Cultural Discussion in Caermyr
Delyth looks about the bustling settlement of Caermyr, leaning against the brick and mortar wall in an out of the way alley.
"Still waiting for Evatine to finish?" inquires Gorwyr as her fellow Catclaw stands nearby.
"Aye," confirms Delyth, "She offered to take me with her, but I didn't feel like it today. Nice to take the time to relax and not have to worry about doing anything. It is going to be talking or numbers or both and I can't stand that sort of stuff. Stick me in a battle or war and I will excellently. Magic too. I can do magic and war, but all this other stuff that the Champion wants to teach me? I can't get my head around it."
The pair of them are Catclaws from the Arthdysh colony, young and in their early twenties with Gorwyr being slightly older than Delyth. Neither of them are on duty and as a result, neither are armoured or wearing a shield through Gorwyr carries a mace and Delyth has a sword strapped to her belt.
"Yeah, you never been one for running things outside of a battle," agrees Gorwyr with a nod of his head, "Even ignoring your natural talent for war, I couldn't see you being a priestess. They deal with too many numbers, reports and having to speak with others for you to be one."
"I could have been a priestess," says Delyth, "Just one that focused on magic and performances. But as you said, I got a talent for war and while I know it is unconventional, nothing was actually stopping me from training to be a Catclaw so I figured why not try it out. Glad I did because..."
Delyth trails off as both she and Gorwyr notice the Forluc woman approaching them. While both of them are too young to remember the war against the southern kingdom, they are still wary of what the woman wants. Both of them remember Evatine's warnings to be wary of Forluc women with large bosoms and dark skin and this woman certainly counts as one of those.
With skin the same colour as the dark brown hair of Delyth, the Forluc woman has a chest somewhere between Delyth's and Evatine's. She is also showing off like a barbarian as her breasts bounce up and down as they hang freely with nothing covering them up like a civilised woman would. The southerner isn't wearing much in general as she dresses like man with a pair of loose woollen trousers don't go down past her knees and a few pieces of golden jewellery. Each arm has a golden bracer with gems of different colours in them while a thick golden necklace is around her neck, a emerald on it below her chin. The woman also has a golden armband on her left arm with a sapphire on it.
Despite herself, Delyth cannot help, but notice that the woman is very attractive by Arthwyd standards. Beyond her exotic dark skin, the woman has a very full figure with a soft face and some nice brown hair that is lighter than her skin. As it was only a few days ago that she acquired an attraction to women from Evatine via her old friend Katryn, Delyth cannot help, but stare at this woman.
While she isn't inclined to go for this dangerous woman on looks alone, it is in that moment that Delyth understands why so many people fall for the beautiful barbarian archetype in the stories.
To Delyth's surprise, it is her that the woman approaches and not Gorwyr. Maybe it is because she is openly staring, but a more cunning part of Delyth worries that is because her closeness to Evatine, Champion of Arthryn.
"Hello," says the woman, greeting both Delyth and Gorwyr even as she keeps her attention focused on the former.
"Hello," Delyth greets her back as Gorwyr makes his own greeting.
"I was wondering if you were free to talk," asks the Forluc woman, once again addressing both of them even as she apparently focuses her attention Delyth, "I wish to learn more of your people and I feel that the best way to do so is to speaking with some of your people. Since the two of you don't look busy and are about my age, I hoped that you might be willingly to indulge my curiosity."
Delyth and Gorwyr exchange a look with each other and without speaking, both of know that the other is okay with talking from what they can feel over the Blessing of Arthryn.
"Sure," Delyth answers the Forluc woman.
"Thank you," says the woman, "I am Lady Noirin of the Forluc Kingdom. The two of you are?"
"I am Gorwyr and this is my friend Delyth," replies Gorwyr, "We are both Catclaws from the Arthdysh colony."
"Catclaws," repeats Noirin, "That is what your people call your warriors right?"
"Aye," answers Gorwyr, "Catclaws and Cateyes. Catclaws are main warriors and melee fighters while the Cateyes are our scouts and skirmishers."
"Warriors and scouts," muses Noirin, "I see. I don't wish to intrude on private affairs, but I must confess that I am quite curious about how your people approach the matter of romance and sex given your rather distinct approach on it. I have heard plenty of rumours on the matter, most conflicting with each other, so I am uncertain as to what the truth is other than it is very unconventional by most standards."
