Mind the Gap - (Worm CYOA/SI x Touhou)

Hmm. I expected this outcome, but not the method SI-kari used to go about it. Seems a little crude to just brute-force servitude like that when she has so many options to coerce/terrify him into obedience. Still, if it's in service of a bigger plan, I suppose I could see her resisting the urge to play with her food and go straight for the proverbial kill.

Well I think we can very safely say that the SI is not running on a purely human mentality any more.
Correct. I plan to have a Lisa interlude at some point (maybe soon, maybe later) with her noticing the same. Much to her increasing horror.

It's "in service to their plan" in that the SI is not fond of Coil, and doesn't want to have to deal with him constantly trying to backstab them.

Many of the conceptual borders that could theoretically force obedience would tend to break minds capable of thought. It'd be one thing to force obedience from a dog or other animal where one could twist their perceptions of family and such.

It's another thing to apply those same borders to someone that thinks of you as an enemy and is capable of conscious thought.

And her Shard going bugnuts from all the data, particulary if she sees Coil after Yukari is done with him.

Not human.
Morals only partially resembling that of humans.
Does not feel instinctual need to conform to human social norms.
Does not feel threatened by humans or Capes.
Primary goal is preventing boredom short/long-term.
Considers humans fodder for entertainment.
Practiced powers on Coil for own amusement.
Powers can alter mind and body freely.
Knows you are figuring this out.
Is thinking about what she might do to the Undersiders/you for own amusement.

Lisa: "Oh **** me."

My guess prior to this chapter was that she'd use various dream//reality, past//future, truth//lies, and so on boundary manipulations to drive Coil mad, then reconstruct his psyche with delusions//sanity and whip that into obedience.

What actually happened is... cutting out the middleman, to be sure.

That would be far neater, and result in a much more use-able servant. Alas, SI-Yukari didn't want to have to work hard to make him retain his sanity, so just came up with a way to brute force what they wanted at least.

At this point Coil is just a near-mindless puppet, capable of little more than what you tell him to do. Literally just a thrall. The main reason he's not completely useless is that he still has his memories, so the SI's gonna hand him to Lisa to get all his money/accounts/everything in order.

Lisa will have to work with a very very strong reminder as to why she should avoid angering SI-Yukari, even if she's actually one of the few people in a position to get away with some of her normal trolling.

I'm glad this fic is back. I really like the direction it's heading in, though i do hope more character interaction can be included - It's quite interesting to see how the SI plays off of established characters in this fic.

No one asked but is SI-Yukari Asian? If she isn't it will be weird with her obvious Japanese name... If she is Asian then people with great prejudice will say she is a new ABB cape, they already did something similar in canon after all.
Or they can just say its a kind of unique cape name?

Considered that SI is more or less Yukari, no she isn't Asian, at least I think she isn't. I mean kinda hard to tell with touhou's drawing style and Japanese anime in general (yes I know it isn't a anime). Judging from her hair color and first appearance outfit i say she is a European with a hint of Asian.

There are the Borders between love/hate, friend/enemy, faithfulness/unfaithfulness and loyalty/disloyalty.
Of course, you need to calibrate things the right way, if you want an high functional loyal minion that isn't also creepy and annoying.

That said, if she think that having Coil as her minion in the long term isn't worth it, i can understand why she used the brute force method.

Now that's what I call a good idea... perhaps she can bring the Scarlet Mansion? Or any one of the touhou cast in Brockton. Damn that would be fun.
Actually I was thinking that she kickstarts the local mystical environment without having to import from Gensokyo.

Though if she zaps Lisa, I hope the result is something other then a kitsune (too overdone). Though Taylor would would make a fine tsuchigumo.

But since they are in the west, why not western mystical creatures? I don't really know if they exist in the touhou universe though...
You know when mystical eastern creatures appearing in brockton bay and there is the ABB there, you can guess what will happen, what was left of the neutral asian population will jump at the ABB.

Perhaps Wendigo from the native American folklore? If there is a version in Touhou you can expect it to be a beautiful pale young girl with an impossible hair color and capable of flying and firepower that will make a hydrogen bomb jealous.

Remi's pet chupacabra confirms that there are western mythical creatures. Heck, Remi and Flan are western-style vampires themselves, though they share similar characteristics to oni.

Actually....
That might just be lethal to Yukari.

Worm is, by WoG, inside a subset dimensional branch of the multiverse where magic/psionics/souls/afterlife/etc, DOES NOT EXIST. Period. Full stop.

The only 'fantasy' within that subset of dimensions, is Yukari herself.

Manipulation of that border would affect her directly, to the point of reality warping herself. She'd literally be required to injure herself to provide the materials needed as a 'seed corn' for any fantasy/magic/etc to grow around, via altering that amount's border. Or she'd risk warping her entire self, possibly fatally.

The smart choice would be the classic blood sacrifice/cut a lock of hair off, and use the residual traces of magic there, to jumpstart things. Then manipulate her border from injured to healed. It'd be far slower a start, but it'd work the same in the end.

The downside though is that because Worm is so massively biased towards 'It Must Be Science!!!!!', and nobody will believe otherwise, is that if any yokai are formed, they'll damn near be starving immediately as they live off human fears, emotions, dreams, etc, that are based around whatever the yokai stands for. Since nobody believes, they'll be ravenously hungry/desperate in needing to get humanity to believe in them. And the 100% best way for a yokai to achieve this, is by scaring a human to death and/or eating them (usually starting while said human is still alive, and thus, mortally terrified).

Those in Gensokyo don't NEED to do this, as the human villagers are all too well aware that they do exist, and need to fear the/believe in the yokai. Its just that a few of the yokai still do it for sport (Rumia), or their very nature requires it (Remilia & Flandre).

Seriously, if you scratch the surface of Gensokyo, even slightly, you'll see its TERRIFYING underneath. Straight outta 40k+Cenobites levels of pants wettingly bad.

The reason I mention this? In Touhou, the very existence of magic/fantasy, CREATES new yokai. Yukari won't even have to raise a finger for them to start forming. The moment she brings magic/fantasy into Worm, Earth Bet, that isn't from her direct manipulation of borders, and things instantly are out of her hands forever.

Edit: Yukari might be able to bring over anyone who's existence does not require magic to sustain themselves. Such as any/all of the humans or near human sub-species:

Beyond that, its risky, at best, for her to gap anyone over. In fact, it might be fatal. Yuyuko would be a divide by zero case, and instantly cease to exist upon crossing the gap. Same goes for Shikieiki or any of the goddesses.

Even Kasen is iffy, considering its a near certainty that she's an oni in hiding. Same goes for Alice, as, while originally she was human (maybe...considering who her mother is), now as a magician, a yokai, she requires magic/presence of magic to sustain herself.

Tewi certainly wouldn't live being effectively a manifested luck spirit, although Reisen might barely qualify as 'near' human, considering she doesn't NEED magic/faith/etc to exist.

I'm expecting SI Yukari to begin her shipping soon, because what else is a nigh omnipotent SI gunna do?
I would imagine it goes something like this

*Taylor and Lisa are dropped in a room*
Yukari: You two are now lovers, have fun
Lisa: that's not how it works!
Taylor: umm what?
Yukari: border between friends and lovers.
*kinky sex time happens*
