Well, I doubt that as if it were that short then we will just probably have to go with the expedition instead. And I mentioned that this battle is similar to 300 not that its the same. Really, if we can hold out for reinforcements and use our powerful weapons and kill obqet, then the battle will be as good as won. Especially considering these are goblins of all things.
Flannar growled as his apprentice dropped the heavy drakegun into the vat of icy water, hastily turning the air into steam. Marching forward he yanked the lass by the ear, causing her to help, before he forced her close to the boiling water.
"Never! I repeat NEVER! Drop an incendiary runic weapon!" He roared into her ear as she whimpered, forcing her to stare at the vibrating runes on the device. Pulling her back, throwing her to the ground behind him, he pulled a drak hide curtain over them as he waited for the device to either explode, or douse.
Minutes passed, the thing whistling with ever greater intensity like a giant kettle, the apprentice whimpered as he kept the curtain tight around them. A great plume of boiling steam had meanwhile filled the room, causing the hide to glow, though inside the pair remained untouched.
Eventually the whistling died down, and the great fans that beat over them syphoned the steam away, pumping fresh air in. Eventually the runedrake rose up before pulling up the plaitling and giving her a hug. "Never be so foolish again lass. You'll just get us both killed."
His temper evening out he marched forward and pulled the now dulled gun from its empty vat. Sighing he grumbled for a moment before airing his thoughts. "Looks like I'll have to have the king have a look at this one." He glared at the lass. "Remember no word of it to the elders." She nodded frantically, before rushing to get her equipment and books of dawi prayer. Apparently repairs like this required choirs.
When this lousy war is over, no more slaughtering for me,
When I get my smithy clothes on, oh how happy I shall be.
No more wall parades on Sunday, no more begging for a day of leave.
I will miss the throng elder,
How he'll miss me how he'll grieve.
No more guarding endless trenches,
Only one more hold parade,
No more longbeards to curse us,
No more umgak marmalade.
When this lousy war is over,
No more slaughtering for me,
When I get my smithy clothes on,
Oh how happy I shall be.
People said when we enlisted,
Glory and honor we would win,
But the fame is back in the guardroom backhouse,
And those medals made of tin.
When this lousy war is over,
No more slaughtering for me,
When I get my smithy clothes on
Oh how happy I shall be.

the tale of a dwarf smith encouraged to enlist in the Kol Khazad; longing for the day he can return home to his forge.
It is on this day, the day of Zagazdeg, to bring memory of the fall of Vengryn. It was a tragedy that shall still be remembered even if it were reclaimed, on this oath we swear. Till the day Gazul returns and grants use and our ancestors one last time to reclaim our Vengeance against the ogri at the time of Khazakrendum!
It was a cold night, especially on the eve of Kulkelzet. We had kept up the guard more so now that Karak Zon-Duraz had fallen. Perhaps if we had been more prepared with the defenses it could have helped, but it matters not. It was on that night that a massive ogri hoard, one that we had never before seen, filled with monsters of all shapes and sizes came. Including the dreaded mornfang, sabertusks, and even 3 Stonefangs. We ran as soon as we could to the hold and prepared the defenses. For 8 days, and 7 nights our defenses held the damned beasts from the walls. We had gave the basrards a bloody nose, on every turn we could we killed them, runic death traps, burning lava, acidic acid from the mouth of the oldest cave spiders. It helped keep them from the walls but it wasn't enough. For on the 8th day of the seige, the ogri brought not 1, not 2, but 3 Stonefangs we tried to kill the damned things, but they were to tough. And to our shame, reached the gates. For 4 hours they pounded, and when the 4th hour came, gates that had stood for more than 2,000 years broke. That assault costed them all of there Stonefangs, but they were in and with it came a hoard with them. For months on end we fought them in there. And to my dying day, my beard still shivers at the sight those monsters did to the bodies of the dead and their infernal cauldrons. But eventually, we had to make our stand and retreat the rest from the hold, for Karak Vengryn had fallen and now we had to flee or die with it. Many joined the throng that day, and with them we made our stand in the great feasting hall. Ah, that was a glorious battle that day bearding, the full armory of the throng, armed and armored in the full panoply of war, and Marching to do battle with the ogres. But eventually we lost our friends and family, and our enemy grew to numerous for us to kill. For on that day, we came to call that battle, red-ruin. For the blood shed would stain the stone with its quantity. It would end with our king finally slain, after having killed, 4 massively armed and armored tyrants and their bodyguards. His hammers, stayed with him even when he died, there were none who fought so furiously that day then them. And as they died a heap, of ogres surrounded them. We who remained sounded the call, and cowardly fled that day. Never to see the splendors of karak Vengryn, not when we will have died, nor the time of our children, and soon do after their children. We fled, taking the young, the weak, the wounded, and the exhausted from the dregs of the throng, filled with those dawi, from the class we had that couldn't leave in time, and have them take the survivors of a dead throng to live on the hospitality of others. So fell Karak Vengryn, I swear on this day in the DAMMAZ-KRON, for the destruction of Karak Vengryn, the only reparation will be the death of clan gold tooth, and the death of the entire ogri race.
KHAZUKAN KAZAKIT-HA! FOR WE SHALL HAVE VENGENCE!
Wanted to give some lore on how karak vengryn fell,, hope its lore friendly @Mad0Slayer, filled in some changes. But yeah it was more or less a year they held out for, the only problem which is what this ranger is recounting is, there fighting ogres of all things. Sorry, if it wasn't more clear.
A Stonehorn is a massive, horned, woolly beast endemic to the Mountains of Mourn that Ogres tame and use in battle. They are massive beasts of muscle and violence, each several times the size of a Rhinox and -- if it can be believed -- several times as dense. Intelligence is of little import to...

