A Regiment at War: A American Civil War Quest

Yeah, it's back! :) Glad to see you here again, Skrev.

"Hate being back here. Never truly know what is going on." Sebastian spoke, frustration coming out as he watched what looked like the whole of the IX Corps now hotly engaged as the sun peaked out behind heavy laden clouds, its beams of warm a welcome change.

"Don't be in a rush to get yourself killed General, we need you right where you are." Thomas immediately interpreted before Sebastian could continue, Thomas, giving him a moment to stew before speaking again. Sometimes one had to give the commanding general a few moments to himself to get their thoughts together.
Thank you, Thomas, for speaking for all of us. And I mean all of us here because the last thing we need is Sebastian going off and Leroy Jenkinsing himself to death. :V

Yeah, it was extremely lucky on Sebastian's part that during his last misadventure at the end of the Three Day Siege, he was either killed by the cannonball, and that it happened at a time it didn't seriously compromise the chain of command due to the rebels routing shortly after. Same thing at Racoon Ford - should the bullet have been six inches in another direction, his story would've ended then and there.

Meanwhile, for our current battle, the mystery on the rebel left flank continues to confound us. It's hypothetically possible that a major rebel unit arrived during the night we took to rest and has been kept carefully hidden, but the question is whether we ought to sacrifice a potential moment to split the Confederate lines in order to account for that possibility.

We can shift the sharpshooters in support of buford, that might let him make progress. As for Meade send one division in and use the other to keep the line between Buford and the main army solid and that way we do not have an open flank. If the sharpshooters can generate enough of a thinning effect for Buford to get a peek than that does keep one division fresh to exploit anything we find.

[X] Plan: Playing Things Safe
-[X] Continue pushing where he is, keeping good contact with Meade and masking the army's flank there?
-[X] Order only a Divison forward to support Sturgis, keeping a division tied to Buford in case he needs support?
-[X] Continue to push but wait for Meade and Willcox to deploy to support, allowing for a larger force to engage but giving the Confederates more time?
-[X] Shift the Corps more towards the north, giving Sturgis support but also stretching out the southern line?
-[X] Send them to reinforce General Buford's Corps?

Right, this is my attempt to make a plan of attack that doesn't leave us any obvious vulnerabilities without sacrificing the overall momentum of the battle. The Confederate reserve is already on its way to Jackson's Farm to plug the gap and prevent us from splitting their army in half, so let's make sure Sturgis is backed up with troops from Wilcox and Meade when he marches in for what may be the fiercest and most climactic fighting of the day. Meanwhile, sharpshooters and keeping one of Meade's divisions in reserve should give Buford the oomph he needs to either exploit an advantage or defend against a surprise rebel counter-attack they've been trying to keep hidden. Finally, we've been pushing Beckeniridge pretty hard and all the reasons we considered him vulnerable at the beginning still apply, so I don't believe there's a major danger of him hitting Wilcox back if his lines are thinned.

Hmmm so many what ifs that I'm not sure what the Confederacy is up to. Maybe they are finally learning what Yates is most likely to do from all the fighting they've been doing with Yates. And to be fair reinforcements are definitely coming north for the Confederacy. The question is when.

first of all really glad to have you back skrevski! its always a treat when this story updates. As for what to do...

[X] Plan: Playing Things Safe
this looks good to me as we need to exploit the weakness in the center waiting for all the support we can get before really hammering them in, moving the sharps north to support Buford makes the most sense as with their repeating rifles should be able to help Buford push Hampton back and making sure we keep contact with the whole line as well as keeping some of Meade in reserve is important incase something goes wrong or we need to make a push later with fresh troops, and I like to think Breckinridge just has orders to hold the line where he is as his men were the ones whose moral were in the gutter and were reinforced with fresh units to prevent a route so its makes sense to shift Willcox north to support Sturgis and make sure the center falls.

[X] Plan: Playing Things Safe

It seems like they are starting to shift to the flank we are attacking. We could pull a switch and attack the other flank as this one gets bogged down.

[X] Plan: Playing Things Safe

Is just my lack of info but i feel that the weak center can be a trap however i still think that pushing is the correct action

Hey guys just wanted to give an update, still here and planning to continue soon! I am sorry for the delay in updating lately, life just has been busy and still dealing with issues from Covid but do not fear the adventures of Sebastian Yates shall continue!
