In a way, the squirrel had begun a cycle.
Outward. Inward. And now outward again.
Outward to the surrounding world, opening himself to possibilities previously beyond conception. Inward, filling his inner being with energy to be spent when most needed.
And now, outward again, taking in the existence of...everything.
As the squirrel recognized, it was not the threats that were known that were a true danger. Any challenge could be overcome with enough time and knowledge. Even the fearsome owl could be survived - vanquished, even - if only they could see them coming and had time enough to spare.
No, the true threats were threats unknown. And that was what made the owl truly dangerous, its great aptitude with striking without warning, its prey dead before it even realized its life was in peril.
True security, true power, true triumph would come from true awareness of the surrounding world.
And so the squirrel sat and opened his senses to all that the world had to offer. The flow of the breeze, the rippling of flowing water, the sound of moving leaves. Not even the falling of the leaf or the footstep of the smallest insect would escape his notice.
And in time, he would learn the moves of the owl before the owl knew itself. And then at last would the long order of the squirrel and owl finally at long last be upended and turned on its head.

EDIT: Accidentally pressed roll before finished dice title with adding in the +1 note.
Side note:
How exactly does it work having .6 of a Squirrel?