If so then it works the only thing that is really different is how long the fall was (11 Months Which I using as they were a prepared hold and compared to how long it took Ekrund to fall in the Doom of Dragonback which was a good read.) though this piece works nicely for the Final stand of the hold itself.
As for the reason the fall was so long well I using the Doom of Dragonback Book for reference here and it took months for Ekrund to fall and that was from a time when the dwarves were while veterans against elves and chaos had far more peaceful lives and were not as skilled or organised as their later generations forced them to be, plus their defences were fewer than what the standard Kazad-Ankor hold has so factoring that all in is the reason it took so long to fall. (I gonna explore the fall of Vengryn more with flashbacks so to flush out some lore for it but still thanks for the Omake gives me a good final point to work to.)
Also, I promise not to throw Stonehorn's all that often at you as they're nasty but they will appear but generally only 1 at a time maybe 2 if you're a problem but to crack the ancient holds they were and still are used in large numbers to make progress. (Karak Azorn will know this well as it was how that hold will possibly fall)

Uhhh, can't believe I got the 2 confused, I mostly wrote about how a hold like Vengryn could fall against a massive ogre hoard, and came across the fall of Karak Azorn. In how long it took for the hold to fall, generally as all holds are you need tones of troops, and even in the best cases it takes a while, the only reason it was so fast, (for the ogres) is partially, they aren't the holds of the world edge mountains especially the more famous ones. And it was also a massive ogri hoard gathered together. Though, i am fine with the time needed,, it sure ain't Krakauer drake length,, but its respectable considering its from ogres. By the By a long ago there was a ancestors of greassus goldtooth who was able to get more than a dozen tribes together to attack the hold so he could get all of the pretty shiny stuff inside. He unfortunately never got the chance as he was the 4th and final tyrant the king of Vengryn slew that day, and the one that costed his life.
Hey @Mad0Slayer, how many of the monsters are we going to have to fight against involving the ogres especially if you included the stonefangs, and thunderous. Because, there is no way we are going to get a chance to beat them with those types of units around. Oh, and how is the update coming along?

Their around but not in enough numbers that you will see them often but they will be an issue you have to overcome, there is stuff invented to deal with them you just need to buy them from other holds as you lack an engineer clan at the moment. As for the update, it coming along soon the rolls are just making things very... interesting.
"FORM RANKS KAZUKAN KHAZUKA-HA!" You bellowed as you sidestepped a grobi your axe cleaving through its neck as heard the grobi war drums echo from the halls, "Haggar take the front, Johnugrim secure the rear and keep those grobi away from the Thrower." You ordered as you raised your shield to block an arrow before lashing out pulping a grobi's face as it landed in front of you. Grinding your teeth, you glanced at the higher halls the grobi above retreating to avoid the runic flames spreading above.
Glancing back towards Oqet you saw his clapping his hands as he gleefully directed his tribe to strike at the gathered throng as his honour guard remained close at hand, you took a step forward melding into the Ironbreakers as Ancestor Gunnar shined at the head of their formation his runic axe and armour a beacon as he held the front.
You fell into the ranks of the Ironbreakers as you heard the various commanders easily shift the formation under the assault and while the Throng threw back the grobi.

