Because boy, while we are leaps ahead of the competition, we have some severe holes in our infrastructure. Like knowing what's going on outside, or magic people.

Why are you all building shrines in rockbay when we need shrines in greenbay?
Rockbay is maxed out on shrines
It was listed amongst possible targets, so I thought (1/1) meant "one more and it'll have one, and be maxed out".

As much as I think we should get in contact with the Freak Folk remember what happened last time we tried a trade expedition without looking at the land first. Let's explore before attempting to do that again if only to give us up to date knowledge of who owns the land. Besides we only have a general idea of where the Freak Folk are and that was probably half a millennia ago at this point.

Shrines, shrines, can't neglect shrines. Mountain pass can wait one more turn. Or at least split it with shrines.

I want to study magic sooner or later - The All-Seeress has blessed us with more of her power than Arthryn herself and this just seems wrong somehow.

Better than the mountain pass. Main mountain pass eats 6 out of 7 temp econ, for little progress on a long term act.

Why is the pass so valued anyway? Shouldn't we build up what we have instead of overcommit? We still don't have max trails.

Pass will connect us more closely with our religious vassals to the north. Easier to communicate, and to help each other if one is attacked.

But we lack the resources to seriously commit a [sec] mountain pass each turn, with emergency leftover temp econ, don't we? And the vassals don't need the conection to self identify as us. The players need the connection to control them. Is the nautical inovation meaningless if it is doing nothing to help if our vassals are attacked?

the nautical innovation doesn't increase the size of the boats, just how easy it is to sail them. So, that connection isn't much improved by them. The big trail will get us the ability to send large amounts of goods/troops.
 
I'm sure the nautical innovation will make it a little easier to get to them if they're attacked, but roads are best for bulk movements.

We have 10 permanent Econ now, up from 8, because we settled new villages twice during the golden age. Sec mountain pass costs 3 temp - if we have 1-2 temp econ, refresh is 4. 3-4, refresh is 3. If we don't do too many other econ-demanding projects, we can keep the sec trails going without being perilously low.
