Sorry for the double post, but I was just thinking about something just now.
So, there are 365.2425 days in a Gregorian Year (the average length of a year in a 400 year cycle). If we use it as the year that the Year Fractions were derived from (which is pretty easy considering the other years all rely on astrological bodies that slowly change over time)...
...you know what? No.
Way too much Math and assuming will be involved, so I'm gonna just believe that when humanity first went into the stars to colonize the endless void, they simply marked the Millennium and set the Imperial Calender to 0 000 000.M3...or something.
This does mean that we have a very unique opportunity here folks. Let's reset the Calendar, or at least have a new one that runs alongside our current one.
0 000 000.M1E (First Millennium of the Exodus)
For three simple reasons:
1) Allows us to keep better track of the time and helps our Record Keeping (mostly OOC) much easier.
2) Marks the moment when we made First Contact with the residents of this new Universe or when the Emperor disclosed the Truth of Souls and the Warp to the High Lords. Those are kinda momentous events ya know.
3) Makes it easier to cross-reference our dates with the Terran's own, therefore meetings and the such can be better scheduled. It's the one thing I now can't quite understand in the previous update, with Raynor and Malcador setting up a meeting for the next month when the Imperial Calender has no months represented on it. The only saving grace is that the Year's length seems the same...which kinda doesn't make sense but there you go. Unless of course the Ghosts helped us all out by mentioning the current date and stuff.
==========================================
Edit:
Okay, so looked at the year length again, basically each Year Fraction (0.1% of a year) is equal to 8.76582 hours using the Gregorian Calender...IF it is based on it.
If that's the case, each unit is based off of a good night's sleep of an average Imperial Citizen.
-______________-;
Humanity ladies and gentlemen, our unit of time is based on the average time we need to sleep well. Current calculation of our exact date coming up...at some point.
==========================================
Edit 2:
Back. The current Imperial Date as of last turn (March 2501) is [0 332 501.M3]!
And also, the calendar is indeed derived from the Gregorian Calendar.
6 months have passed since we entered this Universe on [0 832 500.M3], Oct. 2500. Half a year.
So:
(-) 8765.82 hrs x 50% of a year
Then:
(-) 4382.91 hrs / 8.76582 hrs
Therefore:
(-) 500 units have passed since we first appeared in SC. Half a year according to the Imperial Dating System.
I'm not going to lie, this was cool figuring it all out. Also, I've just realized I took the long way around. Short cut is coming up soonish.
==========================================
Edit 3:
Short form found, well two versions anyways.
First one, accurate:
- ((Hours + (Days x 24) + ((Number of Months - 1) x 730.485)) / 8.76582
Lots of decimals to be expected using this one I'm afraid.
Second one, using the Months only: - (Number of Months x 730.485) / 8.76582
Unfortunately, it's been a span since I've last done Mathematics, so my notation is super sloppy, so I apologize for that.
==========================================
Edit 4:
Last edit, I swear. I just calculated my date of birth according to the Imperial Calendar =3
Year fractions (and years) are to the best of my understanding based on Earth years, so everything seems fine. As a side note, year fraction aren't used too much outside very official paperwork of Administratum, not so much in common use.
Point, however, I chose Class 0 because:
1) In Game dates are written as such, so calculating the In Game dates meant I should follow suit unless Torr says otherwise.
2) The personal calculation is based on an event (not capital 'E', I'm not that vain) that happened on Terra within the Sol System, which WH40K has all but confirmed to being Earth, considering Mars and Titan.

