Magical Girl Home Base Quest

Icipall's quotes remind me of something - it's actually kind of nice to see talk of moving magical girls' friends and family (in Mistletoe's case, her girlfriend it sounds like) in. Because of their use as leverage against the girl, and by proxy us, it's something of a security risk to have such people not be secured themselves. Even aside from the security standpoint, people's mental health is influenced by that of those around them - if someone is close with a magical girl and they're suffering, the magical girl is probably also not doing too well. Our job is to support the local magical girls, and keeping them in good spirits is part of that. I can't imagine most of our veteran magical girls have that many ties anymore given their conditions, but it's still a possibility that needs to be considered.
I mean... it's nice in a shitty way. We'd still need them to pay rent, and while we'll always need mundane materials, they'd be taking up room that could be used for magical girls. Remember, this is a hotel, not an apartment complex. Families need, or at least should have, more then one room to themselves.

Then there's the neighborhood. Do remember we live in the very shitty, and thus very dangerous, part of town. Us and the girls get by on a combination of street smarts and superpowers, which their families only potentially have one of those things. Their also still magically vulnerable, so if someone hits them with a tracking spell we're fucked. Heck they could just follow them the normal way, and with no magic they'd be hard pressed to shake them. The bluiding itself is a hole. Forget creatures comforts like TV, wifi or furniture, this place doesn't have electricity or real running water.

Things are better as they stand, where the families are safe and comfortable and the girls are as safe as it's going to get. We'd need a much bigger building with a better location before I'd even consider letting civilians move in.

Our resident MGs are basically our defensive garrison. Can you imagine them sitting an attack on their home out? They would also be fighting on their home ground.

We can also now make low grade magic "bombs" wholesale. In time we should have an armory full of them to break open in case of an emergency.

The biggest problem I suspect would be the collateral damage such an attack would cause to our base.

We might want to look into a panic room for the squishy residents like us, our ritualist, and any civilians that come with MGs to shelter in in case of an attack. Might double as our workshop/library, those seem like they need to be tough.

Btw we really should look into a resident psychologist when we can.

[X] No, you want to research an item instead.
-[X] Cursed sword

Considering how big a jump the tier would be, a suitably high tier wand would be awesomesauce right now

[X] No, you want to work on your building instead

We do want to improve the building because of how many residents we have now, no?

We've got one of the girls cleaning out rooms as payment for the trinket. No one else can make gear, so unless there's a sudden influx of girls or Goodyear finds us another craftsman we should be making gear for another turn or two.

But honestly, this quest is like life. Who knows what's going to happen next turn? We might suddenly need lots of rooms, or a workshop upgrade because there's a piece of gear we absolutely must have to still be unexploded next week, or we need to hire a priest because this place turns out to be super fucking haunted and angry ghosts want our flesh and spirits parted.

Mistletoe should be in room 12.

The room numbers are currently:
1-20
120-140
200-220
300-320
Hotels are generally numbered with the first room number being 101, not 1. So with four floors, the room numbers should be:
101-120
201-220
301-320
401-420

@7734, I'm a bit confused about the cursed sword. Do we spend a turn researching the sword and end up with a Level 3 wand, or do we research the sword to break the curses and then have to spend another turn making it into a Level 3 wand? If it's the first, then I'm ambivalent between the research and making a trinket. If it's the second, then I hope that the trinket wins the vote.

We're basically converting trinkets into open rooms heh.
Literally any manual labor can clear rooms, after all.

About that,we already gotten hints from the QM that Mistletoe's particular magical skill would benefit from a trinket bringing it to the fullest.

Well, it would, but her skill is also limited, as in daily uses. If she has to fight a group, suddenly she's unable to fight. Not good.

Along with what LunarDreams said, trinkets are currently the only defensive option we have for the magical girls since we can't make costumes yet. Trompdoy needs a trinket to support her illusions, hopefully with some bonuses to help her defense so that she stops getting hurt so often. I'd rather make the trinket with 3 bombs to boost the magical girls immediately against the witch and alchemist and then research the sword next turn.

And Calypso has asked us for a wand since some good weeks ago, and everyone should have a wand and a costume, if we could. But we can't make costumes right now, and being able to make even T2 wands would make things much better.

The way I see it, everyone needs stuff. However, a wand is necessary for almost anyone to have a proper offense, so if we can get either a T3 trinket or a wand, I want the wand first. Moreover, this research-action might apparently improve MC's crafting skill for Wands, which generally allows to make better ones whenever more are needed.

I wholeheartedly agree that defense is important for MGs, as a trinket is more likely to provide, but I feel everyone should have a proper weapon at hand first so they can actually fight.

True, but this isn't good timing for it. Right now, most of the girls don't have any good gear(Mistletoe especially because of how new she is) Honestly,I feel like we won't be able to actually start improving the building until we do enough workshop upgrades(and make sure the magical girls have a full set of gear) to make sure that whatever we make lasts longer so that we won't constantly have to put out fires.

Isn't that basically all it takes at this level? We do need to expand the facilities for food and hygiene later, but they're hobogucas, their standards aren't very high for immediate places to crash.
No, otherwise every room marked by 'c' at the sheet would be open for a tenant. Only rooms that are marked by 'v' and don't have someone already living there are open for living.

@7734
If we research the sword, does that count as a crafting roll for the bombs since it results in creation of a wand? And Mistletoe is not on the Base sheet as tenant.

I'll fix the sheet later since I can't ATM, but no, a reaserch action doesn't count for bombs. You make a lot of odds and bobs when you're reaching something, especially something pricky like curse breaking.

Yeah, uh, no. Best you'll get is an out of work bartender, and you're not even old enough to make a fake ID work. Mental health is important, but you're having trouble meeting base needs right now.

You'd need an Old Priest and Young Priest for maximum effect, but yeah. A base chaplain is in the cards Eventually.

Well, no. A [cleared] room has been just that: cleared. A livable room needs to be remediated- carpet and wallpaper ripped out, new subfloor barrier layer installed, new flooring installed, new room paint, new 'facilities' added, etc.- and furnished before you can move someone in.

Laughs in Eagle Scout.

Yeah, thus the when we can part.

A bartented huh. Excellent idea! Far more in theme, too.

My issue is that it's not clear whether just researching the cursed sword is enough to produce the Level 3 wand, or if we'd have to spend another action to make the wand. If we have to spend two actions, then I'd like to make the trinket first with 3 bombs to boost the magical girls' abilities and defenses right away. If it only takes one action to get a Level 3 wand, then I'm fine with either option winning.

It... Has been said by the QM already? The research WILL produce the lvl 3 Wand, but sadly won't make bombs in the proccess.

I'm going to stick with Trinket, then. I'd rather have a level 3 item and three bombs than just have a level 3 item.

@7734, if we do research the wand this turn, will Homer make a scroll?
