Interesting theory about the Abrahamic God: it's possible he used to be a Canaanite god of war whose priesthood went on to massacre the temples belonging to every other deity within their city and rewrote all the texts so that myths related to the pantheon's previous members with the chief sky god in particular being wholly assimilated would be assigned to him.

Clearly none of us would ever do such a thing in order to acquire absolute power fame and devotion.
 
Hmm, this vote is rather difficult. On one hand, being on an island is lovely, but on the other hands forests are really neat. <.<

I mean, it doesn't technically have to be babies. If we make them fully formed out of clay or similar that's fine too.

Personally, given that one of the most active Civ quests recently was a tropical Mesoamerican one, I'm really not in the mood for another tropical quest (not that it'll stop me from playing :p)

Though of course the usual warnings about wiki sources apply, it's a well-studied subject. The prominent theories about this are not quite as dramatic as StellarMonarch claims—it's not that the priesthood are likely to have actually made a coup, but that the Babylonian exile strongly shaped the beliefs of a subset of the Israelites (through exposure to Zoroastrianism) and introduced a survivorship bias. The Israel we know became monotheistic because it was that monotheistic subpopulation that felt the need to codify their beliefs (due to realizing the transience of mere belief, due to exposure to Babylonian codified godlore, due to realizing that they could go extinct or be forbidden from practicing their own culture, and etc.).
