No, SV, You Are the Forest! (Riot Quest)

Crystal Formation, Optical, Hyper is where I would throw any free dice if there are still non-voting mind trees wandering about. Vote for research, vote for a smarter forest of tomorrow!

Would have joined in on the soothe action but despite being a psychic action, it's not filed under comms... vexing.
It is not meant to communicate anything, merely neutralize targets. Clearly an offensive action. Actions are not divided by tags y'know. If we learn how to communicate via Radio (magnetic?) or pulsed laser transmissions, that would be under Communications too.

Ahh, I appreciate the concern, however, if you've seen my previous posts you will see that, this, is what I do.
I grow Empty Trees. For however this riot quest lasts, that is what I'll be doing. Growing Empty Trees.
Once I become an Elder Tree? I will simply grow them faster. It is all I will ever do.
Well I'll be. My empty tree obsessed root tree strawman was real after all!

With the additional focus on the gravitational anomaly I believe I shall focus upon Crystal Formation, as I have for the last few turns.

The Magnetize power was derived from the manipulations of magnetic trees. If the strength of the deployed Magnetic Field was stronger than opposing defenses, shield generators will be overloaded and engines destroyed as the target struggles to keep moving. If it was not stronger than said defenses, the target would, in most cases, be slowed down. At least, so the Forest hoped.
I'm a bit concerned myself, if something comes out of the wormhole that's hostile I'd like to at least make it regret attempting to take a bit out off us. That's why I've kept stocking the shard valley reserves, it's our only real option to deal any sort of damage at the moment.

Were kind of like a punching bag right now, sure we can eat some hit's with the shield, and if they get passed that our reserves are impressive... but that's not the issue at hand.
With the shard valley we become akin to a porcupine that bloodies whoever sink's their teeth in us, instead of a clam that reward's whoever cracks us open.
As long as whatever comes out uses metal to any significant extent we do have the Magnetize power.

Hm. Based on ham's analysis last page, with the two new voters on wormholes I can switch off from wormhole research and leave it at >90% completion chance, and change over to Twist power research (0/10) boosting it from 7 to 11 dice.

I believe I shall do that.

Ah, make sure to check the edit times on that post; the >90% number included those new votes. Both of you switching lowered the Wormhole's one-turn success probability from 92% to 56%. (Elder Trees have a pronounced effect, especially at the margins.)

Technically, 50% is efficient to aim for if the idea is to minimize overflow successes, assuming the tech in question isn't time-sensitive. In this case though, we don't know if the Wormhole will still be there next turn, so I'd recommend at least one of you switch back.

If you're a Growth tree, then would you be willing to swap to Growing Tranquil Trees so I can swap to Sacrifice to the Worm?
Agreed. Had at some point gotten confused about how many more successes were needed, thought it was only one (in which case five dice would be a bit overkill). Changing vote now

Yipe! Switching back.

You're still advising one of two people to switch from Ingaba in that post by the way, if you intended for it to be a living post you should probably spoiler that bit.

Yeah, it was originally two of three, then one switched. Edits to my knowledge do not trigger additional pings, so if they got the alert it should still be accurate.

It's time for SCIENCE! We shall beat the Ingaba to micro-wormhole generation.

Synergy for Worm, Hyper Tree, and Wormholes, anyone?
I was on the fence because I don't like research splitting, but upon review it seems the wormhole that attacked us is distinct from the hyper lanes that our cosmic neighbors use. Changing my vote because wormholes might be more effective at my long term goal of situating us somewhere no one will find us while we amass power.

Double-checking ham's latest analysis it looks like I (and others voting wormhole) should stay there, but if we can get just a couple more dice on Twist power we can get that completed this turn as well.

How close are we to finishing the Elder Tree research? That seems like something that would be more valuable than a random power, because it would give Root Trees more actions next turn where otherwise they would have to wait until we hit the next Magnitude.

Currently it looks like the * tech we're researching is Crystal Formation, which, while not a bad choice, is, well... the fourth distinct * tech we've researched in four turns. We're like half-done on all of the ones we've touched thus far.
[ ][Action] Research Optical Tree (Crystal, Light, Magnetic)*
-Derived from a sensor that detects things not through the changing of magnetic fields, but through the energy those things emit or reflect, the Optical Tree makes use of electromagnetic waves to determine what is in the vicinity of the Forest, improving and enhancing the Forest's knowledge of the local area.
-Effect: Increases detection range and fidelity. Reduces the threshold required to detect stealthed ships or entities. Unlocks further researches.
-Requires 50 successes to research. 21/50
[ ][Action] Research the Laser Power (Crystal, Light, Magnetic)*
-Derived from a direct energy weapon provided by the Ingaba Directorate, the Laser shoots beams of aligned, amplified, and focused Light, containing immense amounts of energy.
-Effect: Unlocks the Beam Offensive Action, which directly damages targets that it hits. When the Forest Focus is applied to this action, it obtains the automatic successes provided by Collector Trees.
-Requires 100 successes to research. 26/100
[ ][Action] Research the Hyper Tree (Gravitic, Void)*
-The Ingaba Directorate provided a Hyperdrive to reverse engineer. This was the first variant the Ingaba placed into mass deployment when they began expanding to other star systems.
-Effect: Unlocks the Hyper Tree, which allows the Crystal Forest to travel between star systems. More Hyper Trees increase the speed at which this can be accomplished. Requires at least one Forest Focus action in order to occur.
-Requires 100 successes to research. 58/100
[ ][Action] Research Crystal Formation (Crystal)*
-Samples of crystalline materials grown in other environments provides pointers on how the Crystal Forest can be more efficient in its own growth.
-Effect: Successes obtained on 'Grow the Forest' actions are increased by 25%. Automatically implemented.
-Requires 50 successes to research. 10/50
...that said, the fact that we're slamming through the Wormhole research in one turn is something I expect to pay narrative benefits. The Ingaba might want to know what we learn, since the latest update said that they were sending a new team to research it. Anything we can learn before them seems like something of potential value to them.
