I'd really like to figure out psychic phasing technology so we can just nope out of fights. This should give us 12 potentially tripled dice. Assuming average rolls that's still only 18 but that's a pretty solid chunk out of the 50.

edit: Come to think of it, this "boarding party" (for lack of a better term) is probably their last-ditch effort; losing that to no effect might demoralize them to the point that the Ingaba can easily mop them up (doubt they'd surrender, they sound like fanatics).

I actually feel like the assault vessels are the most efficient targets, not the carriers.

We know from the update that the Katown think that an assault force has better odds of succeeding against the Forest than ship-based attacks.

And the assault vessels are likely smaller and less robust than the carriers, making them easier to kill off with the beam. And there's only 6 of them.

Which means, I speculate, that we can probably kill off all the assault vessels before they reach the Forest, and still have a bunch of dice to throw at secondary targets. Whereas, the carriers are probably tough enough that we can't kill all of them and have much left over for the next group of targets, which makes it more likely the assault force reaches us and this turns into a total furball. Plus, they might be able to capture or destroy the science base, where all our friendly scientists live. Which would not be good, even if we immediately captured it back.

So I'd rather eliminate the assault force first, and then continue hammering the naval forces after that.

With all other preparations as complete as possible, something unusual began to pick up speed then.

The forest seemed to drink in the light around it, growing dark and dim. It had been doing so for the entire time, but now the process seemed to accelerate. Light and particulates entered the Forest's dominion, and did not escape.
Oh, yes!

The Research Trees, in conjunction with the Ingaba Orbital Station, managed to discern the patterns of Katown ECM, and as the Ingaba made sure to send off as much data as they could to their counterparts in the First Division and the courier hanging by the hyperlane, the Forest made sure to identify the truth of the best available target, whittling down options until the expected strength of its strike matched the defenses of said target.

There was only one real option, of course.

The big ship the Katown had brought with them would suffice.

I'm around fifty percent thrilled, forty percent satisfied, and ten percent annoyed.

I'm pretty sure this should be a semicolon.
and hadn't that been a surprise, both effects, truly, they were sitting on a goldmine of information, if only they had the time to figure it all out and put it to use!
I think this needs at least one semicolon and probably two, but I believe there are multiple possible correct locations depending on the intent of the sentence.
