Shepard Quest Mk VI, Technological Revolution

Any last-minute details for the event?
[ ] Minor details
I'm not sure what this entails.
As for interlude... I'd like to see the Turain Patriarchs reaction. I can only imagine they're caught somewhere between panic at the new super power on the block going to war and excitement at seeing the new doctrines our tech encourages put into action.

they'll also be torn between wanting to finally deal with the Batarian's destabilising presence and not wanting to cause a massive escalation.

[X] Minor details
-[X] All enemy tech to be placed in an isolated sealed vault with full radiological, EM shielding and whatever else we can think of until it can be verified as safe.
-[X] Our drones are to put towards search and resuce while our forces conduct a sweep of our facility, Afterwards any spare staff are asked to aid the planetary government.
-[X] Any serviceable building will be used for humanitarian aid unless it's a critical security risk.
-[X] Personally provide remote assistance to the recovery efforts however possible.

[X] Human ambassador to the council.

Bandwagon get!

In other news, looks like our whining got the Giant Space Flea slaughtered. Mixed feelings, but good to see an update! Guess the next one will be OP'er. Cool.

It lives!!!

Combat was a bit of an anti-climax but well overwhelming firepower is kinda overwhelming.

On a side note ages ago I was asked, "What effects would licensing our PMC in the Alliance have?" and I really couldn't think of one other then PR. I have thought of one now though. Feel free to object or add in details it just the seed on an idea. In times of war the SA gets to hire the company for whatever they want and you can't really say no (baring some edge cases). They do have to pay reasonable amounts (Cost + Some reasonable % profit... IDK 5-10%?) and have to cover costs if they force you to default on a contract.

Seems pretty reasonable to me. That kinda makes PMCs like the reserves, free to do what they want during peacetime but (effectively) part of the military during wartime. It's actually a pretty sweat deal for the government since it means they don't have to pay for wages or equipment during peacetime and get a source of highly experienced soldiers during wartime. That actually makes it a good explanation for why they'd give up a monopoly on force, with the way things are they just have a majority share in force, since technically they aren't, because during wartime PMCs are effectively run by the government, and save big dollars by doing so.

I guess it's a pretty good thing we've put a lot of effort into building up Revy's relationship/reputation with the Alliance military, and to lesser extent the government, since it means they'll be less likely to treat our troops as less valuable then theirs.

In addition they probably can force you to produce certain goods (in this case ships) for them. With the same general rules (must pay fair price, cover defaulted contracts etc). I'm thinking a combination of wartime powers + eminent domain sort of deal. Of course I'm glossing over a large amount of the background wheeling and dealing and maybe I'm crazy. Thoughts?

Oh they can definitely compel PI to produce whatever they want. We're an Alliance corporation, and primarily staffed by humans, so we'd definitely fall under the scope of such laws. I have no idea what the relevant laws would be called, google isn't helping me right now, but given how tons of industry in WWII was converted to military purposes on government orders it's almost certainly out there.

It seems that the battle in space has concluded, one of your ships was forces to pull out but has all ready rebuilt its shields. A full two-thirds of the attackers ships are wreckage several of them dying to allow the rest to flee.

Even as you note that fact, the frigates are descending into Mindoir's atmosphere long ranged bombardment rounds striking the carrier. With their added support the enemy fighters are not going to be able to achieve much.

Hm. Well if we take my previous numbers:
Invasion Cost:
1x Dreadnought = 45,500,000,000,000cr
6x Cruiser = 67,896,000,000,000cr
28x Frigates = 12,924,240,000,000cr
800x Fighters = 96,000,000,000cr
12,000x Missiles = 504,000,000,000cr
Total = 126,820,240,000,000cr
and assume the two thirds is split evenly across Cruisers and Frigates then just the Mindoir part of this war has cost the Batarians:
Batarian Invasion Cost:
1x Dreadnought = 45,500,000,000,000cr
4x Cruiser = 45,264,000,000,000cr
19x Frigates = 8,770,020,000,000cr
800x Fighters = 96,000,000,000cr
12,000x Missiles = 504,000,000,000cr
Total = 100,134,020,000,000cr

100 trillion credits is quite the loss for the Batarians. Especially when you consider the total friendly costs:
Friendly Losses Cost:
5x Medium Anti-ship Missiles = 297,500,000cr
103x Aspidai Drones = 51,500,000cr
239x Accipiters Drones = 95,600,000cr
25x Hydra Missiles = 100,000,000cr
Total = 544,600,000cr

Spending 0.0005% as much as our enemy is an amazing victory for us. Of course this only takes into account expenses we know about. For example we don't know anything about the battle between soldiers:
Not to say that you won't try to help out in some way. Looking over the newly landed carrier you attempt to discern what you can about it. Measuring in at one thousand meters, it has four massive engines at the rear, which one would assume are anti-matter powered hydrogen-remass drives. Along the side are a stacked series of bays which are happily releasing hundreds of fighters, tanks and thousands of soldiers, humanoid ones at that.

@Hoyr - Next update a tally of losses for both sides, or even better a review of the battle, would be nice.

