I'd say that's a good thing, don't neglect the army.
Naw, naval power all the way! Our enemies armies won't be worth spit if they can't put their boots on the ground in the first place.

IC:
Salutations, siblings of my blood, tribe of my people!

Those of us united in the belief of the necessity of free will of humankind, must together ensure that the slavers, the cruel ones who would take father from daughter and brother from sister, are defeated in this duel for the righteousness of our people!

OOC:
Guys, historically speaking, the main advantage of being a trading nation is that you have dosh. You use this dosh to hire mercenaries and keep your citizens happy and your population (relatively) educated. Having a trading empire with a slave based economy in the ancient/prehistorical era is really silly, because what you effectively do is place the cash flow at risk when you go to war. The slaves have constant incentive to revolt, the mercenaries are only loyal so long as they're paid, and the slightest setback in a war could lead to both disastrous situations triggering at once. This is what Random wants, because he's an accelerationist. Let's not do that.

IC:
Thus Always To Tyrants!

Really getting tired of this. "Oh, I don't like the way Random votes, therefore he must be trying to destroy us!"

FYI, no, I'm literally just voting for this to have something different for once. And if we already have slaves, we can't accidentally create quasi-slaves by making our civilization highly stratified in our constant quest for "meritocracy".

I'm not going to start thinking about ways to start a Communist Revolution until the main turns start, so relax.

If we are trying to become a merchant republic (or a trader nation of some sort) why would we want to start out with a group of people who, by their very status, cannot gain or expend wealth?

It's much more profitable to have an underclass of wage slaves instead of actual slaves y'all :p

Come on people there are currently two other civ quests that are active where we went the vassal route, if we aren't going to do things differently then why even play this one?

Vassalage.

Vassals are a pain. They require constant attention or else they eventually break away. Seriously, atleast try to integrate them or something.

Not to mention since we are island civ actually controlling said Islands is far better option since then we can focus on building up our fleet so that no one can attack us without fear of our vassals backstabbing us.
