Quest Mechanics:
I'll go through the various mechanics of the quest in the order they are listed on the Character Sheet.
Notable Items
I felt like this one was pretty self-explanatory, but I'll put this here anyway. These are the things you possess that are noteworthy in some way. Your Riptide, your Yankee's baseball cap of invisibility, Your hide of the Nemean lion, Your supplies of nectar/ambrosia. Items on this list don't have to be magical in nature, but they usually will be.
Traits
These are qualities that describe you in some way and have a significant effect on your character. Again, they don't need to be magical in nature, but they usually will be. Traits cannot be trained in any normal way, but if you work at them, especially the mundane ones, it is possible to improve or change some of them. Examples not shown: Invulnerability of Achilles, Blessing of Artemis (Huntress' blessing).
Skills and Abilities
Skills and abilities have mostly similar mechanics. The main differences are as stated in the character sheet. Skills are mundane, abilities are magical/supernatural. Thus, if you know a skill exists, you can at least attempt to train in it. The same is not true for an ability.
There are 6 stages of training for a skill or ability
- Untrained - You are not trained in the skill or ability
- Apprentice - Your skill or ability is improving, though you could not be considered 'competent'
- Intermediate - You could be considered 'competent' in this skill
- Advanced - You have advanced knowledge or techniques. You could probably teach beginners to a certain extent
- Master - You have mastered the skill or ability. You can teach others if they have the ability to learn.
Now that you know the levels, I'll talk about how you get from one level to another. All skills and abilities not listed on your character sheet will start at Untrained and at 0 EXP Points (there may be exceptions, but those will be decided by me and given explicit reasoning for why they are exceptions). The normal way to gain EXP Points is training. The amount of EXP Points gained by training depends on the difference in skill between you and the person training you. If the person training you is more skilled than you are, then you will gain between 2 and 5 EXP Points for training with them, depending on how much more skilled they are. If the person you are training with is equal or less skilled than you, or if you are training by yourself, then you will only gain 1 exp point. Below is a list of how many EXP Points you need to get from each stage of skill to the next
- Untrained to Apprentice - 10 EXP Points
- Apprentice to Intermediate - 15 EXP Points
- Intermediate to Advanced - 25 EXP Points
- Advanced to Master - 50 EXP Points
You cannot train a skill beyond Master, though mastering a skill or ability could give you the ability to train offshoots or extensions of that skill or ability.
In addition, training is not the only way to earn EXP Points. Performing feats, completing quests, and other things can give you skill EXP Points and ability EXP Points, which will be listed on your character sheet when you get them. At any safe location, you can spend those points to improve your skills or abilities, depending on what kind of points they are.
This should explain everything so far, if you have any questions, please @ me. I'll probably add any question that has a significant answer below this in a sort of FAQ
Omake Rewards:
I guess it's pretty cocky to name rewards for writing omakes before anyone has actually written any, but there is someone who has already earned a reward. That said, these are not necessarily final as I may feel the need to change them if they are too much/too little.
With that said, I figure the best way to reward omakes is just to award you with EXP Points. The only person who can spend these EXP Points is the person who wrote the omake. Also, while benefits from training become less effective as you become more skilled. EXP Points from omakes do not. I will be basing the benefits on the length of the Omake. Again, it's not the best system, but it's functional and simple. if I canonize your omake, I will reward you with 2 additional EXP Points.
Rewards:
- 250-Word Omakes - 1 Point
- 500-Word Omakes - 2 Points
- 1000+-Word Omakes - 5 Points (2 additional points for each 500 words after 1000, 5 for each 1000 words)
Please make sure to @ me if you ever want to spend your Omake Points, to ensure that I will see your message.
