TreeQuest: Magitech (Riot Quest)

assuming 3 out of 6 possible dice results are a success for the enemy,
look at 3/6, the enemy has a 0.5 chance (= 50%) to hit,
with the debuff that becomes 2/6, a 0.3333333333333333 meaning about a 33% chance to hit,
reduction from tier above is 0.33333333333333337 (~33%) that means the expected damage is ~33% less than without the debuff.
Yep.

One further note: If you reach -3 or +3 accuracy, that doesn't totally eliminate hits/misses. Instead, the rule becomes "on a 1 (if accuracy +3) or a 6 (if accuracy -3), roll another unmodified die and follow that." So you get a 1/12th hit chance or a 11/12ths hit chance.

Of course, you can keep repeating that logic indefinitely. An accuracy of +12 comes out to "if you get 4 natural-1-s in a row, then roll a 3 or less, you miss."

This feature is borrowed from the quest that inspired this one: No SV You Are The Forest.

@Robinton, does it feel like there is more water in the telekinesis range well, or like it would be better to switch up approaches?
I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
  • Can you keep practicing TK range and hope to get improvements? Yes. They might be quick, or very slow, but they'll happen with practice.
  • Can you TK water out of the ground to partially resist droughts? Yes, and more range - or, probably better yet, more Water skill - would help. You might want to flat-out try to design a Tree for this...
  • Can you practice TK on Water? Yes.

Our continued progress on Ice/Fire Negacion is brilliant and I hope we finish soon.
*Checks notes* So do I.
*Glances at contingency* Or... Well... Honestly, that scene is going to be insanely cool either way; it's just a question of which version triggers. ;)

Corrected.

Truly, we're going against the providence of nature and where no plants have any reason be. Though, it's probably a minimal improvement unless we found more ways to move, improve our magic, or simply makes a more flexible trees?

I'm much more worried about Special Tree slots-- of which I remind everyone we've got a relatively limited amount-- than I am about Favor.

Been waiting for the Creatures - Fire Within action, @Robinton. Would've made a write-in myself later on lol. My dreams of being the fucking sun grows closer, for the Fire Within is the key to becoming the Sun that Nurtures.

-[X] Is is possible to make the a tree grow all types of lumber at once? Can we streamline the process by moving the wanted property from one branch to another thereby making two branches at once, one with the property, one without. Can we do so with multiple branches? What about multi-property branches?

I meant, "does it feel like this is a path that is likely to yield useful amounts of progress", but this answers my question well enough, ty.

Well, my Steam project didn't go too bad. Looks like we won't benefit much from the Negacion research on that front anymore, since we've apparently started to stabilize it to the point that we don't get much steam anymore, but it's there. (Also: It's nice that Elder Tree selections have been linked to in a single post instead of cluttering the Informational tab. Could maybe still have the most recent one threadmarked for convenience, but that'd require moving it every turn so I'll understand if that's too much work.)

Was tempted to try to grow/upgrade one of our combat Special Trees, but I ultimately decided to stick to my specialty.

As others have pointed out, while Newton Village is nice enough, a minimum level of xenophobia is still a good idea just in case we run into Evil-aligned lumberjacks or something.

While we have quite a few Special Tree slots, we don't have an unlimited supply. Thus I'm voting for the research project rather than the passive-action tree. I'm guessing we can probably unlock it later if we change our minds, but for now I don't see enough benefit.

...I wonder how the Herbalist is going to react when she finds out just how unusual we are? That said, gonna stay out of that vote; just gonna warn you that while it sounds like she might be moving in, it isn't completely confirmed yet from what I can tell.

The only Focus vote I'm making is the one I want most at the moment. Squirrels on guard, partly in case these traders start getting ideas and partly because we don't want a repeat of the Vines. Beavers exploring because I'm curious. And Ants on pesticide duty because Growth bonus.
