Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

A good king is merciful. A good king doesn't punish the innocent for the crimes of the dead.

This part is consistent with our decision making so far, after all we spared; Tommen, Myrcella and Tyrion.

I think the narrative is referring to Tyene when the 'blue eyes' come up. She has blue eyes in the books, so I think it's legit. Are we really going to have a threesome with Dacey watching? Or if we have her stay, is the threesome avoided? Is there a way to 'be merciful' without engaging in sexual relations with these women?

[X] A good king is merciful. A good king doesn't punish the innocent for the crimes of the dead. Right? Right? Ok fuck it, send Edric and Dacey out of the tent.
-[X] Don't send Dacey out of the tent.

Hoping keeping Dacey not only prevents potential assassination but more importantly keeps any seduction mild. With Edric rejecting the offer of Dorne I think its best to just back Arriane since even they have to figure out eventually that trying interfere in the war is just bad for Martells.

Had father not told the truth of Jon's parentage, you might have suspected the late Ashara Dayne to be his mother.

Ah, so Robb knows about Jon's parentage.

"I'm Robb." She blinked. "I'm King of Westeros."

Has he been talking to Davos ? :D

[X] Politely rebuff their advances. Send them away to consider matters. Summon Edric. Impressed with the young man's moral fiber, ask him to consider a marriage to Arianne.

Sigh. We just dealt with the Dornish shits last turn. :rage::anger::anger:

We shouldn't fuck them, not when our situation is so precarious. Think of the catastrophe that will occur if Shireen or her crazy mum Selyse throw a fit over any bastards and call of the wedding.

It would hurt our legitimacy really bad and Stormlands would break away from our alliance.

Deferred, maybe, not avoided. I'm working under the assumption that Dacey's presence will keep Robb's head in the game (so to speak) for the moment and so there will be more flirting but no actual shenanigans. Once any and all deals have been struck, oaths made etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Arianne at least tries to seduce Robb again, either because she thinks it'd help shore up her position or just because Arianne Martell does what she wants to, dad.

I'd be all for it if it would work out but I don't think it will. They're both tied to their holdings (Ned's a Lord and Arianne's an heir.), complicating the inheritance. The vast age gap is also a problem.

I think in this case Arianne would be the ruler of Dorne since the dornish are okay with female rulers. So there shouldn't be any complication regarding inheritance.

The Paramountship will remain with the Martells, Ned will be there so that we have an unofficial say over matters and it will keep the Dornish straight and true.

Grey wind is on guard duty. He's more than enough.

As for other concerns... no other human witnesses means nothing can be proven.

Robb just talked with them. Really! :p

I wasn't as clear as I should have been. The problem isn't the inheritance of Sunspear. Arianne's the heir so of course, she'd rule as the head of House Martell. The problem is the inheritance of Starfall. Edric Dayne can't be Arianne's Prince Consort for the same reason Dacey Mormont, the heir of Bear Island, couldn't be the Lady of Winterfell. Ned's the Lord of Starfall, which would require all sorts of accommodations to remedy all the issues that would arise from a matrilineal marriage with House Martell. If Ned moves to Sunspear, a castellan would have to be appointed to rule in his name after Allyria marries Beric Dondarrion and Arianne and Ned's second child will inherit Starfall along with the Dayne name. If Ned stays and rules from Starfall, the marriage will be...difficult considering either party will have to travel a considerable distance in order to copulate. No matter what Ned chooses to do, Gerold Dayne, the Darkstar, will be waiting in the wings to take advantage of the situation, as he'd be next in line if Ned meets an untimely end or never has a second child. It's an inconvenient marriage for both parties and it doesn't really make much sense for them to accept it when marrying people who aren't heirs would be better for their situations.

I might be overthinking this...but I don't see this working out.

Oh now I see what you mean. Honestly I don't feel that it's a huge deal. Sure he would have to appoint a castellan or something but that's hardly new among the nobility. I mean when we give lords positions at our Small Council, they will have to shift permanently to our capital and they would have to appoint suitable castellans to take care of their lands.

Jon Arryn was the Lord Paramount of the Vale, and he managed to do his duties satisfactorily while he was at King's Landing for years at a time.

Gerold is a .... concern but it could be argued that it would be safer for Ned and his heirs to be in Sunspear if they are afraid of any plots by Gerold.

There's also the matter of whether Ned would want a marriage with Arianne. He would obviously be the subordinate in the relationship and he might want a more conventional arrangement with a spouse that could actually help him manage his household and lands.

I honestly think he'd be more amenable to a match with Arya than to one with Arianne.

That may be the case too. But I am more concerned about sowing oats among the dornish which seems kinda incongruous with Robb's personality. Of course we know what happened in canon when Robb broke off his marriage in a similar situation. I am just wary, I guess.

Look guys, thing is, I'd prefer to give Dorne to Ned and hell, Arya too.

The thing is, Ned made it pretty clear that he doesn't want the position and he found the offer morally offensive.

So, let's not kind ourselves. It's going to Arianne or we will be fighting the Martell's to give it to an undecided third person.