You are the Emperor, Adam Kadmon, one of the greatest warriors and generals that mankind has ever produced. And even you think that the reorganization of the Imperial Military took far less time than you thought it would, though you suppose that having less than a million troops will account for that. The integration of the various arms goes smoothly, and by the end of the month everything has been set. Though there are still many more things to do to get Command functioning at maximum efficiency, the command structure was put into place as you worked on other things and recovered your psychic might. (The Emperor's Psyker Rating: 5 7 (Regain 2 per month till you hit 17))
With the Guard and Tachmata Omnissiah working together with the Navy and Explorator Fleets to train all of their troops together in the Auxilia, minus specialty and officer roles such as demolition expert or starship captain, you are able to rest easy knowing that your general troops will never be caught off guard. Though you will sacrifice some quality for flexibility, you think that it is a worthy trade-off. Why should your troops be deployed in unfavorable situations when they can just approach it in a better way? All the training in the world will not mean much if you are asking siege specialists to fight in the void.
This way, the vast majority of your troops can be deployed in any which way and where they desire. Now to actually take care of reorganizing the regimental structure... (Imperial Command has been formed, Inquisition has been integrated and now has an easier time leveraging non-Inquisiton military assets, all troops can be deployed without negative modifiers due to combat conditions starting March 2502, specialty training for military assets unlocked, military reorganization part 2 unlocked)
Meanwhile, you have personally been assisting with spin control. Though you agree with your sons that the people cannot know what has happened, you decided that the upper echelons of the Imperium do need to know, at least so that they can prevent you from making a foolish mistake again. Ynnead is not thrilled by your decision, but she lets it go because it is better than the alternative of removing the information from existence altogether.
The actual process of information control went well for the most part, minus a misunderstanding on both your and the High Lord's part, which was quickly averted by Malcador and Corvus. From there on, it was smooth sailing. The High Lords have been informed as to what had happened, the information is contained as well as possible, and you sat down with the High Lords and explained the nature of souls to them, as much as you yourself know. (Scene to be continued in an interlude)
(No morale change, moderate chance of information leak, more info about souls and gods given to High Lords, new line of research into souls available, new line of Warp research available, Imperial Host project unlocked)
For the rest of your month, you spent it working on the dissection and research of the Black Wards gene-seed. The Fabricator General herself looked into it at your order, but she relinquished it to you due to her concerns. What had happened to her intrigued you to no end, and you made an effort to Bulwark yourself before you even went near the gene-seed banks.
Once you do, you make for the Phalanx. The great star fort currently contains a third of all of your gene-seed stock, while the rest is spread out in varying portions on Eden, the Arks, and the Creed of Light. You make sure that the Imperial Fists and crew aboard know that any strange happenings are to be reported to Malcador and your Primarchs immediately as you head down to the apothecarium.
The first of your research sessions was... interesting to say the least. After you overcame the compulsion and memory redirection, a trivial task for any psyker beyond eta class as long as you know that it's there, you set to work. You find that the compulsion and redirection is impossible for a baseline human to overcome, but that there is no need. These gene-seed are not malicious, but they are also derived from the stock of one of your sons. Specifically, they seem to have originally been Second Legion in origin, but someone or something played with the genetics in a way that no mortal, or even immortal, can; which explains why Malcador could not find the gene patterns to match with the Second Legion.
You suspect some sort of intelligent Warp design that caused the gene-seed to mutate, but to what end? There is absolutely no taint of Chaos upon the geneseed, nor can you find any actual evidence of genetic tampering. It is only because you created the gene-seeds in the first place that you are even able to decipher what its origin is. This strangeness is only compounded by the fact that you can already tell that implanting will create a fully functional Space Marine with no abnormalities or specific mutations.
The seed is complete in a way that seems unnatural. Even gene-seed derived from your own body is not as... pure as this one seems to be. And we all know what they say about appearances...
Still though, that leaves you at an impasse. What shall you do with this gene-seed?
[] Destroy it. Better safe than sorry.
[] Find a single aspirant and implant it. You'll find your results soon enough and with little effort. If the gene-seed is as pure as it seems to be, and even if it's not, you can do more with a fully functional Space Marine than with just gene sequences.
[] Continue researching it for now. Though it may take an extraordinary amount of time and effort, this is the safest route of finding out what's what with this gene-seed.
[] Write-in?
