I shall continue to put my personal interest into the lasers. I mean, they are an offensive ability that receives a buff from Collector Trees. We have 12 Collector trees, which means 12 Auto successes on this offensive ability (edit)on a focus action.

I am not asking for people to vote for this, this is Just me justifying my personal research.

For people researching the magnetize power, I really want to ask you why. Destroying the engines and shields of enemy ships might sound useful I guess, until you consider that the only other offensive action we can then take against them is soothing their minds. Or potentially ramming them, which has its own host of problems.

Let me draw out a scenario for you here. Enemy raiders go on an attack run against the Forest. Our doughty assault trees crush their engines into a pretzel. Because space is frictionless, they continue to drift towards us. Potentially, we also soothe them to make them to chilled out to use their weapons but:

- They could have set their weapons to autofire before the forest creeps into their hearts
- Soothe is not a permanent effect, as soon as we stop focusing on it, they're going to fire on us.

Meaning we now have a threat continuing to approach us, that can shoot their weapons at us at any time. Laser Power is very much the superior option in terms of actually neutralizing threats. And it synergizes nicely with all the Collector Trees we have.

Of course, Magnetize has its place, and is only 10 successes, but I really would like to recommend more Mind trees focus on Laser instead. Also, no one except us has shields yet, so they're only useful for destroying engines. @Kommander_AKA has the right idea here tbh.

Further researches Mind trees should seriously consider:
- Hyper Tree: It has been revealed that our solar system is now a battleground between two galactic nations, because of the god corpse. Conflict will continue to happen here, and eventually we will get drawn into a fight we don't care about, unless we leave for another solar system. Thus the Hyper tree is a good research option
- Crystal Formation: We are steadily approaching our special tree cap. We need to expand the Forest's magnitude sooner rather than later, and Crystal Formation provides an automatic passive bonus to that.
- Elder Trees: With the Special Tree Cap now in effect, we need to grow tall rather than wide, making Elder Trees a good pick
- Superconductive Root System: A lot of our actions are magnetic, making the extra success chance this research gives for magnetic rolls very good.

I kinda figure we can just eat the cocoon eventually, they say it's a dead god so I bet it should be good fertilizer for us :V
I don't have a problem with that, but people would probably be angry at us if we do so. Meaning Laser power to shoot back and Hyper tree to get away if things get too hot for us remain good picks. Or go to other god corpses if they turn out to be forestgro+ or something.

While I agree with you, I am kinda fearful of insulting those crusader fellows. They seem quite keen on gathering those cocoon/corpse things and would probably be quite angry at us for doing so. Is pissing off an entire galactic nation worth it? What would the ingaba fellows think?

@Raising Kittens, a write-in for your judgement.

But nothing? We just push them off course then, and otherwise delay until Ingaba fleet elements come in to mop up.

Just because the effect talks about ripping out shields and engines doesn't mean the underlying premise of "attract or repel foes" can't be applied directly, and our defense plan remains in the context of our alliance and proximity with the Ingaba.

We may not have a military base, but as the corpse demonstrates, they can still mobilize here in time just fine.

This is our low hanging fruit. Grab it so that we can get any prep actions it needs out of the way before we need it.

The Matlownee want to wake the corpse child up to wage war across the galaxy to their benefit, they just disagree on how to do so which was why they consider the raiding party messy unless it was successful.

The Ingaba on the other hand use them for fuel for their ship's apparently, but since their leaving it alone and researching us instead it can be assumed with the treaty in effect that us eating it will also fall under research purposes as well.
Fact of the matter is there's a lot of power in them waiting to be used for whatever purpose whoever get's their hand's on one them, leaving them alone and having someone else take the initiative seem's unwise.
Also the worm will loves all the more for it I bet :V

To defend, to survive... The Worm is a Mystery - whether it be good or bad, depends on its whims and our actions. Yandere, yet useful to us, for now. It may or may not be a wrathful entity, yet needs to be appeased, that its boons keep on flowing. What is useful for The Forest... perhaps one should pull a Gift Giver for this.
