Shepard Quest Mk VI, Technological Revolution

eh... if you have access to the Keyboard but the compiler is hidden and the language is foriegn what can you do? other than blow it up?

I was answering your question about how/could a different operating system (would) break another. There are many reason to want to change/add files to a system other than just stealing data.

Maybe, anyway i'm thinking of implementing literal fail"safes" for our servers, in that when power is cut the servers recede into an armored box in the floor which automatically seals.

Which is then covered in a high intensity laser grid run on a separate power grid which only has a 1 centimeter gap between each laser and have them forming a square grid so if they try to shove their fingers through to get to the recess, they will lose their fingers.

Not sure how we are supposed to get them out after that, though.....

Getting them powered again, what else?

I said I wasn't sure, because 'security measures' are supposed/believed to reach a point where 'no-one can access it for maintaince and thus useless' and I didn't know if I passed that point.....

Remember that all security measures are no worthwhile defense if there aren't people around to intervene when one tries to circumvent them. If someone can get his hands on our most secure data storage systems for long enough to do a cold restart we've lost horribly anyway.

I definitely say it was a personal action Revy is going out and doing stuff. Stuff of particular note to be precise.
Well if it was only one or two interviews I'd argue it's the same as Nova Mark, which basically counts as a Company Action, but since I'm suggesting a study of interviewing techniques and possibly multiple interviews then yes I agree a full Personal Action seems warranted.

Reminds me I totally need to assign you guys a military Liaison.... Hm... I may have to OC some one up I can't really think of some one that is the right rank, skill and knowledge that is not a more active combatant like Captain Anderson.
Kahlee Sanders is still working for the Alliance in 2173, I think; she doesn't leave the Aliance Navy until the Ascension Project gets going in a few years.

Quick wiki walk has her in the Alliance until 2175, out of it for three years, and then at the Ascension Project when it starts in 2178, two years after it started. So yeah, she could theoretically be it.

Kenneth Donnelly might work too, I think. Or lieutenant Gregory Adams - he looks old enough to be experienced, and has served on "all kinds of ships", giving him a lot of experience. If we hint to the right people about developing ships, he could well be a liaison assigned to us at least for that project.

Surprising lack of controversy here, though I suppose even if we are going to be attacked we don't even need centralized C&C, given our boss armor and the Tigers we probably have on-site, its integrated comm gear, and the fact that we're occupying the hardest hard site on the planet with an Alliance Cruiser flotilla available for air support.

and the Tigers we probably have on-site

You know its funny but these didn't get mentioned in the vote and thus not in the update. (One version did IIRC) The Alliance Cruiser London and her Flotilla just stopped by to pick up their shipment. So you have maybe two or three. (Built at a rate of ~12 per day)

Ships have been dropping by fairly regularly to pick up Tigers. Multiple times a week often.

I was really wondering how people would feel about the counter hack given I said that the hacker was operating at the same level as you. I also wondered if someone would argue about armament... But people seem fine. The main point of argument seemed to be counter hacking vs the safe option. Even then... well it wasn't much of an argument. *Shrugs*

Trying to get questers to be safe is like beating your head against the wall. I like my gray matter.

SO I got bored and it looks like the winner is:

[x] You're good
[X] ...hack the attacker back. (May gain intel on hacker, success will delay hacking)

How game changing is the Tiger anyway? And how popular are they with the Alliance?

How game changing is the Tiger anyway?

That's one of those really complicated questions... and I'm feeling lazy. So sort version:

As an IFV its pretty revolutionary. The Tiger functions as an IFV, Aerospace shuttle, and ground attack aircraft. Getting all those thing in one package and doing them well is pretty impressive. In additon the Tiger can play ball with last gen MBTs though it's the handicapped party in terms of raw hurtyness (its close though)!

Having them in general along with the Legonary means that the Alliance has a major edge in terms of ground battles.

However Mass Effect is a space setting over all. And when it comes down to it... it doesn't change much on that scale. Enemies the alliance faces will be more inclined to pull out nastier weapons and bombard things more and less inclined to fight major ground battles. For good or ill.

And how popular are they with the Alliance?

Very.

Well, that's one not too obvious way to have a heavy military presence in a system. "Why are all those ships here?" "Picking up supplies, they'll transit out after they're done."

True, but their arrival and pick up cycles are also fairly obvious.

Also... wow that roll... 2 out of 18 dice with 1/3 success odds.. ouch. Eh,,, I'll invoke Edge as I'm sorta kinda using shadowrun... And two more hits... Well this'll be FUN :drevil:.
