A Regiment at War: A American Civil War Quest

Anyone have thoughts on the observer? It seems weird to be getting this much free info from the guy, then again info can be freely shared or bent to the whims of the neutral party.

Something I think we should note is how it's specifically mentioned in this update how the Confederates are taking Yates seriously, and we've been dancing with B for a while now. They probably have a pretty good read on our tactics, so I'm leery of trying the same plan that worked so well in Southeast Creek.

first we allow Buford to do as he pleases then move Palmer to support Buford and have prince continue to support sturgis and have sturgis make an all out attack in The centre and have Wilcox support sturgis as well and we will break them in the centre meanwhile 17k against 20k and we have Gatling guns as well as sharpshooters and repeating rifles to make up the difference and we have a defending advantage so we will be fine.

So what y'all think?

[X]Plan: Break them in the centre

[X]Allow Buford freedom of operation, allowing him to make the best choice as he sees fit?
[X]Have Meade pull Palmer's Division (~4,000) north immediately and support Buford?
-[X] Keep Prince's Division (~4,000) supporting Sturgis?
[X] Commit to the attack and send in everything he has to try and break the Confederate lines?
[X] Continue with the attack full in, having Geary and Nagle supporting Sturgis as he goes in?

Buford knows his situation better than we do so give him free rein to decide whether he thinks he can hold or fall back and send Palmer to reinforce Buford regardless what he decides so with 17k vs 20k we also can't forget we have sharpshooters and repeating rifles as well as Gatling guns and they are a force multiplier so I am very confident we can hold them while we exploit the center.

We push the centre hard with an all out attack with sturgis being supported by prince Geary and nagle and we will break them in the centre.
We put the work in to set up the centre for a breakthrough by concentrating 5 divisions to attacking it we will break it.

Sorry for the the edits I'm on the phone.

Honestly I find it interesting. The Prussians are interested in warfare so it makes sense theyd observe something like this, but as for the info, well... its not their war. Unlike France or England the Germans have no stake in the war, so I doubt he'd feel conflicted talking to us. That being said, he also probably wouldn't hesitate to talk to the reb's as well. Always interesting to get an outside perspective though

He is actually a OTL person who spent time with Lee's Army, even wrote a book about it!

I want to tell Palmer to dig in so we have a stronger line of defense, but I'm not actually sure how much progress they'd make in the time Buford would buy them. It might be a better use of their time to simply send them into the fighting immediately.

Its a variable time for sure, but you can be rest assured they will do whatever it takes to set up defenses it means their survival!

Right - give me a bit, folks, I think I've a decent plan in the brew. Essentially, I believe we have take the threat posed by Longstreet more seriously, and don't think we need to commit everything to the main attack due to the amount of time we have and the unlikelihood of a major rebel reserve.

Lemme get home to a computer and I'll crank something out.

[X] Plan: No Needless Gambling
-[X] Allow Buford freedom of operation, allowing him to make the best choice as he sees fit?
-[X] Have Meade order Palmer's Division (~4,000) to dig in facing north in case Buford has to withdraw?
-[X] Have Prince's Division (~4,000) break contact but attack north to stall any Confederate advance?
-[X] Have Naglee halt his assault, while Getty continues with support from the IX Corps?
--[X] Have Naglee extend his lines if Prince is redeployed, though it might be hard to hold against a determined attack?
-[X] Continue with the attack full in, having Geary and Nagle supporting Sturgis as he goes in?

Frankly speaking, folks, it's currently noon and we outnumber the enemy by a meaningful margin. There's no reason to take a huge risk and go all-in on the center when that's largely unnecessary. I'm ever the advocate for aggression, but big risks should accompany big rewards, and frankly, I don't think we need to have Buford bleed for us to win this battle.

Have Prince and Buford play for time while Palmer entrenches, and then fall back to his line once the heat grows too much - that'll see Longstreet's flanking maneuver stymied even if he does have more troops still coming down the road. Meanwhile, pulling Naglee off the offensive weakens it, but we've still enough troops tasked to see it through, and since we just found out what the enemy did with their reserve, it seems unlikely they're in a position to punish a stretched out portion of our line.

Olso did I understand right, that european well prussian generals dont like us and would dismiss our paper on combat?

I think this is a good plan. I'm a bit unsure about Palmer digging in but I think they might expect us to be aggressive. Also, I think maybe later we should push for the army to get engineering equipment, it was an option before and it will most likely come up again like the telegraph.
