not nearly close to being spent! Being contained to a small bed annoyed you to no end. Take out your frustrations on your two companions. While Gisena may like a challenge, Letrizia may not find it so fun. Neither will your caretakers.
* Gain valuable information on the Curse of the Brat
* +Gisena, -Letrizia, solidify your reputation as an annoying brat.
* Severely annoy your caretakers. They will keep an eye on you now.
* Gain +0.5 Cookies, fulfill your duty as a prepubescent boy.

[] Listen to the Waves- You are certain you'll be able to hear mr. Odyssial on the radio. Last time, you were certain he was talking to you specifically. Maybe this time, he'll actually explain some things. That is, if your are capable of getting the radio from the shelf, while not alerting adults in the kitchen...
* 30% chance of being detected.
* 60% chance of actually finding the right station at the right time.
* 50% chance of further annoying your caretakers, if you are found out.
* Tactics and omakes will improve the odds.
* +1 Cookie for being a mischievous little thief.

---

You have about 7.6 Cookies. You've received 2 picks from wrestling with Mister Jacob. Alas, he was simply no match for your immense strength (and Letrizia too, I guess).

[] Cozy Blanket - Restoration - Even memories of the past can be restored, given enough effort.
+Protection +Charisma. Asks Mister Jacob to repair your blanket, returning it to pristine condition. Will stop feeling inadequate with a damaged blanket.

[] Cozy Blanket - Lullaby - 2 Cookies - Melodious words of your progenitor take you to a softer realm.
+Protection +Wisdom. Increases effectiveness of all naps, further improving your stat gain. Makes it possible to nap nearly anywhere, as long as you have your blanket with you. Allows to remember the fragments of your mother's songs, discounting [Goodnight, My Sun] by 2 Arete.

Requires Cozy Blanket - Restoration

[] Four Bear Babe - Hug of the Bear - Massive, hairy arms, wrapping around you. Warmth and joy.
+Might +Charisma. Apply your wrestling lessons to your closest companion, the Four Bear! Develop a hug than won't be shaken away, no matter how hard they try! Become supremely adorable little cub!

[] Four Bear Babe - Father, a Mountain - 7 Cookies - When he stood up, you could barely look up. His face like a peak of a mountain, his face obscured by clouds of his white beard.
++Might ++Will. Remember your efforts to scale everything you encountered, no matter how tall. As long as an obstacle exist, you can at least theoretically climb on it. Note that does not make it safe nor easy. Discounts [My Little Cub] by 7 Arete

Requires Hug of the Bear

[] Rattle of Power - Exalted Noise - Radio is capable of bringing everyone together through music. But... perhaps just noise is enough?
Harness the power of sound to bind the minds of others. Or, in other words, be an obnoxious little attention seeker.

Gain [+0.5 for adults/+1 for children] Reputation (applied after all other effects) for purpose of drawing attention of others to you. This does not yield any further persuasive power (yet), but does allow you to say your piece.

[] Will of the Smallest King - 2 Cookies - Conjunctional [Cozy Blanket, Rattle of Power] - Take fate into your own hands, becoming the ruler of this kingdom. Gain unquestionable authority as the leader of this orphanage (limited to kids). Remember, though- your actual influence depends on your your Charisma, Will and Reputation.

Given the limited number of Defining Advancement slots we have, we should make sure to take good ones, even if they're not quite as good as Uttermost.. At the very least, it should be a 3 pick that costs Arete or a 4 pick. Anything else seems like it would be a waste.

Really curious about those High Cursebearer Combat-types. Simply a tier of competence and will that Hunger could never match or some way of condensing infinite amounts of training into seemingly finite time?
It's been implied that even a Progression-type would need an infinite span of time to reach the status of a High Cursebearer:
What might he be in ten year's time? A hundred? He could scarcely imagine it, even though his benefactor lay even further beyond; far, inestimably far beyond the span of finite years.
But what does such considerations matter to a being who strive to cast off the yoke of linear time entirely and eventually surpass even the bounds of the logically possible? Finding a way to extend one life beyond the span of a single omega sequence of years seems like a trivial achievement in comparison...

It's not as if the Geas limits your actions to the universe you're in, especially when mitigated! You can cast something from your universe and hit the whole multiverse or even omniverse if you're powerful enough! ;)
This makes me wonder, how does Geas handle tasks once people reach the omniversal tier? Are there ominverses that have level-apropriate enemies for high cursebearers, or at that point the Geas just stops being able to provide worthy challenges? Maybe by that point you can mostly mitigate it?

Also really curious about the defining advancment, it kind of reminds me of Philosopher-king, but probably much, much more powerful. It's probably an EFB equivalent for free, but i'm really curious. Personally, i prefer total eclipse over pillars, mostly because it's the most likely to be able to buff our companions, but i have to admit that ruling ring + pillars is absolutely insane.

Picking on Girls is a six-year-old's duty, and the blurb made me laugh. Fear the might of a tired child who refuses to admit their sleepiness! I'm a sucker for lullabies. They'll make future naptimes more efficient, too. We'll need it, because sooner or later everyone (except Gisena) will get tired of our shit and we'll need to let the heat die down.
