Mind the Gap - (Worm CYOA/SI x Touhou)

Most of the fanbase is to the east, unfortunately. Touhou is pretty niche in an already niche genre (i.e. bullet-hell games).
Yep there is still a boatload of doujin content being produced in the east, sadly i can't read moonrunes and while translated manga are well and good nothing goes over a nicely written several ten thousand words long fanfic and those are pretty rare.

The entire mental package that Ran has came with her station as a Shikigami, PmiSS describes the process of turning someone into a Shikigami as installing and Yukari compares shikigami to computers.
So the supercomputer thing is likely very literal. And since Ran is described as doing Yukaris chores regarding the barrier its likely that she gets some part of Yukaris powers to be able to monitor and troubleshoot said barrier.
So the only limiting factor here is if the SI knows or can acquire the process of turning someone into a Shikigami and then finding someone who would be willing to basically become a slave in exchange for massively increased thinking power and potential gaphax.

I know of a decently-sized touhou fanfic over at fanfiction.net
FREAKIN' GENSOKYO
It's not too big, jusst a bit over 1 Million words.

Anyway: Yay, this story isn't dead (anymore)!

Ummm....

You DO know they released the first volume of Forbidden Scrollery, the manga, legally over here in the States last month. Right?

https://m.barnesandnoble.com/w/forbidden-scrollery-vol-1-moe-harukawa/1126313073

Vol.2 comes out in February & Vol.3 in May, iirc.

I think C4d is complaining about the lack of good lengthy Touhou English fanfics, not about the lack of official Touhou content in the west.

Heck, the next game's coming out on Steam.

Looking back at all the other comments,
Yukari can basically be considered as Doormaker 2.0 Plus Platinum Deluxe
Even that much is only one of her main powers. She's a lot more overpowered than that.

(It helps a lot in Touhou/Gensokyo, where just about everyone is S-class or higher by Worm standards. Wriggle Nightbug, who basically has Skitter's power, is one of the weakest characters...

I think Ran's article in PMiSS mentions that as long as a shikigami acts under the order of their master they also possess the master's power, which could be fun.

Over on QQ, in the NSFW Creative Writing forum. We can't link it here directly, because of the adult content though.
Does that still apply when the stuff is behind a login wall, which if memory serves the entire nsfw section is?

To put it mildly.

Literally the ONLY two reasons that Yukari doesn't go GodModeSue in canon, is 1. It tires her out something fierce to even do what she currently does, to the point she'll sleep 12+ hours a day, and...

2. Its boring as hell for her.

And its mostly #2 as the reason, considering there have been times where she has been active for days/weeks straight (pre-Hakurei Lunar Incident) with little rest, likely via using her boundary manipulation to alter the line between tired/sleepy and energetic/awake on herself. Never confirmed though.

Its the onset of ennui that is the driving reason why Yukari acts out the Mastermind plot role in Gensokyo.

If she really, really, wanted someone beyond dead, they'd be dead. And even Reimu wouldn't be able to stop her. To be blunt on this: Yukari's powers work perfectly fine, in the Netherworld, in Heaven, and beyond the Sanzu River. She is that utterly broken power wise.

And there are tons and TONS of Youkai or other non-humans in Gensokyo that would be considering just one step below her. Tons.

Even the low end 'mooks' are terrifyingly powerful. Cirno took on Utsuho, at the core of Old Hell's reactor....and won. A being that controls, shapes, and can ex nihilio create fusion reactions in the form of micro-stars, ad infinitum, was beat down by an 'ice' fairy. Although, depending on your calcs, said 'ice' fairy might actually be able to locally manipulate entropy itself into manifesting as drastic temperature drops down to, potentially, absolute zero.

I mentioned Sakuya a few pages back, and, for all she is my favorite character, she's low to mid tier at best.

A time-stopper, tesseract creation/manipulation flying assassin....

Is LOW to MID tier only.

There are extremely good reasons why some view Gensokyo as a self-contained deathworld right on par with 40k's Cadia....if not worse. (Case in point: Never fuck with Yuuka Kazami's sunflowers. EVER)

I'd argue that she's upper mid tier and the only reason she isn't higher is because I don't see her actually having any way to deal with the actually high tier threats. She'd crush anyone that's on her level or below provided she isn't beat by someone like Aya speed blitzing her.

Though this gets into the problem Touhou has with power levels, everything is bullshit so any tier list made would have exceptions like crazy.

