Looks like 23 to 21 with turning down Sertorius' offer in the lead, Mortenkam's vote seems to be counted separately for some reason.
You can press manage votes button and manually put it with the others to make the tally look nicer. Also, you probably have "newest votes" not marked, so a couple of votes got counted twice.

Inserted tally

That looks better, still figuring out the forum it seems, thanks for the tip.

What exactly is the plan if we Refuse Sertorius' offer?

Resign from the 6th Legion and stay in Rome? To do what? With which faction?

Stay with the 6th Legion, whether it ends up being sent to Gaul, Germany, Africa, or Italy?

Not going to Spain has a slim lead, but what exactly are people hoping to get out of it?

Well, the only reason I could see, personally, is gambling on 6th being sent somewhere close enough to Rome to still have some pull on events there, and try to push for implementing concessions we promised to Pentri.

Otoh we might well be sent to garrison something like Africa or whatever, so it is in fact a gamble.

I think they are betting on siding with Optimates and thus siding with Scaevola and eventually Sulla? Sertorius route makes Optimate path kinda....hard.

I really hope that isn't it, because passing up on the benefits of Spain like the skilled mentor and legions remembering the legacy of our father for an uncertain future in the vague hopes of "maybe we'll get a cushy job distant enough from Rome to not get impacted by the civil war yet close enough to influence it" strikes me as a particularly foolhardy plan.

Egypt wasn't a part of the Roman Empire in 85 BC. It only became a Roman province in 30 BC.
Maybe we could talk them into it? Convincing them that Rome conquering them within a lifetime is inevetable but if they willingly join now they can get great concessions would be pretty hype. Would also get Atellus a hell of a rep to talk a land into joining Rome with mere words.

So how exactly will the plans deal with these two potential scenarios?

You bring up the matter of your Tribunate and dedicated service to the Sixth, but he waves his hand as if to dismiss the thoughts. He will push to have the Sixth assigned as his army in Hispania-- and if they are not, well, there are favors he may call in to have your tribunate dismissed.

If your tribunate is not up, you may be reassigned to a province or another legion, or, more likely, your tribunate is just over early.

I mean, if we refuse Sertorius's offer, it looks like the most likely outcome is that we will have our Tribunate dismissed, as it doesn't seem to me like we will get to stay with the VI unless we choose to go with Sertorius, which would leave us either reassigned to a whole new Legion, or without our Tribunate in general.

It sounds like he'd have to ask for the 6th to come with him, if he doesn't bother (and just sticks with the legions that already love him back in Hispania) we'll go wherever the 6th goes.

Unless he has our Tribunate dismissed, as was said to be a possibility in the update. I think it should be noted that the most likely option here is that our Tribunate will be dismissed as that has been brought up multiple times by Telamon.

Having our tribune dismissed refers to if we accept his offer and he fails to get the Sixth sent to Hispania with him.

Ahh, I see. Still, I'm still waffling on whether to go with Sertorius or not, as I don't think Scaevola is long for this world in any scenario, and that is the main reason I changed my vote earlier, loyalty to him as a Patron.

Yeah, there isn't really a strict plan after turning down Sertorius, as we have no way of knowing where we'll be going. The idea is to not pick a side until we know who is likely to win and hope we're in a position to come out ahead. Some people are hoping to be stationed near Rome, which would be pretty cool, but the odds of that are unknown. We'd essentially be leaving things up to chance, which I sort of went over in another post. Whether or not you want to gamble without knowing the odds is personal preference.

Going with Sertorius is risky for it's own reasons, but it gives us a chance to prepare for the results of the civil war, while refusing him has us playing it by the ear and making the best out of the whatever hand we're dealt. Refusing him is a reactive choice, while accepting his offer is more proactive. I prefer acting to reacting, but, again, that's just personal preference.

That's actually a good question, I don't really know enough about Roman culture to give you an answer though. What exactly is the next step if our Tribunate gets dismissed? I was under the impression we had to serve a certain amount of time in the army to get a political position, or is that not the case?

I'm personally voting for it because I have more attachment to Atellus' relationship with Sertorius than his one with Scaevola. I also find earning glory in Hispania and being a loyal subordinate to Sertorius to be more interesting than trying to straddle the line in Rome. So for me, it is personal tastes in that I would much rather partake in a quest where we play as Sertorius' protegee than Scaevola's protegee.

I would also like to mention that your second Telamon quote was in reference to someone asking what would happen if our legion was dismissed in regards to the laws about soldiers not being allowed in Rome rather than anything

That does sound more appealing in that it does at least give us a plausible roadmap to go ahead with. The thing is, I'm just leery of burning bridges with Scaevola, as I think that if worst comes to worst we could always use him to help protect us if Sulla wins, assuming Scaevola isn't killed beforehand.

Well, I personally am for staying with the Legion, but from there things are rather dependent on what actually happens with it, and who will command it. If it stays near Rome, then we need to keep the hand on the pulse of a civil war and build connections in the City, while still keeping to our duties as tribune and most preferably expanding our influence in the legion. If get send away, than it's a bit of Spain without going to Spain - we are relatively safe from vipers' nest of Rome, if without a powerful patron with us. There we can concentrate on making the legion our power base, plus building some connections in whatever province we get sent too. However, all of that is interconnected with who will actually get the command over the legion - how important of Marian he is, how connected is he to the Marian cause, how competent he is in running the legion, and how decent of a man he is? All that would change our relationship with our nominal commander, and therefore our relation with the legion and Rome.

Also, other than Rome or province, a third possibility exists - Marius fights Mithridates (note: I find it a bit funny that supposed "last breath of free Asia" as it was called in one of the updates, is actually only the First of Mithridatic wars. A rather long breath, that was), wins, but suffers casualties heavy enough that he requests the VI as reinforcements. There we would really have a chance to affect the civil war.

I guess Mithridates could also just straight up win against everyone and invade Greece again. Now that would be a funny way for history to go.

One of these possibilities is so disturbingly close to what the rolls have planned for y'all that I think you might be precognitive.

And no, obviously I'm not going to tell you which one.

And yes, obviously I might be lying. :V

The vote to go with Sertorius has us speaking to Scaevola for that very reason. I figured Atellus owed it Sertorius to explain his decision, maybe promote a sort of understanding. There's no guarantee that he won't be pissed, but an attempt is being made by Atellus.

I figured Atellus would want speak to Scaevola. Let him hear the news from us, explain how we're following in our father's footsteps, thank him for the help he's given us, etc, etc. Maybe not pour gasoline all over that bridge by talking to him instead of riding out the front gate flipping him the bird.

I understand that, I just don't think that us speaking to him would be enough for him to forgive us for essentially abandoning him for another patron in the form of Sertorius.