Now I've got to go through the event and look for all the expenses and add them to the Finance Doc, I'm fairly sure I haven't already. Only problem is remembering how it works after so long...

I would say it would be easy enough to make a case to the Citadel Council that the batarians are destructively analyzing a mass relay and they should send a Spectre to investigate.

Update:
Finance Doc

->Updated General Fabrication Licences to 93,000,000,000cr/quarter starting 2174-Q2
->Added Rushed Shield Activation (Landing) expense to Other Outflows for 200,000,000cr in 2174-Q2
->Recorded order of 1,000 Sagittarius Drones to ParSec for 300,000,000cr in 2174-Q2
->Recorded order of 1,000 Aspidai Drones to ParSec for 500,000,000cr in 2174-Q2
->Recorded order of 20 Medium Anti-ship Missiles to ParSec for 1,190,000,000cr in 2174-Q2
->Recorded order of 20 Tigers to ParSec for 80,000,000cr in 2174-Q2
->Recorded order of 100 Hydras to ParSec for 400,000,000cr in 2174-Q2
->Recorded order of 192 Legionaries to ParSec for 134,400,000cr in 2174-Q2
->Recorded order of 1,000 Pillums to ParSec for 25,000,000cr in 2174-Q2

That should be everything. Seems like we actually made a net loss this quarter, about -3.8 billion, but that's mostly down to the raid, we spent 2.8 billion on stuff for it, and the rest would go to our building a navy for ParSec.

In the upcoming quarter we should have ~1.5 trillion credits to spend on all sorts of things. That said I suspect our biggest issue next quarter will be our limited production since the Alliance is almost certainly going to want us to start producing ships for them now when, even in the most optimistic calculations, we can, at most, produce 40 next quarter, realistically we'll likely end up spending production on other things. Although with how PMCs can basically be considered part of the military during wartime we could probably get away with diverting a chunk of that production to ParSec since it's, effectively, going to the military, and at a lower cost since they are only paying mission fees not purchase price.

Oh and this doesn't take into account any money we might make from the raid from things like salvage, especially the Eezo of destroyed ships, or compensation from the Alliance for our assistance in Mindoir's defense. Speaking of Eezo I expect we'll see a wave of babies being born this year with either brain tumors or Biotic potential. After all that Super-Carrier must have had a massive Eezo core and it exploded something like 30km away from Landing.

@Hoyr - Next update a tally of losses for both sides, or even better a review of the battle, would be nice.

Sure I can do that, but it's pretty much:

Batarian Loses
1 Carrier
+Contents (Been a while and I can't recall the exact numbers)
--At a stab using the contents of the USS Wasp class the total would be around:
----- >2000 Fighters
----------- ??? Missiles (More then 8 times number of fighters?)
------ >2000 Combat Vehicles
------ >4000 Support Vehicles (Supply trucks etc)
------ >60,000 Troops (Most standard ME gear)
------ ??? Drones (Thousands to tens of thousands)
4 Cruisers
6 Cruiser Fighter Squadrons
18 Frigates

VS

SA Loses
Munitions and drones as per noted values in quest (don't feel like counting)
Assorted Damage to GARDIAN towers (Less then 200m cr in total I think.)
Some damaged/lost SA fighters?
Some Frigate Damage?
Light damage to ground units?

The ground battle never really happened thanks to [Reality Edit] so SA ground losses were basically zero. The GARDIAN lasers held until the enemy ground force got orbital striked to hell. Then it would have been clean up with Legionaries vs scatted normal ME troops. The entire thing went FUBAR once it became clear the space battle was lost, and well even before that the strong resistance in space turned the whole thing into a CF.

So yeah giant money losing CF for the Batarians for no gains.

I'd have to do some thinking to give more exact numbers of course and i may have forgotten something.

(Now see if I was in the Batarians shoes I would have dropped their entire fleet (or most of it any way) on you, but that's... not really "kosher" for lack of a better term)

Now I've got to go through the event and look for all the expenses and add them to the Finance Doc, I'm fairly sure I haven't already. Only problem is remembering how it works after so long...

Good luck!

Hmm... going to have to roll to see if the cores of the wrecks got splatted or not.

Compensation for defense... not sure... I guess you might get payed for expended munitions/losses, but the forces you defended with are effectively a PMC you hired to guard your stuff and the attack was aimed at you... Wouldn't be even sure how to price it at the moment.

As for the Carrier you'd be right... if it exploded (*Goes back to edit in better descriptions to make it clear it didn't splatter everywhere*). It's more like it (and anything too close) got bathed in laser light melting the shit out of everything. This is why the antimatter pods did not cook off :). The core is "intact" save for the melting thing. The "boom" was from a thunder clap style effect, in fact better description! Using.

I try to use my technobabble correctly (success varies). "Photonic implosion" is a massive sudden consecration of photons toward a point. (In this case an out of control arc reactor trying to draw in more power. Followed swiftly by the arc-reactor dying. Yes you can try to weaponize it... It'd be one of two modes of arc-reactor weaponization I guess... I'll think about were it goes on the tech tree:rolleyes:)

On the other hand lots of eezo using equipment got blasted so there maybe a spike any way.