You are Corvus Corax, Lord Exodus of the Imperium, and you have spending 30 minutes a day organizing public appearances for Mother in order to help the soldiers get through these strange times, with the universe radically shifting around them. During the weekly masses is the most obvious choice, but it seems that you have miscalculated how much religious fervor Ynnead can inspire during an already relatively intensely emotional event. While it has no doubt bolstered the military men and women's faith and mood, you can see that the impact was not nearly enough. Maybe you should bring this up to Aurora for help... (+1 morale to military for 1 turn)
Colonies and Exodus Fleet
[x] The fleet continues producing food (2.5 WP maintenance and +2.5 million units of food)
[x] Produce civilian goods
-[x] Luxury goods- fleet (.5 WP per turn to raise morale by 1)
[x] Produce materials to create:
-[x] Mechanicus Forge Temple core (3 WP - Enables research projects [1] - Upgradable)
-[x] Mechanicus Forge core (3 WP - Enables ground side manufacturing [bonus to WP] - Upgradable)
Colony Development
[x] Mega hydroponics facility (2 WP, creates 3 million units of food per month)
Eden Status (Facilities, population, etc)
Orbital Shipyard Core (Allows ship repairs and maintenance)
1 Mega hydroponics facility (+3 million food/month)
Housing (1 Million/1 Million/1 Billion+)Note: The population statistic reads as follows- CurrentPop/CurrentMax/PlanetaryMax
Ecological damage and pollution levels negligible
No matter. You set about reviewing the fleet's monthly production schedule and find that the unexpected windfall of food that you receive from the governor has allowed you to allocate more resources for her to use this month. So while the fleet produced 2.5 million units of food, Eden produced an extra 3 million, slowing down the rapid decline of nutripaste stores. Just yesterday though, Governor Castellan has finished and brought online another hydroponics facility, so you are thinking of swapping over the fleet's production fully onto industrial pursuits to maximize efficiency.
Assuming that is all the fleet does next month, you can allocate the rest of the materials and labor that the fleet would otherwise be using to the governor. From what you know of her, you can guess that she'll likely try to bring another hydroponics facility online, as well as build more housing so that a larger population can be supported and more people can be awakened from cyro. On the note of population, the first pregnancies after awakening from cyrosleep have been reported over the month! The sheer joy that Father will exude brings a smile to your face, and you make a mental note to find out the names of the lucky couples for him.
The next thing on your list, are luxury goods for the military personnel. Apparently the fleet has been putting all the extra foodstuffs to good use, making all sorts of strange and actually kind of delicious foods that you scarcely thought were possible with only nutripaste and its various condiments/flavorings, distilled drinks of all sorts, and grox meat. You are highly impressed by their creativity.
Moving on from amusing food related shenanigans, the next thing you review is the progress of the Mechanicus Forge Temple and Forge cores. While the facilities are now online, they are still a far cry from what a fully functional forge on a hive or even a civilized world can produce. Still though, you now have the capability of conducting research projects and ground-side manufacturing. You wonder if you could have a new suit of artificer armor commissioned for yourself, Jaghatai, and Father.
What interesting possibilities there could be with so much more manufacturing potential than what you've had...
Morale involves background rolls on my end to check for heresy, traitors, malcontents, etc.
-10 - -6: Penalties to combat, significant chance of heretics, traitors, etc.
-5 - 0: Moderate chance of heretics, traitors, etc.
1 - 5: Low chance of heretics, traitors, etc.
6 - 10: Bonuses to combat, no chance of heretics, traitors, etc. Civilian morale: 7 Military morale: 4 --> 6
Work force capability is rated using work points or WP. It is an extrapolation of the entirety of the industrial capacity of the fleet, but starts off at 1 WP per million population, can be raised or lowered by various factors, and is rounded to the nearest .5. You have X amount of WP each turn to use and any that you do not use are lost.
