SayakaQuest: Trauma is a Thing

Poor Sayaka, if only they had covered Faust earlier in the year. Speaking of faustian bargains, where's Kyubey? I wonder if it's standard procedure to make yourself scarce for awhile once a Puella starts asking uncomfortable questions?

[x] Keep working.

Looks like the invasive telepathic voice is shy. How's that for strange? Let's just leave it be.

Study Session to a Sleep Over [30]
[x] Keep working.

You shrug and keep working. Eventually, though, Madoka shuts the book on you. "Come on! I was having fun with it!"

"Yes, but we still need to go over algebra." She says. With a groan, you pull up your assignment on your part of the desk and grab a stylus.

"Fine, fine." You start writing in some bits of the assignment as she puts the textbook in front of you.

Eventually, you're done studying, and you lean back with a stretch. "Wow." You say as you stretch. "Glad that's over!"

You let out a relieved sigh, and you look around. "So, Madoka..." You look to the side to see her asleep, then you look at a clock.

It's ten at night.

You've been here for six hours.

[] Leave.

Since Sayaka is now a shiny magic rock animating a meat puppet does she actually need to sleep? It would be nice to fit some magical experimentation in here - Sayaka's powerset is a little dull at present.

It would make sense, especially for Sayaka of all MG- a central part of her powers is enhanced endurance. I'd be willing to bet that it would speed up her Soul Gem corruption rate, though.

[X] Call mother, and either ask if we can sleep over here (if she answers) or leave a message saying that we are sleeping over here (if she doesn't).
-[X] Assuming we get permission (or no answer), sleep here.

You could go ahead and try figuring out more of your powers. After all, you're in a fight for you life! Who knows when your last day might be...

...

Screw that. You fall backwards, flat on your back with your eyes to the ceiling. You take a deep breath and sigh as you stare, before you roll close to Madoka's bed. "...'Night, Madoka." You murmur, before you fall asleep.

When you wake up in the morning, it's not because of any alarms. It's because someone forgot where you were and they decided to try getting off of the bed. You're woken up by a foot to the stomach. "Oh my gosh!" Madoka shouts as soon as you gasp in pain. "Are you okay?!"

"Never...better..." You say through a pained breath. Well, you're awake now so that's a thing.

... Aren't we still wounded, or did that heal already?

[X] Get ready for... Fuck it, we're skipping today. Mondays suck. Besides...
-[X] We need to see if we can find that person from yesterday. Madoka being there might have scared her off.

We need to start out as a delinquent. It is important to get this out of our system before everything goes to shit.

Well, who wants to go to school in clothes worn for more than 24 hours and slept in? Nobody.

[x] Hurry home.
[x] Get cleaned up.
[x] If there's no time to get to school after you're done that, make an excuse and skip.

Sayaka probably sleeps through class anyway. That study session was likely more productive than three school days. :p

April 6, Monday - School and A Lesson From Homura [32]
[x] Hurry home.
[x] Get cleaned up.

You get up, and you're not even dressed in your school uniform. You're still in a t-shirt and jeans. At least it's early enough so that you can easily run home...ish.

"Gotta get home!" You shout to Madoka. "I'll try getting to school, okay?"

Madoka nods, as you rush out the door with your hair in a mess, your hairclip on Madoka's floor, and your clothes so badly wrinkled that you're certain that the creases have creases.

You blow through the city at high speeds without any conscious thought of how fast you're going. Without so much as a second thought, you leap over fences, run up walls and scramble over barriers on your way back home. When you reach your apartment, you do a ten-foot drop from a brick wall to the ground, where you roll and rush into your apartment complex. You run up the stairs, get to your apartment, get your keycard scanned, throw open the door, rush by your mother (who, dressed in a bathrobe and holding a steaming cup of Black Death Coffee, promptly says "Welcome back, sunshine." You reply with a rushed "Thanksmomgottadostuffnowkaythanksbye."), get to your room, slide it open, slam it closed, turn on your shower, get washed, get dressed and wa-bam, you're ready for school...

...And then you promptly double over out of exhaustion. You aren't on your knees, but you can feel the effects of your run. Perhaps you should have done more jogging. Like, even more than you already do at school.

Actually, now that you think about it, you moved a lot faster than you thought that you would. And when you check the time, you realize that it only took you fifteen minutes to do all of that. "...How far away from Madoka's home am I?" You murmur. That's something to figure out; you just did mad parkour and a high-speed dash without even realizing that you did it.

Must be a magical girl thing.

[x] If there's no time to get to school after you're done that, make an excuse and skip.

