Stealth kitty is best kitty.

Alternatively: Metal Gear Kitty. It wouldn't even be weird to carry around the box!

It is the most effective way to actually avoid other people's attention. You know, assuming we can manage that and don't get defeated by our nerves. In which case... hijinks!
(We also want to prepare some weed killer "hexes" for the future. In-jokes can go a long way.)

The best way to be stealthy in a public setting is to act like you belong there. Not that I expect much with teenagers being involved after previously storming out. We are officially fodder for rumor-mongering.

Will it work? Probably not. But it gives us the most options to respond, in comparison to sneaking or storming in.

Really, I want something tonally between playing it cool and angry. Maybe with a touch of embarrassment at having run off before.

Why be embarrassed? Mari was being unreasonable and we left to deescalate the situation because she doesn't understand boundaries. Mari's the one who should be embarrassed.

Most of the students don't have that context; they just saw us dramatically storm out of the room out of the blue.

True but we do and this IS our emotional response to the situation, so it's probably going to be tempered by that fact, though I'd expect a little embarrassment.

Except that's not how the situation was presented.
You can feel your tail fluffing out and every muscle in your body seems suddenly tense. You're practically seeing red as you stare across the desk at Mari for a moment, trembling. You want to yell and scream and maybe just tell her that this is all a mistake and you just said you liked Jesse so that she would leave you alone about boys so you could stop thinking about how weird you are. But the words don't rise to your lips. You can't say that. Admitting that would just make things worse. So instead you just whirl around and hurtle out of the class room, slamming the door shut behind you. As you go, you can hear the murmur of startled conversation starting already as the other students notice your dramatic exit. You can worry about that later, though.
This wasn't "I will get up and leave the room before I do something rash"; this was "I'm upset and I don't know what to do and now I'm running away!" And it happened in front of a number of our classmates, who have most likely been gossiping at least a little about it.

Sure, Mari should be contrite (though I'm not sure she will be, if she doesn't have at least some understanding of why we stormed off), but that doesn't mean that we won't be embarrassed by all this.

I dunno, just casually strolling back in after that doesn't really seem to be the MC's usual mode of action.
