SayakaQuest: Trauma is a Thing

IIRC, it was Mami who cracked like an eggshell upon finding out that Magical Girls turn to Witches, not Sayaka.

Not that Sayaka doesn't Witch-out easily of course... I'm just saying that it is Mami that is more known for her breakdown upon learning of Witchification.
They both do.

Remind me again how Episode 7 and 8 went?

Mami breaks immediately. Sayaka goes downhill rapidly.

this is starting to reminded me of that comic, where in a early loop Sayaka took Moemura out for burgers.

Nah, it was about Sayaka noticing that Homura likes her favorite type of hamburger.

At the end you see Sayaka taking Moemura to the restaurant, where Sayaka orders te food since Moemura has never been there before. Moemura really likes the burger and then we get the gut punch of a life time because fuck.

Didn't Sayaka have more problems with the whole lich thing that the witchification? Or am I misremembering?

Yep; Sayaka never found out in canon that MG become Witches, only that MG are liches. We don't know how she'd react to the Witch bombshell- although 'not well' is probably a safe bet.

Yeah. Sayaka is known for her freak-out over the whole "being undead" thing.

I mean... she probably would have reacted just as badly to the Witchification thing...

But in terms of on-screen events and narrative, Mami is known for her reaction in the flashback episode, whereas Sayaka is known for her breakdown over... well... er... honestly I think she managed to set off pretty much all the despair-spiral flags possible at the same time. Being Seyiku is suffering.

School and A Lesson From Homura [35]
OOC: Tell me, how does it feel to be playing a ticking time bomb? One whose psychological state, when it initially starts to crumble, gets exponentially worse when her worldview is shattered and all that she hopes for is completely lost?

And no.

Puella Magi are not telepathic. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

[X] Check your lunch.

You decide to check your...

...

Oh crap, you forgot to grab lunch. "Oh, come on!"

"Did you forget your lunch, Sayaka?" Hitomi asks.

"Yeah! I was in such a rush this morning that I forgot to get it." You sigh. "Augh! I really needed that!" Just as you complain, your stomach growls, and you hold your stomach in pain. "Nnnnnrnggh. I was hungry, too."

"You can have a rice ball that my mom packed." Madoka says, as she raises it.

In no time flat, you grab the ball, shove it into your mouth, and grin like a moron. "Thanks, Madoka!"

She smiles. "Anything to help, Sayaka!"

[X] Talk to...
-[X] Hitomi.

You actually didn't talk to her after the...debacle two days ago.

"So, Hitomi?" You look at her. "You alright?"

"Yes, Sayaka." She says, simply. "I'm fine." She smiles. "Is there something you wanted to ask me?"

"Well...I...uh..." Can't exactly tell her about that. "Are you gonna be doing anything over the next few days?" Real smooth, Sayaka. Liquid smooth.

"Not really." She says. "Why, do you have plans?"
"Hah!" You grin like a moron. "No!"

She sighs, before she puts on a nice smile. "I didn't think you did."

-[X] Madoka.

You poke Madoka's shoulder. "Hey. Heeeeeey."

She turns her head towards you. "Do you want more food?" Madoka asks with an innocent, blank stare on her face.

You blink. "Actually, I'm good for now, but thanks."

She shrugs. "Alright."

-[X] Homura.

'...I see you there.'

'I wasn't trying to hide.' Homura says. 'I was trying to keep my presence as minimal as possible.'

'Well, huh.' Sayaka looked at her. 'Say...you don't look alright.'

'I'm fine.' Homura says quickly. 'But let's cut to the chase. Why are you talking to me?'

'We need to talk. Away from the school. After school. Perhaps somewhere where Kyubey can't hear.' You frown. 'He's hiding something and I don't like it.'

'That's interesting that you would say that.' A third party says. And immediately, you recognize the voice.

I wonder if we'll get to find out what types of insurance the incubators put into the Soul Gems in case a Puella Magi goes rogue.

[x] Think at Kyuubey: There are all kinds of things you don't tell until asked, when we don't know enough to know what to ask.

[X] (At Kyubey) "You didn't mention some things that would have been nice to know before I became a Magical Girl- life expectancy and what my soul gem darkening does to my emotions- and didn't want to tell me something important when I asked about it. Call it a hunch."

Well, certainly this is one way of staying in character for Sayaka.

By which I mean rash, impulsive, suspicious... that sort of thing, y'know?

Antagonizing something which knows vastly more than you; gave you your powers and presumably knows them pretty well... Mm.

Totally ended well in canon.

Yep.

Absolutely.

Perhaps 'antagonizing' is an overly strong word... for now.

Perhaps Sayaka might not know the right, or possibly the wrong, questions yet.

There's nothing wrong with being suspicious of the marshmallow.

Aggressively demanding secrets it doesn't want Madoka to know, because knowing might scare her from contracting...?

Perhaps unwise.

Perhaps. Killing Sayaka is far too easy.

And besides. If you talk to it, that gives it more opportunities to spread misinformation and half truth.

Then what do you suggest? Backing down now will only make matters worse. I figure if we put it in a "can't trust you because of what you are", as opposed to "can't trust you because you keep secrets", it might go over better. Might be wrong, but I don't think Kyubey cares what we think about him personally.

I suggest... Nothing at all.

Throwing a snit fit and ignoring Kyuubey in a fit of childish pique seems reasonable enough for a teenager, even. Sayaka tends to be more expressive, but I don't see it as wildly out of character to ignore someone (or something) for her, either.

(I dislike the idea of talking to Kyuubey, because it is far too easy for Kyuubey to either set Sayaka into a downward spiral, or to feed enough misinformation to satisfy and mislead her. Or put it another way: we want Sayaka suspicious of Kyuubey. Why give it a chance to justify itself?)

I have to disagree. "What you are" matters less than "What you do". We don't trust Kyubey not because he's an emotionless alien, but because he keeps vital information away from us.

I think you misunderstood. I think what he does is more important, too. But... frankly, he's dangerous. We'd draw less hostility from him if we keep it to "What he is", as opposed to "What he does". I'm trying to disengage from the situation without Kyuubey deciding we are a threat to his plans, and need to be dealt with.

There is no conceivable way we could possibly be enough of a threat to his plans to justify him "dealing" with us. The Incubators are multi-planetary, possibly multi-galactic, and we are one single not particularly unusual Magical Girl. Hell, we've already used up our wish.

I seriously doubt he'd consider us a threat to his plan- he persuades Madoka to contract in canon multiple times even after she's found out the truth. Besides, I'm fairly sure he's intending for us to die anyway (Sayaka's the sort of MG who either dies or burns out early, and he definitely knows that).

Let me put it this way: I'm trying to make sure that we're not worth the effort to dispose of. We don't know how much effort that is, so we don't know how low on the radar we need to fly. He wouldn't care much about us dying-he's not capable of caring. Therefore, we need not to give him a reason to kill us.

There. That better?
