The Defence of Khazid Grungron Part 1
Defensive Regiments ability to assist in the coming battle: 1 (Critical-Fail) (Grobi Assault in progress will be adding additional rolls to this battle)
A horn blew through the valley as you glanced worriedly at the garazi passing you by. The clans Valkyrinn already leading them into the hold as they took up positions while shouts ran through the hall to gather what they could from the valley. Tapping Rothgar on the shoulder, you to them before leaving the hold, wincing as the sun glared at you, its rays scorching your exposed skin, while iced wind thrashed against your face.
Scowling you kept your focus on the wall, your feet carrying you over the distance in short order. Meanwhile, heavy clanking echoed behind you, as Rothgar and 'your' regiment of Runedrakes marched on the wall. The aura of the runes filling Dawi around them eery hope. Reaching the base you rested your rune-gun, before extending an arm to your 'apprentice' who quickly passed a tankard into your waiting hand. Sighing you took a sip of ale while you watched the clans Ironbreakers coach the beardlings on duty as they waited for the inevitable.
Sighing you passed the tankard back, before starting your march up the steps, when you heard your name shouted over the winds. Glancing down you spotted a ranger, the beardling looking haggard as he all but stumbled before you. "King Uthor" You gave a nod to Rothgar who passed his peer your tankard. "Drink first, no use stumbling over words lad." The beardling stated confusedly at the ale, wheezing heavily before throwing it down his throat. As he finished you grabbed it back. "Now what was it?"
His cloak and beard a mess, dust and blood caking his face, the stench of rancid troll blood and possibly puke assaulting your nose. You made note to check that rune of purity on the tankard before using it again. "of cou-rse my King, it's the grobi my lord my squad," He seemed to tense while tears gathered in his eyes, "we spotted them on the march at best we counted around a thousand of them marching, my squad distracted them I'm not sure if they made it out." His beard trembling while you felt your stomach tighten into a knot.
Snarling you barked to Lotti, the commander of the Valkyrinn. "Send a runner back to the hold. I have confidence the defences will hold; but I will not guarantee the lives of Kvinn and Garazi on a whim." You glared at the wizened silverplait. "Have elements of the throng know to pull back if worst comes to worst."
The Valkyrinn off you nodded to the beardling. "You'll be with me lad." You looked over your shoulder. "Rothgar, this is your brother for today, make sure he doesn't get too many kills." Your apprentice blinks before nodding, quickly reaching into his backpack for various tools and utensils. "And remember lads watch yourselves." You sigh, passing an extremely ramshackle pistol into the lad's hand. "That was one of mine own, should have at least one shot in it lad, use it well."
Over the wall, a medium-sized group of squat figures approached. Wearing peaked talon laden hats, and bearing hulking tusks jutting from their jaws. The Dawi Zharr, fell traitors and the mortal foes and eternal shame of your clan marched forth, a sea of mottled green, their hobgoblin slaves, flowing around them.
While your heart filled with horror at recognising them, you felt a great sigh of relief, as the glowing infernal guard strode forth. What at first in the reports had made up two thirds the hordes number now counted only 28, or 29 counting their absolutely livid leader. A pit grew in your stomach as you observed their numbers seemed to match yours, but thank the ancestors they were armed with primarily with bows, not the hell guns your ancestors had faced for Millenia. Already you could see the first formation taking their place, striding to the other side of the wall you spotted your clans Ironbreakers moving forward, loading stones to throw from the battlements. Frowning, a plan began to form in your head...
Where Do you Fight?
[] Atop the walls: You had the clan work hard to ensure that the valley was secure and see no reason to give away the advantage.
[] Charge them: The Dawi-Zharr are only coming through now and while close to half would make it through if your charged them, though you would have to brave arrow fire and be required to break through if you did not wish to fight outnumbered.
[] Open the gates and fight them there: The walls will make for excellent cover, fight in the shade and in a choke point even if it is a rather large one. It should at least stem the tide if your throng can hold its ground.
[] Have the clan withdraw from the wall and valley: With threats on both sides and the Throng divided you feel it would be better to fall behind the strong gates of the hold, though you will have no way to strike at the Zharr or even stop them from destroying your valleys infrastructure. (Loss of clan and Guild Appeasement, -2 to Diplomacy for gaining the trait cowardly)
[] Write-in
***
As you started barking out orders your eyes drifted to the hold in worry before shaking off the thought, this was no time to have doubts especially when things looked to be so dire, still the clans within were the priority.
***
Do you assign any Regiments prepared to fight the Dawi-Zharr to help face the grobi assault instead:
[] Write-in which regiments you have move for the hold.
[] None, you need all the fighters to repel the coming force.
Do you have the Grudge Thrower Stonefist assigned to face the Grobi assault or with you.
-[] Have it fight against the Dawi Zharr
--[] By the wall: Have the Stonefist placed just behind the wall, the lack of time forcing it to fire and at risk of hitting the wall. (-15 due to it firing blind.)(Chance of it damaging the wall and if your pushed back destroyed or used by the Dawi-Zharr) (Starts the battle with it opening fire)
--[] Hold Gate: Have the Stonefist placed at the entrance of the hold, you will not risk the last war machine of the hold and it would serve better to cover your withdrawal if necessary. (Will be able to fire if you leave the gates open but it has a chance of hitting your own forces.) (keep in mind this will start a grudge between the clans)
-[] Against the Grobi assault. (+20 to the rolls for this area of battle)
***
You scowled while barking out the orders you had to and while you didn't like them it had to be done, still, with threats on both sides there was still a chance of things going horribly wrong and it was either a choice of the valley or the hold and neither left you with good options.
***
Should you start losing and things look dire which force will withdraw and seal the path behind them:
[] Withdraw to the hold: Should things look dire the Throng is to withdraw in good order and seal the gate and wait out the Dawi-Zharr. (Do not gain the Trait cowardly for fighting it out)
[] Withdraw to the Valley: send a runner to let the clan know that they are to retreat from the hold should thing look to be faltering, though you are loathed to be forced outside into the freezing winds of the valley and conceding the ground you have gained within the hold. Though you would at least keep the few farms you had under your control.
[] Stand firm and hold, nothing will be lost (Grudge stone is placed with an Oath at the wall's gate): You will not let the Traitors or the Grobi take what is left of your peoples home, lay the Grudgestone and swear an Oath as such. Gain Trait: Stalwart +1 Martial Ability and +20 to all personal rolls for any battle with which you swear on the Grudgestone.
***
Closing your eyes you sent a prayer to Grimnir and Valaya to deliver your clan a victory or to at least preserve those that it could. Still, as you opened your eyes to the glare of the sun you made your choice, and you would fight. Though your Thanes could at least help.
Do you have the Thanes fight and act as rallying points or at the head of a Regiment.
[] Rallying points (They will fight as a normal hero does.)
[] Leading a Regiment (+25 to any group they are attached to with an additional saving throw)
***
Will probably run a small vote to see the name of the regiments at a later date instead of them being so numerical.
