No, SV, You Are the Forest! (Riot Quest)

Just a reminder we only needed 10 dice not successes for the treaty to hold which we already have, anything more is not helping us and only helping the Ingaba research whatever they want.
Neither will it improve their disposition towards us thats only happening after a long enough time passes.
The worm helps us with research more than the ingaba does with their treaty.

In light of the Worm thing, I think I should instead focus on Growth actions until the Forest Reach expansion action is available once more.

I've mathed things out - right now, as long as we reach magnitude 4 (and we're going to), upgrading collector trees this turn costs 40 growth but will produce 48.75 growth over the 4 turn span. It's literally better at growing the forest than growing the forest itself is.

To reiterate, I strongly recommend root trees use their action on [X][ACTION] Upgrade Elder Collector Tree

Currently, only 3 root trees are voting to upgrade elder collector trees, while 15 trees are voting to grow the forest. We ideally want these numbers to be basically the other way around, because after forest actions we're only 2 successes away from magnitude 4.

Alright, I took a census of current voters for Grow the Forest, and...

root 2x10 = 20
Shard of Victory
Ambit
Kolar
Lavaflow
Legion0047
AzureShogun
Lunaloyalist
soulcake
bdun140
AramilOniasha

Elder Root 1x5 = 5
LordEdric

Growth 4x6 = 24
wrecksalot
Chaosbrain
Spring King
EternalStruggle

Protect

misc. 1x1 = 1
Pyro Hawk

20 + 5 + 24 + 1 = 50
50/2 * 4.2 = 105
Needed for magnitude 4: 66.25
We are getting magnitude 4 without needing any assistance from focus actions. As upgrading collector trees right now is more efficient at growing the forest than growing the forest, it is thus better to spend those focus actions on Upgrade Elder Collector Tree. As such, Everyone following the plan, please switch your focus votes to the following!

[X][FOCUS] Upgrade Elder Collector Tree
[X][FOCUS] Upgrade Elder Collector Tree x2
[X][FOCUS] Upgrade Elder Collector Tree x3

The plan this set of focus votes was based on changed: so many root trees are now using their action to grow the forest that no focus actions are needed to reach magnitude 4.

Over the next 4 turns, every collector tree upgraded this turn will produce 48.75 growth, while only costing 40 growth. They are better at growing the forest than "grow the forest" actions. Could you switch your focus actions over to this?

May I suggest we spend one of the Focus actions on upgrading a Skimmer? The 'Set a Course' mechanic will make it much easier to coordinate movement towards the Sun, and/or whatever position is necessary to intercept the Comet.

For example, this vote:

[x][Action] Move towards where the Ingaba ships always appear from. (Gravity)

Moves us both around and away from the star, thus slowing down attempts to reach a higher Magnitude. Being able to collectively vote on our desired heading will discourage individual trees from accidentally sabotaging each other's efforts.

Every additional +10% from Sun Proximity gets doubled by the Worm to +20%, for both Growth and Survival. At the current dice pool size (80ish dice) that's about +8 successes per turn for Growth and Survival each, or +16 total, roughly matching or exceeding what a single Elder Collector provides. (+8 to +14.4, itself also dependent on Proximity.)

@WallFlower cant expand the reach of the forest this turn were locked out from it.

2 people are simultaneously going towards and away from the sun. Were gonna be trippin over our roots unless we figure that out.
If either of your all's objective are to get to the comet and/or asteroids spewing from the wormhole upgrading the skimmer to unlock Set a Course I suspect is the only way to do so. Were just riding on the sun's orbit otherwise with no direction.

And just another reminder that upgrading our collector tree's will explosively grow the forest compared to the action of growing ourselves is.

The issue here is that kitten has stated every rank of sun proximity takes double the work of the last - and while it'll return +16 growth total if we move closer by turn 3, that's in exchange for 30 growth each, a net loss of 14. Two focus actions spent on it would lose 30 because of purchasing inefficiency (focus produces 31 growth), and a loss of 47.5 compared to spending those focus actions on elder tree upgrades.

Every Collector tree upgraded this turn by contrast costs 40, but will produce 48.75 over the same span, for a net gain of 8.75 towards turn 4 magnitude 6. Spending focus actions on skimmer upgrades isn't just worse, it's worse than if we lost our sun proximity modifier entirely.

So, I'm sure Raising Kittens will count them as the same anyway, but I think it would be better if we coordinated on writing the base tree name (ie, without 'Elder') in the Upgrade action like the post specifies. This will probably make a difference when there are more tiers.
[ ][Action] Upgrade <Treename>
-Replace <Treename> with the name of a Special Tree with an unlocked older form. Variable cost. This does not take up any additional Special Tree slots.

Eh, we have more than enough resources. Perhaps if we had a way to spend them it would be worth gathering more. For now however all this is is proof that we need to get away from that Wormhole before it tries to eat us.

Eh, we can stockpile them for now. I find it hard to just pass up on extra resources, as long as getting them isn't prohibitively expensive. And who knows, maybe we'll find some exotic materials or other.

Thank you. I must have missed that

Is this better?
[X][Action] Utilize the Twist power to grow or shrink the Forest (Gravity)

EDIT: I should maybe explain that I think that it may be useful to prepare this at least in part. With the maximum of three successes I can get as a scavenger tree this likely won't trigger.

A is not an assumption, nor is your paraphrasing of it accurate.

While 'autosuccesses' would no longer be deterministic, they'll have an expected value of 1.5 times their previous yield.

And with worm completing this turn, I've just ran a simulation - if HDP were to completely disappear next turn, we'd still trivially be able to get mag5 on turn 3, and reasonably be able to get mag6 turn 4.

So long as root trees start voting for elder collector trees upgrades, we're well on track.

This honestly makes me even more worried about the worm. There's got to be a catch somewhere.
