SayakaQuest Thread 10: Glory To The Death

Either way, I don't think Homu can put people in her shield. Hm... perhaps we can find a structure to make Akane carry, and fall with her to have her step off our boost platforms to cushion her fall on the way down, and put any civvies we can find on that?

On the bright side, there was a point where Sayaka never experienced the joy of parachuting.

Well, that changed, with extra bits.

Feel like I actually want to step in with a proposal here. No idea just how workable this is, but at least it vaguely resembles a plan. Feel free to make something better.

Impact energy is likely somewhere around 5 megatons at worst (including reducing for air resistance), possibly down around 1 megaton, depending on actual physical size. Still bad, but not world-endingly bad.

Akane has the strength to at least slow it down to a survivable level, but not the leverage to apply that strength.

So, crazy plan:

Timestop and zip around to below the center of Walpurgis city. Participants: Sayaka, Kyouko, Akane, Homura

Sayaka creates a platform for Akane to stand on. Kyouko creates a web of chains to distribute the force against the underside of the city. Akane pushes up on Walpurgis city.

Platforms and chains will likely have to be constantly and repeatedly created as they're broken during the fall. However even a few hundred should still be manageable with the cleanses we have left, letting Homura handle that while Sayaka focuses.

If the city's size is about a half kilometer across, then Akane has to push up with the energy equivalent of about half a kiloton of TNT per second to counteract gravity. Considering her punches can atomize skyscrapers, that seems within the realm of possibility. It's just a matter of whether Sayaka can support her.

It might help if Sayaka can layer the platforms in a flower-like pattern, to help distribute the force they need to support as they progress downward.

Meanwhile, those still topside gather and protect the civilians, as the city is crumbling. Ran's speed should be very helpful in collecting people. Ako might also consider using her sonic powers to pulverize an area of the ground into a soft dust that can help cushion the impact of the fall.

Too bad we don't have two Akanes, as the second one could knock off chunks of the city as the civilians are evacuated from it, lowering the weight of what needs to be supported. Though if the city continues to collapse, that may be redundant.

Simplified vote:

[x] Sayaka, Kyouko, Akane, Homura gather underneath the city to counter its fall using Sayaka's platforms and Akane's strength.
[x] The remaining Tokyo girls gather civilians and create a safety area topside.

I'm pretty sure Akane'd just be crushed...
that and that amount of chains and platforms sounds like it would be pretty spendy.

Sounds feasible, but there's a significant risk that the floating city will break apart if its being pushed up from a tiny spot (i.e. Akane), since:
Holes already made in the battle widen as Mitakihara begins to fall back to earth. The Doll's body collapses, reduced to haphazard machinery and metal panels.
With that in mind, can Kyouko's giant spears fly? Or at least float down?

We still have four cleanses left, so that's two seeds. Divide that between Homura and Kyouko, plus any seeds Akane and the Tokyo girls may still have.

IF the giant spears can fly/float, then engage timestop to buy some time to gather the civillians, then have Kyouko summon two or three of the spears. We can then use those to evacuate as many as we can from the city.

Edit:

Where will Akane push the city up against?

Oh, it is, but I don't have any better ideas on how to both keep the captured civilians alive and keep the city on the ground from having a nuke dropped on it. Other ideas welcome.

I tried to address that with having Kyouko's chains as a force distribution web, though I acknowledge it's a bit of a stretch to use them that way.

Ah, flying platforms to help evacuate the civilians? Combining that with Sayaka's platforms (if not doing the Akane defense) could get a lot of people, but it would be difficult. And we'd still be dropping a nuke on old Mitakihara — unless the witch body entirely disintegrates before it hits the ground.

If it does just return to dust, then the Akane defense isn't needed, but the civilian evacuation becomes more difficult.

So, flip a coin: Will the witch's body fade before it hits the ground? That will determine which type of approach to use.

Considering how high we're in the sky, is highly probable that the witch is disintegrating. In fact, the witch is dead now.

It will be disintegrating anyway.

Are Kyouko's chains that strong? Like enough to support a few thousand tons of soil, pavement, and collapsed buildings? I don't think so.

So, flip a coin: Will the witch's body fade before it hits the ground?

Yes.

The entire thing was not only floating but also held together by the witch' magic. Which is now gone.

And again, how is Akane exactly going to slow down the city's decent? Her strength's worthless since she'd need to push or pull against something, so she'd either need a really strong flight ability or a floating platform that has enough lift to counteract the city's weight.

And us, but the alternative's failure on a scale that's going to have ugly consquences.

Actually, you can add something to that plan. We could break off a large chunk of the city, just large enough to contain everyone all or most of the civillians, then push that up instead and let the rest fall away. That way, we now have a much less heavier weight to carry, and it would have a lesser chance of breaking apart.

[X] Find a nearby building of reasonable size. You'll need to be able to stop it from being destroyed using nothing but Akane, chains and platforms.
[X] Using timestop as much as is safe (leave a few cleanses to help save the building), have everyone gather every civilian they can find and toss them in the building.

I'm sorry but that other vote is such a horrific overreach and is going to get almost everyone killed.

...you know, that 60 second estimate doesn't account for Terminal Velocity. Now, actually calculating that would be a nightmare, but regardless we have a tiny bit longer than 60 seconds.

...if I had to estimate, terminal velocity will buy us about 15 seconds.

That works, I guess.

It's about a billion tons of concrete, metal and asphalt disintegrating and crashing down on the order of hundreds of meters per second. We can't do much to even slow it, let alone stop it. It'd be best to just save whoever we can.
