Zerg Quest RIOT QUEST

The birds fly, and the giant swarm is not sneaky. I'd honestly be surprised if the Birds *didn't* already know about its existence, which is why I didn't go with that decoy plan. Either they're already attacking it, or it has good enough defenses that we're the easier target.

I think the better option would be to try to lead the Giant Swarm to the Birds. I can certainly see them not knowing where the bird nest is to hit it with giant banelings.

THE FIRST HEROIC QUEEN
Starting Minerals: 26
Minerals Mined:314
Queen Bonus:55
Automated Drone Production: 130/ 10Gas
Total Positive this turn: 525

Drone Production Cost: 250
Queen Production Cost: 150
Total Negative this turn: 400

Current Minerals before events:
Current Minerals after events:

Current Bank: 125 Minerals/60 Vespene Gas/24 Biomass/0 Heroic Bonuses/ R&D slots 0/1

Jungle:
With four Zerglings in a pack and knowing what to expect you manage not to die. The small pack of birds you find and a few stragglers you kill but safety in numbers and superior speed wins the day, if only barely as in no less than two occasions did you almost get overwhelmed and lose everyone. What you learned was important though. This will be your last moment of peace (Attack is coming in two turns) unless something is done to distract or delay them.

Tunnel:
You get another look at their giant structure and it is apparently being filled with vespene. Why though? To make it float? To synthesize something? To use as an attack?

Volcano:
????????????

The first new strain of Zerg is planned a simple flying thing, much like the birds that have been attacking you. Using a small amount of vespene you are able to make them fly a little bit faster and you restructure part of the body so that the tail can launch spines much like a queen does. Though that is not the biggest change the swarm sees today. The greatest is the heroic queen being born. They are larger, tougher and stronger than the other queens but not only that, their psionic reach and potency is amplified. The mind that inhabits such a body finds itself boosted and able to do much greater versions of what queens can already do.

This is the start of something more, a heroic queen is going to be much more powerful when fighting off the birds but somehow you can tell it's greatest asset is as a force multiplier increasing the effectiveness of the swarms resource gathering and R&D.

You want more. What would a heroic Ultralisk look like? One with a dozen evolutions and custom upgrades? What more could you be with time and resources, with samples from a dozen species. You need more units, more resources more everything. But this was the first step to that in a big big way.

With a short pause before the birds come in great numbers you know now is the time. Survival of the fittest, you have this and one more day to prepare and then the swarm shall die, or it shall be victorious and swimming in biomass.

Well, I guess more scouting for as a Zergling? I'll wait for the people with the plans to pitch in, but that's what it seems like. While the hive focuses on getting Flacons and a Roach Warren up. With one of the Queens improving Vespene Gas collection for that I guess?

Shit. If we had a Roach Warren or Baneling Nest, then we could have evolved the hive and gotten a Hydralisk Den.

@BeeBadidoo As loath as I am to pass up the Mineral increase, I think you should boost the Falcon research's power .We need to split our focus this turn between harvesting Gas and Minerals, have the Auto-Queen research the Falcons, and then start churning them out.

A note on the queens heroic R&D upgrades which isn't obvious:

1) It's free
2) The upgrades are permanent boosts (you could have R&D these boost later but this saves time and money to do a better base version)

For example if the power choice for falcons is made this turn, then they will get 2 spine attacks instead of 1, increasing their effectiveness and the effectiveness of future attack upgrades.
Or the efficiency upgrade can be chosen which will lower their cost so you can spam them more.

In either case, since the R&D only takes the one turn, you will only have one chance.
(And only 1 can be chosen per R&D option anyway)
And reminder it can only be done while your researching it.

[X] Improved R&D (Increase Power: This will increase the effectiveness of an upgrade or a new unit essentially acting as an upgrade to it for free)

[] Research "Falcon" Zerg Strain: (Cost 1 R&D Slot for 1 turns 100 minerals 100 gas)

We need someone to pull the trigger on this one. Anyone around who doesn't have a body feel up to it?
*Cough* 40 gas short *Cough*

which is fine as long as it's net positive by end of turn and 1 auto drone means 30 short.

The drone is tired, very tired, so tired it got out of character for its skit about a cultivation drone, so tired in fact the fourth wall has fallen asleep out of sheer sympathy, so tired that even the author writing this feels like they just got out of bed. Oh wait, yep that parts true, eh, its not like the drone will remember pulling a Deadpool, this is a non canon omake the author is going to sweep under the rug next time it comes time to write something for more dice rolls.

The Neo-Drone paused as he felt the new consciousness expand and touch the minds of the Swarm. He greeted the new Queen, analyzing the web of thoughts and ripples of reactions. He examined the new strain that was being brought about, and the resources needed to make them a reality. Priorities shifted as he changed directions, heading towards the Vespene extractors rather than the mineral fields.

It was a novel experience extracting Vespene. The gas seemed to make him more buoyant as it filled the collection sacs from special nodules within the extractor. He had to stretch out his limbs to maintain a firm grip on the ground while not increasing the amount of effort and thus energy he used. The gas also tingled, it's potent potential and the radical bio-agents contained within practically singing with contained energy. Diving into the Hatchery, the Neo-Drone actually felt a bit of relief as the gas was siphoned away, to be used to fuel the creation of a new form of Zerg. But there's no rest for the weary, and more yet needed to be done as he went back for the next load.

The young drone mined the minerals fiercely as it was in the state of overdrive.

A battle is coming soon. It needs to help the hive now.

So... I think that's 49 Vespene *and* a Heroic Bonus? I do believe we're in business.

Did you just get a heroic? My man! Way to go!

...now does that apply to you or go into the pool? And does it increase the cost of further bonuses?

I lowkey hope it applies to you and you become a double-heroic drone.

Also, action.

...

Battle was coming. The swarm was preparing, but the weapons available might not-almost certainly would not-be enough. The new strain was being prepared, but the former-hunter had its own plans.

And so, full of spite, it threw itself down and began to change.

[X] Mine Minerals (1d10)

You life as a Drone is fairly monotonous. Go to a Mineral Patch, bite it with your jaws until a small piece is removed, and then return to the Hatchery. Other than when the local birds attacked, nothing happened much. You hear the others plan on ways to defend the hive and it seems that your idea to use the bird's DNA to remake the old Scourge strain evolved into an entirely new species.

You don't know how they will perform in combat as they are untested, that is none of your concern as I have no influence in that part of the Swarm. However, I do hope they succeed so that I don't get eaten, the imprint from those Zerglings that got torn apart last cycle is a very unpleasant experience.