WP can be distributed by .5 WP or by project
1 WP per million population (6 mil pop = 6 WP)
Arks Mechanicus + Fabrication machines = 1.2 multiplier on population WP
Eden Forge Core = + 1 WP
Taxation = 1d4 /2 --> 2/2 = 1 Current WP: 9.2 -> rounded down to 9
Currently using Split Focus on the Arks Mechanicus (Capability in focus but the amount of WP available is reduced by 20% 10% for each additional focus you take due to inefficiencies in space management in multi-configurations)
Manufacturing: You are able to produce industrial and war machines for various purposes (WP can be spent per order in order to scale production to its max capacity)
Hydroponics/Aeroponics: You are able to grow your current food stock (each WP gives 1 million units of food)
Effective WP: 8.1 -> rounded down to 8
Food stock is cataloged by units and is used at a rate of 1 per person per month Current Food Stock: 25.5 million units -> - 6 million units + 2.5 million units + 3 million units = 22 million units Projected Food Stock: 22 million units -> - 6 million (Population) + 2.5 million (Fleet production) + 3 million (Eden)
You are sitting upon your throne on Eden, looking over the latest relevant news that Corvus has forwarded onto you. He has categorized all the information for easy access.
There is not much that I can tell you at this juncture, but I can tell you that there are some signs of life in some nearby solar systems. As for whether or not they are inhabited by humans remains to be seen, but there is a good chance that at least some of them are, if the Dominion and Raiders are any indication. I currently would not recommend sending scouts to these locations, but probably uninhabited systems are fair game. We do need the resources, and the men could use missions to keep them busy. While training is important, there is only so much you can learn before you need to do rather than practice.
The debrief provided by Inquisitor van Heppel gave not much more intel than what the Ghosts could tell you, except for one juicy piece of information. The Dominion has been keeping an eye on the Zerg that have been oddly silent compared to the usual buzz of activity that they engage in for the last year and a half. In recent months, however, they have started to become active again, especially with the attack on Sanctuary. Something's going on, and the massive military build up is part of the Dominion's plan to deal with it.
Specifically, the Dominion has been creating a massive military buildup, aiming to field a fleet of 10,000 ships strong, with at least 3000 of them containing weaponry that the Imperium currently has no answer for.
The Yamato cannon.
A devastating particle accelerator that fires active nuclear fusion material at a significant fraction of the speed of light.
The cannon is akin to the Imperial lance battery, if a little less versatile due to stricter charging requirements, and has a significantly larger amount of sheer power due to the active nuclear fusion. The techpriests have fired the recovered Battlecruiser's Yamato cannon at a 7 layered void shield, and the particle beam consistently rips through at least 5 layers at a time. Though that hardly compares to a Nova cannon's warhead that can destroy dozens of ships in a single detonation, it may be possible to upscale the Yamato cannon for Imperial ships. If the scientific principles hold at that scale, an Imperial warship, such as the Creed of Light, would be able to fire a particle beam that can rip through a planet from crust to core in a single 4 second blast.
As it is, the tech priests test fired the cannon and found that not only is it relatively easy to aim at significantly shorter ranges than a Nova cannon, but it also out ranges a lance due to the fact that the particle beam is a self-sustaining nuclear fusion reaction. It will not get significantly weaker until the beam travels more than 4 light seconds, so it can be a devastating attack at a tactical and strategic level.
Fortunately for us, there is a minimum of 5 minutes between Yamato cannon shots on Dominion Battlecruisers that we can take advantage of. Unfortunately, if a ship is under fire from a full barrage of half a dozen of these, it is likely to be destroyed because our ships have no ability to move at a near relativistic speeds without invoking the Warp Drive. Even an Ark, with all of its 12 layers of void shields and adamantium armor would only be able to take a sustained barrage of 15-20 shots before it is rent apart.
It is somewhat scary, how powerful these primitive weapons are, and how well the Terran use the limited scientific knowledge that they have to full effect.

GM's NOTE: Any ideas for hero actions aside from the ones listed? I ran out of steam and wanted to post this, so here you go! Any proposed hero actions I'll add to the list. here
Point, however, I chose Class 0 because:

[] Continue overseeing the educational reforms within the Schola Progenium.