"Well, the a relationship itself is a private matter most of the time, but how we go about them isn't," replies Gorwyr, "In summary, we are okay with any sort of relationship provided all involved are willingly involved. Other than that, it just need to not be harmful and not involved sex with your blood relatives."
"I see," says Noirin as she glances over at Delyth, "So I could just ask Delyth to sleep with me..."
"I got free time so we could just go and find a bed and fornicate with each other if you are willing," Delyth tells her.
"I...I might take you up on that," replies Noirin nonplussed as she stares at Delyth, "Forgive, but the stories I heard left me with the impression that there is more foreplay and seduction involved before you reach that stage of the relationship."
"It varies from person to person," answers Delyth with a shrug, "Some people don't do casual relationships and go for long term commitments that need to be proven. Those sort of relationships get into the big stories. For me? I want build up to a long term relationship, but if you just want some casual sex? I am okay with that. I just got my attraction to women from a blood magus a few days ago so you would be my first woman, but I have experience with a few men."
"I might take you up on that," says Noirin again, but this time more confidently, "But I have a few more questions before that point. For example, how do women and men fit into Arthwyd society and what roles do they have? I never really grasped it as you have men as warriors and women as administrators, but you also have famous warriors like Evatine who are female and other female warriors like you and you also have famous male leaders like your current king."
"Most warriors are male and most priestesses are female because men are better at war and women are better peace," answers Gorwyr, "But unlike your kingdom, we don't limit warriors to being men and priestesses to being female. They end up being dominated by one gender due to the nature of things, but you don't need to be a certain gender to join the military or priesthood."
"That is...interesting," says Noirin, "That would never work amongst my people."
"Well your god does things differently to Arthryn and her Daughters," replies Gorwyr, "It works for your people so there must be something to his way even if would never work for our people."
"That is true," agrees Noirin, "My people learn from your successful ways, but they don't copy them exactly. What works for you doesn't always work for us."
"If you don't mind, I would like to ask you question Noirin," Delyth says to the Forluc woman.
"Of course, it would be rude for me to turn you down when you have been answering my questions," replies Noirin politely, turning her attention to Delyth.
"Why do you southerners always bear your breasts like that?" asks Delyth waving a hand towards Noirin's naked bosom, "Not that I am complaining, but you always seem to do it and I never get why."
"I could argue back that I never get why you northerner women always cover up your bosoms," counters Noirin.
"That is because the goddesses granted our curves as part of their blessings to us," explains Delyth, "And that makes them sexy which means to avoid sexually forcing ourselves upon others unwantedly, we need to cover them up. Men do the same with their own sexy parts."
"I see," mutters Noirin thoughtfully, "That does have some logic behind it. As for why I and others don't cover up, we don't have a reason like that. For me personally, I have this chest granted to me by Nalnir so I like to show it off. Now, I would like to approach a more sensitive subject."
"Go ahead," says Gorwyr.
"Why do the Arthwyd ban slavery?" asks Noirin, "I could understand banning your own people from being enslaved, but why everyone?"
"That would be due to the divine teachings of Arthryn," answers Delyth curtly, "One of the oldest and most important of her teachings is that we should treat everyone fairly regardless of their birth or background. Part of that means treating all people like actual people and not animals or property as doing the latter is something only barbarians do. That means no slaves and the Arthwyd must never engage in slavery as per the divine guidance of Arthryn and her Daughters."
"A religious matter," muses Noirin, "I can understand that. Religion is important and so is following your deities. Those are all of my questions for now and I am grateful to you for answering them. Now Delyth, do you still wish to sleep with me?"
"Oh definitely," confirms Delyth as she gives Noirin's chest another look, "You got a bed or shall we use mine?"
"I have one," answers Noirin, "Do you wish to also sleep with me Gorwyr?"
"No, I am already going steady with a partner," answers the other Catclaw, "Unlike Delyth, I don't casually sleep with people."
"As you wish," replies Noirin before turning to Delyth with a smile on her face, "Shall we?"
"Yes," agrees Delyth as she grins back at Noirin.