And the great joy about Touhou is the fact that power levels are absurd and Zun said that Gensokyo is the place where ordinary and weak supernatural beings gathers. Gensokyo is just like the first half of a Megami Tensei game, there are more crazy scary things around that Zun doesn't put in the games because they destroy any form of game balance.

Where do you guys get all this touhou knowledge?
Happy to see some more OP worm characters though, hope you keep updating :D

That is correct ive read pretty much all of the official material that has been translated so far in some form or another.
I also bought HSiFS despite the fact that im rather terrible at danmaku in general.

Ive even trawled through a lot of writing on ffn and aooo and for some of that stuff it literally hurt to read even the first chapter.

For ease of access mostly the touhou wiki and as an extension of that the quoted sources on the pages there if you can get them somewhere.

The power levels in Touhou are kind of crazy, yeah. Which is why the entire point of their approved combat system is not about showing off your power levels, but rather your creativity. The art is not in designing an attack that your opponent can't dodge - that's easy enough that if everybody were doing it there would not be a Gensokyo left to fight over in short order if any of the major players went looking for trouble (and, being youkai, looking for trouble is a significant portion of their reason for existing). Rather, the idea is to design an attack that is avoidable (but not easily so), artistic (as in, admirably pretty to an outside observer), and thematic in some way to the user or their powerset.

Of course, Brockton Bay has the issue that there's nobody around to actually enforce that ruleset.

That being said, the number people stronger than Yukari can be counted on one hand. The only character so far who has been confirmed to be stronger than her (along with the rest of Gensokyo and the moon) is Hecatia Lapislazuli, goddess of Hell, according to ZUN himself.

you should be pretty careful about taking any power levels from fights shown in the games, since danmaku are explicitly for making it so that anyone can beat anyone else (in theory). their fighting is not really fighting to your limit.

That was in one of the Fighting Games (Touhou Hisoutensoku), so no danmaku.

Also of note is that it was one of those fights where no matter how well you do, the dialogue is less "Cirno beat Utsuho" and more "Cirno fought off Utsuho until she got an opportunity to run away, and Utsuho being too much of a Bird Brain to chase after her."

Armsmaster's bike turned and skidded to a stop a few meters away from us, and I internally snorted at wondering how often he did that, since he made the same entrance last time, too.

The halberd wielding hero stepped off, his head turning to survey the scene. After a moment, he turned to us. He seemed to regard Taylor for a moment, before turning to me.

"Yukari Yakumo," he said to me. "I had received reports of Lung fighting in the area. Is he still present?"

Well, might as well play dumb a bit. I gave a light shrug. "I assume you mean the man who turned into a silver-scaled beast?"

"Yes, and the leader of one of the gangs here in Brockton Bay."

Oh wow, he really is assuming I don't know anything. I'd be annoyed, but that's kind of what I was aiming for.

"Well, I was wandering around, and came across him trying to murder this girl here," I said as I motioned to the bug controller next to me. "So I sent him away."

"What do you mean, you sent him away?"

"Well, I had heard that he used the fight to get stronger, so I ended the fight by moving him elsewhere." I gave a wave of my hand off in the direction I sent him. "A little bit that way, he'll likely be back tomorrow."

I saw Armsmaster's grip on his halberd tighten. "You very likely made an enemy of him, then. Lung is not one to tolerate interference."

Oh gods is he really doing this?

Armsmaster continued. "Your rash actions have put yourself, and other civilians, in danger. I would strongly suggest that you join the Protectorate, where you and your friend, could receive proper training and guidance, as well as safety. Solo heroes don't last long by themselves."

Okay, now I was annoyed. "No," I replied as I crossed my arms.

"Why?" Ever the diplomat.

"Well, as I told you before, I'm not a hero, nor a villain. Really, the only reason I intervened was to help the girl here." Said girl was now turning her head between us, as if not sure what was going on anymore. "Furthermore, I am unconcerned with Lung, as there's very little he or his gang can do to bother me."

The hero practically bristled. "Lung is one of the strongest parahuman on the east coast, and he has other parahumans as part of his gang," he protested.

"Let me show you what I think of that," I said. He tensed, and was bringing the top of his halberd to bear, but he was a touch too slow. A gap appeared below him and his motorbike, and they fell to a concrete floor a few feet below with a loud crash, the gap closing behind them.

I opened a smaller gap, and shouted to Armsmaster as he was rising from the ground.

"Next time, send someone else to do the talking. Maybe Miss Militia." I closed the portal before he could respond.

I sighed to myself. Really, the nerve of some people…

Beside me, Taylor spoke up. "What the hell did you just do?!"

A/N just a short chapter phone-typed while I'm stuck at relatives.