[] Start recruiting for the Scholastica Psykana.

@torrmercury I don't suppose this could be a action by Leona.
[] Begin the process of healing a member of the Nine Sons
-[] Which member
This could be another option if we didn't want to use our intrigue slot for the Ordo Xenos to work on them. I figured she'd be the next best thing when it comes to healing someone next to Adam or Ynnead.
[x] Plan: More Infrastructure!
-[x] Gene-seed write-in: Research it later; after getting Ynnead incarnated. (Spend energy on researching the Golden Throne, so as to provide better tech for the Warp Beacons.)
-[x] (1/5) Inquisition action
--[x] Ordo Xenos: Allocate resources and expertise to healing the Nine Sons.
-[x] (2/5) Start devoting resources to reviving Eldar, especially since the Empress Herself is to be incarnated soon.
--- Attach Malcador, this sounds like an excellent use of Administration.
-[x] (3/5) Get in contact with Raynor's Raiders. (Mini-turns)
--- Attach Jaghatai, his Fellowship should be high enough.
--[x] Meet in person
---[x] Raider proposed neutral location
-[x] (4/5) Continue working on the Webway Project
--- Attach Corvus, his high Science should help.
--[x] Work on creating paths in the Webway to different places in the Materium.
-[x] (5/5) Finish reorganization of the Adeptus Astronomica for its new duties as keepers of Warp beacons instead of the Astronomicon.
-[x] Aurora: Continue work on the new Soul Binding Ritual.
-[x] Write in: Leona: research Golden Throne w/ Adam.
Finishing Adeptus Astronomica reorganization to deal w/ warp-beacons and having Leona build such a device go well together.
We should finish up the soul-binding ritual.
Webway tech can make colonization much, much easier; Corvus's high science should help that research.
IIRC, we have bonuses is we meet w/ Raynor this turn.
Getting things ready for reincarnating the Eldar is something we need to do; remember we'll get bad stuff happening to our Soul if we don't.
Healing the Nine Sons should give is more Hero actions for subsequent turns.
We know that these geneseeds will stay, we have the time to incarnate Ynnead and the Eldar; being naturally psykers they could help us research the geneseed w/o being affected by it.
EDIT #3: Changed the alternative of continuing to work on the geneseeds to researching the Golden Throne, attached Leona to that so that when we do build Warp Beacon prototypes they are better.
yeah so main priority is food so we can devote our ships to industry and then more industry so we can begin everything else. basically we gotta econ the hell up.

Two more "Mega hydroponics facility" and Eden will be making more than the current consumption. So we can either keep fleet production as it is for the next turn or two and then switch to full WP, or we can switch to full WP and push for increasing food production while absorbing the shortfalls with our stock (we have 22 million food, so we could completely live off them until we get all the food-production up).
Okay, here's my first attempt. (eep!) I may change a few points if someone has better suggestions.
Plan Safe Progress v1
[X] WRITE-IN: Shelve the geneseed under high security for research later. Focus on incarnating Ynnead instead.
~ I like Shark8's idea here. Because it's not Chaos-corrupted, and we have more important things to do.
HIGH LORDS:
[X] Reorganize Imperial Military part 2: Imperial Command - Cement leadership, polish inter-branch protocols, create new training regimes.
~ Let's get our military up to speed, now that we've met some more local threats.
[X] Provide economic incentives for new growth. (Increases chance for greater Work Point returns per month - currently at 1d4 /2 per month)
~ Waffled between this and the Webway, but I'd really like to get our unfortunately small civilization into better health.
[X] Get in contact with the Dominion. (Mini-turns)
-[X] Remote communication
--[X] ATTACH HERO: Malcador
~ I'm pretty scared of the Dominion. We need to keep them at bay through diplomacy of some sort until we're stronger; Malcador's skills should help with that. However, I'm not sure we want to contact them yet or not. Thoughts?
