Zerg Quest RIOT QUEST

[X] Mine Minerals (1d10)
It was a nice calm day. The drones were mining. The queens were researching. The hive was making nice soothing gurgling noises. Everything was perfect. So of course fate would choose this moment to ruin the scene.

"The birds are coming, the birds are coming!" yelled a zergling as it raced into the clearing. At this everything stopped. For a single moment everything was still, nothing moved, the only sound was the tinkling of minerals as they dropped from still claws. Then pandemonium broke out.

"AHHHHHH" screamed a drone.
"They will eat us all!!" shrieked another. Most of the rest just ran round in circles waving their claws in the air. Several drones crashed into each other and fell into a heap. As the situation began to devolve into full blown anarchy, fate once again decided to throw a spanner in the works.

"Ummm... You do realise that they will not be here for another few days right?" said the zergling who had caused all this. Once more everything froze. All the drones eyed each other holding completely still. As the awkward silence drew on the drones seemed to come to a collective decision.

"Of course we did, right guys?" asked the nearest drone to the zergling. At this everyone behind him nodded. Very enthusiastically. Maybe a little too enthusiastically. At which point all the drones picked themselves up and went back to work, trying very hard to pretend that nothing had happened.

it would be late in the tech-tree, but the old sc1 defiler would be useful with their plague ability for this. or the old queen's ensnare ability.

or an aoe research for spore/spine crawler attacks would be good. even if it would just be splash damage.
[X] Mine Minerals (1d10)

So we are all going to get attacked soon. At least one way or another, that will be done with, and then we can move in on the birds.
It has delayed my chance to be something other than a drone, but all that biomass means opportunity.
We could take a step beyond three body types from buying more time. And if I happen to find an injured "bird" on my way to mining minerals, then maybe I could find myself a pet. Something other than serving myself or the hive. Maybe it is not likely, but its still a fantasy I can have regardless of how badly it would actually go.

And if that does not work out, I could try to make friends with the other members of our brood. that is always a good third option.

Yes, there are a lot of choices coming up soon. And the more npcs we get stuffing our giant, organic pyramid full of essential, organic minerals, the more viable those choices will be. Its a good scheme to be on top of.

(edit: I am half asleep and need rest for my tabletop game, otherwise I'd write better. but I did manage to make a pun about multi level marketing at the end.)
(Edit again: I am unsure how good these rolls are)

I was proposing an attack, for those who were wondering, but haven't dedicated yet due to low response. I can always do some random research instead.

If you decide to do the Research, would you consider this?
Psionic Resonance (Hatchery)(Unique)
(1 R&D Slot for 1 Turn)
The peculiar psionic gestalt developed by your strain has unique advantages. And yet, not all the Zerg in your Swarm exhibit the peculiar form of alien consciousness. Though by spreading the Psionic presence of an awoken Queen you may yet infuse even mindless drones with a spark of zeal.
Player Queens support actions now affect mindless units.
Since we're getting another heroic queen, when they decide to buff mineral or gas collection it will autoadd 3*numer of mindless drones we have collecting that resource. I think it would be pretty nice to have, probably doesn't cost much, and scales consistently, even if it's never going to be amazing.

Alright, I think I will go for an 'attack', though this one is more of highly aggressive scouting/resource raiding. We need any advantage we can get, and if we can trigger a battle between two enemies that would be advantageous.
Alternatively, get confirmation that the Giant Swarm are gone, and we don't have to worry about them.

[X] Lead an attack; Plan: Remember those giant guys?
-The Swarm hasn't sensed so much as a scrap of chitin from the Giant Swarm ever since the Birds exploded in number. Did the Birds devour them for biomass? Or are they still around, and if so, can they be useful?
-Send all the zerglings out towards where the Giant Swarm was, using strength in numbers and speed to punch through any intervening birds.
-If the Giant Swarm is still there, launch a token attack (maybe kill a drone or two), then retreat in the direction of the Bird nest in an attempt to draw the Giant Swarm into attacking the Birds, hopefully weakening and distracting them.
-If their next is destroyed and empty, grab any minerals, gas, or biomass that remains that you can and return home with it, killing any birds along the way.
-If their nest is destroyed and occupied, consider the strength of whatever is there; if you think you can take it, kill it and drag the Essence-rich body(s) back. If it looks strong, try to lure it to the birds.
-Regardless, survival is to be aimed for, but at least some deaths are expected.
-The Queen will stay near the home hive and hunt any bird scouts that get too close while staying safe.

—————————————————
Long passed are the days when the entirety of the hive was focused only on the collection of resources and expansion. This Zergling had awoken to a Hive beset on all sides, and yet it's greatest contributions paled in comparison to the work of the Drones and Queens. All have their role and while this Zergling has not remained idle, they are discomforted by the prospect of waiting around the Hive. By the idea of waiting to be attacked. No longer. The Queens have declared that now is the time for action. They have determined that we must discover what remains of their rival Hive after the fires, and if they might be put to use against the threat that looms above them. It is unknown how successful they will be, or if they'll even return with anything of value. But for the Zergling they have what matters most. Purpose.

[X] Join a Queen led attack (1d10)

It was time. Finally it was time to sink claws in the enemy. To strike into enemy territory. This zergling was struggling to keep its emotion intact. When it received psi signal that ordered it to join the attack, it overflowed its synapses with never before felt excitement and anticipation. It has hunted before, yes. But this time, this time it was something entirely new.

Oh, yes, just remembered that I need to roll dice with that leading of an attack!

The philosophical mind was distinctly irritated at the annoying Birds. Wasn't there anything else that could be done to bother them for their crimes of interrupting its research? Well, there had been that giant Hive out in the jungle. But did the Birds already eat them? Well, only one real way to find out. Gather up a bunch of zerglings and send them out to look! The Queen would stay within easy retreating distance of the Swarm, but would still go out and try to spike some of those flappy annoyances itself. And if the Giants were still there, the zerglings would lead them to the Bird nest to hopefully blow it up. Or if they were all dead, there should be loot to be had, since the Birds seemed to not care about minerals. Regardless, the Aggressive Exploratory Expedition would at least kill any birds it ran across in the process!

[X] Join a Queen led attack (1d10)

To join the queen, to die for the hide. this was the honor and the pride of a zergling. His body, his flesh, to be torn so that the swarm might thrive. Their current weakness is only temporary so long as they continue to live. Scared, afraid, ferocious and hungry. The zergling follows the queen to battle. It does not know what tomorrow may come, but it will be a day that the swarm feasts upon the flesh of its enemies if this Zergling has anything to say about it.

Edit: Lmao. put this little zerg out of his suffering.

Cumulative score of 57 for the attack so far, though that's not taking the Autonomous zerglings into account.

The new Queen felt... Shiny for lack of a better term.

Of course with a new Queen the clarity of your thoughts was a little better. Plus you got confirmation that those flying rats will attack us shortly.

Maybe you will be lucky and one of them will end crippled by an attack close to you? You are holding a bit of a grudge for their last attack and how it almost disrupted the Mining Flow.

From my count we're at -55 since Danger Kitty changed their vote again. Had someone decide to become a Spore Crawler.

Edit: Make that -44, I missed a couple posts before.

...I don't think we're gonna be able to make that up. We've pretty much run out of players here, based on the rate of votes. So what happens if we're running a mineral deficit at the start of a new turn? One of the projects gets cancelled?

[X]Mine minerals (1d10)

The new queen arose, and A-07 could sense war on the horizon. But wars are not won or lost based on the strength of the armies waging them, they are decided by the economies propping the armies up. Minerals coming to be in short supply, and A-07 was nothing if not dedicated to the glorious hive.
