TreeQuest: Magitech (Riot Quest)

Angelform Comms relay: 8d; 4 successes. +65% Communication bonuses, +3% Tall Tree bonuses. Total 6.8 effective successes. It's a long way, and you'll have to reestablish contact with Phigment, but it'll help with something.
No Tree shall stand alone.
…although if you keep walking we might need to add an asterisk to that statement.

That was resolved rather nicely.
Not sure we could do much for the kid. Getting things out of someone's stomach is a bit outside our current expertise.

Hello eager yet expendable minion.

Sounds like that at the very least they won't immediately react with violence.

Well that is rather horrifying.
So we are declaring war on this 'Woo Clan' yes? They are outright evil and expanding in our direction.

He can go be Ulmus Tamarisk's companion. Perhaps see if any of the deer want to go see the world and wouldn't mind carrying him on the way?

Not sure on plan yet, but I certainly want to talk before trying to back out.

[X][Rin Refugees] Give them refuge
The innocent shall always find shelter in the shadow of the forest.

[X][Woo Clan Soldiers] Kill them too swiftly to easily be noticed
No point giving up the element of surprise if you don't have to. And all that requires is making sure there are no survivors.

Off-hand I'm happy to let the trained merchant do merchant-y things.

Does this mean "turn them into fertilizer for the Forest while they're still alive" is a go?

Look, I don't care how evil they are, I don't want to stoop to equal or worse levels of evil by subjecting our enemies to fates worse than death.

If the plan is to kill them, let's just end them. To unnecessarily drag it out just starts us down a path where there is a case to be made that we ourselves are also the bad guys, but with the little nagging problem of being bad guys who are convinced that the bad stuff we do is OK because we're doing it for good reasons.

Looks like it.
Though that isn't the only option. Trying to fly below the radar for another year might be worthwhile.

No.
Plan "Mount their heads on spikes, after ripping every trace of knowledge from their Minds," however, might well be.

Stage? Come on Razzocnrr, surely the forest can do better than that.
In one turn, all actions will be focused towards the creation of prehistoric fauna. After the few successes we gave, we send them after that clan and give them a woo-ping to be remembered.

Ano eat them soon after.

The only one I have really strong feelings about here is helping the Rin refugees. First, because they need the help and have been given a bad time, and second, because we were specifically asked to help Sara by the Last Star elves, who totally did us a solid earlier with the advance warning of being attacked.

I don't know whether they want us to help Sara because Sara is important to them, or because Sara will do something important for us, or just because they like helping people in general, and I don't really care. As far as I'm concerned, the Last Star folks have earned a lot of trust, so if they want us to do something, that's a really good reason to try and do it.

I have mixed feelings about how to handle the Woo Clan. They're clearly nasty pieces of work. These guys shoved the refugees out just because they could, and have kept shoving them for no good reason, violently. The one thing in favor of being merciful with them is that they haven't actually just murdered the refugees, which they probably could. But that's a pretty weak positive. I don't think making examples is a good idea, but if it comes to a fight, we should just disappear them as quietly as possible. I'd rather not escalate to preemptive violence, but that's a pretty weak preference. And I'm not exactly on the scene anyhow.

Yeah, Woo clan conflict is pretty much inevitable. But how we handle this group will change how soon we have to deal with them. More prep time is better.

Let's just change their course for now. We don't want to fire up this conflict too soon, not when our perimeter defense and surveillance isn't optimal. I fear that a Stealth Mage is our current bane, and there's no reason for the Woo to not have at least a few of such Mages in hand.

As for Talanburg... I have reservations about the Diplomatic Mission, we would be sending a kid as our representative. Unless children representing supernatural forces is a recurring thing in this world, I fear that the people of Talanburg will not take Beth seriously, even when accompanied by a sentient bear.

Also not enough implied threats of moving their trees should they try to strong-arm us, but, eh.

Not sure how to go on diplomacy, though it looks like we'll likely be going for it.

[][Woo Clan Soldiers] Divert them away from you

Ooo...I really like both these.

Fake monster death makes them 'go away' as a thing for Woo Clan, while Shadow-Spinners allow us to strike the first blow but point the blame somewhere else without lying about the blame being somewhere else.

EDIT: Put in a modified version of the vote, "[Woo Clan Soldiers] Divert them toward that Shadow-Spinner nest."

Side thought - if the Shadow-Spinners do survive and take care of these Woo Clan folks for us, it may be worth keeping them alive but contained in the long run simply because of their value as a convenient middleman proxy war scapegoat.

Good point, do you want that I add an adult (which one?) and/or the Speaker Tree?
