See, it's this part that makes me wonder. What do we actually know about Solar-Winds-Distant? And what might she demand? Seems like important questions to ask before requesting assistance.
I mean, worst case we just say "no". For better or worse, we don't seem on track to find her at the moment, so what she offers is what we'll get.

Perhaps ECM assistance in the next round so we can dedicate fewer dice to that - her stealth ship indicates a likely competence there, at the very least.

I'm probably catastrophizing, but there is the chance we ask for help, SWD does something, and then makes a demand. Maybe it's something we are willing to do, maybe it isn't, but refusing would sour relations before they really start.

And maybe my worries are unfounded, but we are asking an unknown for nebulous "help."

Conversely, as a solo scout lightyears from home dealing with an immense diplomatic situation she is not prepared for-

She'll likely be worried about the same situation in reverse, her doing something for us in exchange for something or other we agreed to do, and then us going back on our word.

Thankfully, we're Psychics, so as long as we don't assume either side is lying through their mental connection (super unlikely given the POVs we've had access to) then any agreement that's come to should be understood as agreed upon and committed to, one way or the other.

Personally I think even a basic promise of "I'll let my government know that you're interested in Diplomacy" would be worthwhile, and depending on her circumstances, us offering a place to safely bunk down and do maintenance in the wake of this invasion attempt might be quite worthwhile to her.

I personally think that this is worthwhile as a general statement, yet I am but the Resource Gathering Tree so I will be unable to do anything but gather the resources we barter with.
 
People using their [action] for firing the laser may want to consider switching to magnetizing to improve our defenses. Vast majority of pew pew will come from [focus].

Or whatever other action suits your fancy, we have the veil and twist powers too.

Agreed, not just because of the fear of SWD demanding something completely out of proportion, but because we don't even know if she can do anything worthwhile.
 
As a scout with what is likely a minimally powered ship the most Solar Winds Distant could help us is with more info. Not a lot, admittedly. The connection with their polity is the real big value here.

They're labeled in the story update. Soothe or Magnetize.
There's also firing laser beam.

I would reiterate that we don't really know their capabilities, other than that it's loaded with sensors and that their techbase has bitchin' stealth. So ECM/ECCM assist seems like the most plausible immediate assistance they could offer.

Doesn't sound worth putting ourselves in debt for, to me. Especially since it's a one-man scout vs. an entire fleet's encryptions. So... might as well go over my estimates re: her ship's capabilities, purely based on its intended mission.
  • Weapons: Negligible at best; it's basically a recon craft, and you don't arm recon craft. (And we also don't know if this setting runs on D&D "acting dispels invisibility" rules, which means she might not be able to attack even if she is armed.)
  • Durability: None. It relies on not getting hit (via not getting found) so it can't take a hit.
  • Electronic Warfare: Non-zero chance, but since it's restricted by the fact that it's a single person controlling an entire ship rather than an entire team of EW specialists, and most of her equipment probably specializes in hiding rather than codebreaking, I doubt she can contribute meaningfully that way either.
  • Psionics: The pilot doesn't seem to be psychic; doesn't even seem like she's from a species that even has a notable psychic population.
...Honestly, I don't see any way that a single scout ship could possibly help us in this situation.

I'm guessing it's in a nearby Parallel section of reality?

Well, they're experienced enough with our enemy that they've developed a strategy of long range stealth scouts who watch their invasions, so more specific technical specs and their common tactics and strategies, as well as what countermethods the Scout feels comfortable sharing, might be more directly combat relevant than most othet things I could think of.

Plus there's the fact that while we might want to wait until after the combat action to properly discuss things with this scout ship, she may want to leave ASAP once the action is over due to her mission parameters.

...How's convincing our pets to participate looking? I haven't kept track. If we're short on that, it might be a better idea to work on that instead.

I believe that requires 10 successes, yes? I believe that we've got a bit over 10 on average, though I think we might be at the point where we can still fail?