[X] Well... that's all very persuasive but you're quite set on killing some Dornish. Have Dacey take these two away in chains. You'll depose Prince Doran and set up Edric when you're done with the Golden Company.
-[X] Blood claims do matter though. The other girls ought to become Septas or Silent Sisters, but one (perhaps Elia Sand) should wed him to secure his rule over Dorne.

Can't trust the dornish. Also this is a trap. And not in the fun meaning of the word.

Okay, so we have picked out are Capital (Kings Landing), and we have Lords for all of the Paramount regions of Westeros (we still do have Theon, right?),

I propose, we get about to selecting a Small Council, What do you guys think of this council:

The Small Council
Hand of the King: "Bronze" Yohn Royce, Lord of Runestone
Master of Coin: Wyman Manderly, Lord of White Harbour
Master of Laws: Randyll Tarly, Lord of Hornhill and Highgarden (or "Bronze" Yohn Royce, Lord of Runestone {if someone else becomes Hand})
Master of Ships: Jason Mallister, Lord of Seaguard (or Theon Greyjoy, Lord of Pyke)
Master of Whispers: Tyene Sand (or Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort)

For Hand there is zero option but the Blackfish. He's our grand-uncle, right hand man, and well-respected in both the Vale and the Riverlands (remember that he served as commander of the Bloody Gate for the past decade or so, he has friends there).

I think Tyene and Arianne are offering fealty in exchange for vengeance against Aegon the False. The seduction thing's a bonus more than anything else, since that's Arianne's MO in general and Robb can't turn off his swag for love nor money. If a Sand Wolf results because of it well, more the merrier I guess?

Speaking of, @Charcolt do we have a sitrep on the other adult Sand Snakes? I presume the kids are still in the water gardens with Ellaria, but Obara, Nym and Sarella seem to be MIA. I presume they weren't killed since I can't imagine Tyene wouldn't mention that in her tirade against Aegon but still...
Sarella is probably in Oldtown like a baller.

It's Tyene that we have to worry about, she's the poisoner and the most subtle.

Make a new position for him, High Marshal of the Realm.

But if she was going to kill the king here, why bring Arianne on a suicide mission?

Yeah we are not sending Dacey out to avoid assassination attempts. On another note, we cannot trust the Dorne to be true to their words so a marriage must take place. Can we ask Ned to be consort to Arianne? Failing which, find another close male relative or ally to marry her.

Actually the council members have far too much powers now. I favor radically expanding membership so we can divide power among many council members as well as bribe various Lords with positions. We can give positions to our not-enemies but keep the finances, army, navy & spy craft for our firm allies.

I said the dice gods were in our favor and I was right. This is our chance. When life gives you lemoms......

Again, no we don't. She totally hates Aegon's guts and wants to bang Robb. The Dice Gods have willed it.

Exactly. Because it's not a kill the king mission, it's a 'ally with the King and secure my LP-ship before the current head of the family fucks things up/get revenge against Blackfyre' mission. They're pretty up front about their motivations here, and if we help them, we get their loyalty.

Greywind is plenty of protection. And they're NOT here to assassinate us. They've been thoroughly checked. Tyene's stated motivations are genuine. As are Arianne's.

Once again, eleven year age difference. And Edric does not like the idea of ruling Dorne.

Finding an ally to marry her can be beneficial, but that can be worked out later. Making deals/betrothals would be politics as usual. No need to sour it by making it an outright order.

That's nice and all, but what other positions did you have in mind?

We managed to add a council member for the armies, a 'secretary of state' of sorts, and for religious affairs in Bobby B quest. That last one probably isn't going to see as much use unless we try to blend all the religions together and center them around our dynasty again.

Edit: I think there might have been one for major civil engineering projects or something. Not sure.

Just make him LC of the Kingsguard. We're short on candidates as is. He can still perform the duties you'd give High Marshall, that's what Kingsguards did anyway.
And making the Blackfish the Hand is a waste of his Martial skills. The Hand is a more Administration-based office.

My suggestions for the Kingsguard:
Brynden Tully (Riverlands)
Barristan Selmy (Stormlajds)
Balon Swann (Stormlands)
Sandor Clegane (Westerlands) [We killed his brother, he'll likely be glad to serve us]
Arys Oakheart (Reach)

No telling how many of the last three survived the wildfire. And whether we can get our paws on Selmy. Bronn and Brienne are out because people voted to get them married for the lulz. We need to add some Northerners, and maybe poach some from Renly's Rainbow Guard, like Robar Royce (Vale).

We could make the position not for life, allowing people to leave or be dismissed when necessary. Lords can't be members of course, but heirs could be temporary members, and retire when they need to accept their inheritance. And we're not followers of the Seven. No need to stick to that number, we would be better protected if we had around 10-20 to protect the entire (future) family. Heck, it doesn't have to be a fixed number, we can just add or remove people as necessary and/or if they're competent enough. We need to make sure though to only take people of sufficient skill, and not have too many at once, lest the position lose its prestige.

Also, doesn't have to be a knight or follower of the Faith. We can employ Khal fucking Drogo or Tormund Giantsbane if we want.

edit: if we do this we can have both Bronn and Brienne in the Kingsguard, until her father dies and they have to take up Lordship of Tarth.
edit2: also, the Hound became Lord Clegane when his brother died, he can't join unless we implement this.