[X] Get in contact with Raynor's Raiders. (Mini-turns)
-[X] Meet in person
--[X] Raider proposed neutral location
~ I'm not sure if we should meet them or get in remote contact. I also might attach Corvus, since he and Raynor get along. Thoughts?
[X] Start devoting resources to reviving Eldar, especially since the Empress Herself is to be incarnated soon.
~ It's only right.
HEROES:
[X] Aurora: Continue work on the new Soul Binding Ritual.
~ Kinda going with my gut here, but it seems like something that should be finished.
[X] Leona: Research
-[X] A Warp Beacon Prototype
~ Again, Shark8 has a good idea there. Better interstellar navigation can only be a good thing.
I do feel that getting into contact with the Dominion right now might be the best option. We just made a rather big entrance into their galaxy and clearly have a lot to offer. Best to get it out of the way before their diplomats have too much time to analyse and create plans of diplomatic attack against our interests. Odds are though that we are gonna need to send someone over to Khorhal to really get our point across.
Also, when talking to Jim, we need his help with getting Missionaries around to other corners of the Sector. Gotta start spreading the word and I rather have our missionaries move around using Dominion ships.

Good point re: the Dominion. Strike while the iron is hot and all that.
I'm not quite sure what you're saying about spreading missionaries? Did you mean "rather not" depend on Dominion ships? But either way, I don't think we want to get into that quite yet-- Malcador kept the Imperium's state as a theocracy quiet during the first talks for a really good reason. That alone might be enough to turn Raynor against us. We'll certainly want to send missionaries out relatively soon, but with caution.
[x] Plan: Spread the Faith, Like Peanut Butter!

-[x] (5/5) Start recruiting for the Scholastica Psykana.
-[x] Aurora: Attach to (5/5) -- the high Faith, Inspiration, Fellowship, and Psyker Rating (as a Living Saint) should all combine synergisticly to draw people to the school.
-[x] Corvus: Attach to (2/5) -- As mentioned, Raynor and Corvus hit it off well.
-[x] Jaghatai: Attach to (3/5) -- the Spirits Touched trait could be useful in targeting those who are more recptive.
-[x] Leona: Attach to (4/5) -- Who better to provide tech as economic incentives than the Fabricator General?
-[x] Malcador: Attach to (1/5) -- Malcador did phenomenally w/ the Dominion, plus with his Staff he can beat back any funny business.
Yeah it was a "rather not" in regards to Dominion ships. However our current means of sending out missionaries in a rather subtle fashion might have to be through Raynor unless we can get some other means of doing so. Sending in our ships would cause a ruckus and I don't trust the Dominion at all to not attempt something. The Missionaries don't have to try and convert anyone on Jim's ship, the people involved in the Missionaries tend to be very zealous yes, but they are also quite aware of the fact that they are moving into a culture that does not care for them. They are not going to try and stir shit up, even with people that are friendly to them.
There is however another option, perhaps a better one...we could ask Raynor to put us into contact with some smugglers/transporters who understand the idea of discretion and client privacy. We pay them in whatever resource is good for them, they transport our guys around with no questions ask, and everyone continues on their marry way.
By the time a lot more formal arrangements have been made, we could have a few missionaries out and about beginning to spread the Good Word on the outer rim colonies.
Hmmm, I was about to say that smugglers could open up a whole new can of worms-- if push came to the Dominion shoving, I doubt they'd keep their mouths shut-- but on the other hand, what would they actually know that couldn't be deduced by anyone with a brain? Something to consider for the next turn, maybe.
I'm also just really concerned about keeping on Jim's good side, besides the obvious potential help against the Dominion if things go bad. I haven't even finished watching Brood Wars (had some days without fast enough internet), but my gosh I love that irreverent little maverick.
GM's NOTE: Any ideas for hero actions aside from the ones listed? I ran out of steam and wanted to post this, so here you go! Any proposed hero actions I'll add to the list. here