You walk outside of your room dressed and with your laptop bag in tow. You sigh as you walk downstairs, still somewhat winded from the run you just did. You look at your clock and...yeah, you're actually perfectly clear to go to school.

That was some pretty epic zen parkour there. I guess there are side benefits to being a doomed lich.

[x] Get to school.
[x] Question Homura, but take pains to be polite about it.
- [x] Try and get useful advice regarding magic or witches.
- [x] Ask her what she knows about Kyubey.

My memory of this series isn't completely clear, but I think Sayaka has seen Homura taking shots at Kyubey? Now that Sayaka suspects Kyubey of hiding important information, I could see her starting to wonder about what might motivate Homura to kill it.

I only know Homura as the time traveling napalm. Yes, let's be polite.
... I have this urge to go and re-read Witch Quest.

No one expects Time Traveling Napalm!

I wonder if Homura can give us advice on how to improve our fighting skills? (I also hope we don't drive her to insane/crazy actions like Witch Quest did.)

By the way, Moid, can we just add our soul gem state to our HUD? Unless, of course, there's some reason we can't check it at a given time. Kinda like what you did with the power left timers.

We did have a shitstorm about checking grief in Witch Quest too, mostly because we ended up having to vote for it every single goddamn time for every single goddamn post. And what's worse, if any came up, we had to stop and do something to drain it. And we had to vote on that too.

Oh, what do you wanna do?

Go to the temple! And handle grief!
Interrogate the prisoner! And handle grief!
Go to breakfast! And handle grief!

It was AsukaQuest's endless stream of 'Eat Breakfast' votes before it happened.

Don't let the quest fall for the same trap, Moid.
Oh, fuck no, I'm not repeating that mistake. I'll have Sayaka periodically check her Soul Gem for lolcorruption.

Could always train Sayaka to use her sword to reflect an image of her soul gem in combat if we really want an in combat method to check her gem.

School and A Lesson From Homura [33]
[x] Get to school.

You wave goodbye to your mom and start heading over to the school. You can see Hitomi and Madoka talking in the distance, before you wave at them. "Hey!" You shout. "Sorry for being late! Had to run home and do things!"

Madoka stares. "You ran awfully fast."

"I just got ready quickly." You say. "Nothin' to it!" Except for the, you know, superhuman parkour.

You all chat about absolutely nothing in particular before, eventually, you reach the classroom. Kazuko walks in, tired, as she starts immediately rambling about bad boyfriends.

...This is going to be a fun class.

[x] Question Homura, but take pains to be polite about it.
- [x] Try and get useful advice regarding magic or witches.
- [x] Ask her what she knows about Kyubey.

You see her in the front of the class...so you decide to try something.

'Pssst...'

She doesn't respond, though she does seem to flinch slightly.

'Homura. Hey.'

'What do you want?' Even through the mental link, you just feel a chill go down your spine. It's another good reason why you don't like her. There's just something so very...off about her. About everything surrounding her.

'I...well...I'm sorry.'

'You're what, now?'

'Sorry.' You sigh. 'I blamed you for Mami's death. And it was uncalled for, honestly.'

She pauses. '...Apology accepted. But that isn't the reason why you wanted to talk to me, is it?'

You blink. She caught on quickly. 'I need two things. One: I need some...advice.'

'Advice?' She seems inquisitive.

'I...not to say I'm not confident in my own powers but...uh...I'm still new to this whole "magical girl" thing.' You sigh. 'Do you have anything useful regarding magic or witches?'

'Run, save, avoid.'

'...Huh?'

'Three simple things. Run from things that look too powerful. Save your grief seeds. Stockpile them and use as little energy as possible. And avoid other magical girls. Always avoid other magical girls.'

You frown. '...Not all of them are as nice as Mami, are they?'

'Some of them are among the worst humanity has to offer. The pressure of death changed them. Some of them become ruthless. Some of them are selfish. Some...' She pauses, and lets the thought linger.

'...Okay.' You look at the desk in front of you. Your laptop's out, and on the screen is a sheet of unfinished notes. But right now? You have something to talk about that's very relevant to your current situation. 'What about Kyubey?'

'Kyubey? What about Kyubey?' Again, through the link, you feel something. She's tensing up at the mentioning of his name.

'I asked him about the average life expectancy of a magical girl the other day.' You say. 'Do you think he might be hiding anything else?'

She tenses up further. 'I...he...yes.'

That's the first time she's ever hesitated to say anything. '...Are you willing to tell me?'

'You will have to figure that out on your own, Sayaka Miki.'

You make a face. 'Fine.'