You reached the front in time for the next rotation, the grobi already littering the floor as you replaced a longbeard who was at the front, your blade cleaving through a particularly large grobi as it tried to stab your elder in the back, Glancing over them you could only growl as you met their crimson eyes a spear shot out only to be met by your shield. "DAWI!" You brought your axe down in tandem with those beside you. "Advance!"
The Grobi ahead of you screeched as they jumped into your line one of them even daring to grab your shield as another shoved a blade through an opening floating between you and Logazor the elder easily avoiding a deadly strike as he killed the grobi in your blind spot. "Grimnier's craggy ass Uthor one day your stubbornness is going to get me killed," His shield pushing out as one as he helped push the grobi back your boot crushing a dead grobi as your shield mechanically fell in line with the others.
You felt an arrow shatter against your armour while you blocked a fair few more with your shield making you grunt, "Never, I ain't that stubborn" Your axe cleaved through a second grobi as you watched a wave of fire engulf an upper section ahead of you a flaming boulder running through a section of their line only to fall off the edge of the bridge and into the depths of the hold.
Logazor let out a huff, "So you say but then I wouldn't owe Throsael five gold and an ale, should've never taken that damned bet could you not have waited a month before pulling this damned stunt," He muttered while beheading a grobi.
You slammed a grobi back making it fly into their line the disruption causing a few to fall off the nearby edge as you pushed them back onto the bridge and clearing the latest set of tower halls, "That…" you blocked an arrow and covered him "is not my fault and why would you bet a perfectly good ale?"
You shifted back two grobi following you only to be cut down by your fellow dawi as Logazor fell in line next to you, "Well I thought the last decade had let you gain a few more stones in that empty head of yours, seems I fell short on the mark."
Letting out a sigh you fell into silence and focused on the grobi as they poked at your line with their spears pulling back slightly as you advanced, Narrowing your eyes you looked over their rear line and snarled as you spotted Oqet trying to pull further back as he beheaded one of his own with a runic blade. "Forward Dawi, today we avenge our fallen kin." You growled out as you pushed intent on reclaiming the lost relic.
You took command of the Throng bellowing orders as charged forward the Ironbreakers at your side your axe tasting blood as you coated your armour red the grobi falling before your relentless push, only for an arrow to narrowly slide across your helmet.
Grobi burst from your direct right pouring from the nearby staircase's, while others jumped from above landed amongst your group a blade snapping as it slammed into your armour sending you stumbling forward, "Hold!" You shouted as you felt another grobi jump on your back only for a fellow elder to clear him off you as your advance halted under the grobi assault.
Dwarf Perspective Vs Goblin Stealth
43+16=59 Vs 99+13=112 (Next combat phase Dwarf melee troops suffer a -15 to their rolls)

Logazor growled to your side as you saw his axe take off a grobi arm clean off, "Dammit Uthor!" he shouted out as you crumpled the face of a grobi. "I'll keep this lot off ya just keep the line intact," He charged forward pushing a few more grobi off the edge as you were given a bit of breathing room.
Growling you managed to give yourself some breathing room as you cleaved two grobi in twain and let your elders keep you clear as you glanced around and spotted the line slowly spreading thin as the grobi poured out from nearby halls and staircases while others climbed up from the bridge and engaged your throng the assembled warriors forced to spread out and keep those in the rear safe as you watched a few rune-drakes completely emulate a large group of grobi that intended to flank them giving enough time for some sort of line to hold.
Grabbing your horn you sounded it precisely to guide the Throng to where it was needed as you received replies from the rear line stating that the reserves left there were engaged, you hung your horn off your belt in time to watch a volley of bolts get loosed into the grobi's rear lines stalling their archers as you watched a volley of arrows land amongst the Quarrellers in the hundreds the few dozen dawi all but collapsing as they died or tried to stem the bleeding of arrows that had managed to pierce their armour.
The Rangers fairing a fair bit better as they had hidden amongst the throng striking out at key targets while Johnugrim was nowhere to be seen but you were sure he was doing his part, you sounded your horn a few more times getting the line to at least resemble something proper as you charged back into the fray your charge breaking the bones of a few grobi that looked to try and flank Logazor and his group.

"Your getting slow Log, why I could have sworn I heard you boast of taking on three ogri and living and now you're getting surrounded by grobi," You said as you easily dispatched a few more of the green filth their blood coating the floor of the hold.
A blade glanced of your helmet making you step back as you watched a shield bash the grobi off the edge, Logazor let out a grunt, "Stay focused you ain't a damned beardling and their Grobi it's completely different!" He shouted as you glanced at him…
"BRACE!" one of your elders shouted at your side, glancing back as you raised your shield only for you to buckle backwards as you were rammed from the front, you felt an axe slam into your arm the runes flaring brightly as they held onto the onslaught as grobi in dawi arms and armour slammed into your group, their blades slamming harmlessly against gromril armour and shields, while your runic armour fared better you managed too at least tank a few blows as you fought through the grobi as you lost sight of your fellow dawi.
You beheaded one of the grobi and glanced back to the line only to see an arrow shot through the grobi lines and into an elders eye killing him instantly just as more of the larger grobi slammed into the line completely breaking through as they passed your elders in favour of charging the rear line.
You barely had a chance to call out orders as a grobi jumped onto your shield it's blade glancing off your neck armour, growling you slammed it into a pillar and dodged to the side just in time to avoid an axe with acidic green runes the blow glancing off your armour denting your armour as your runes flashed against the strike.
Snarling you managed to back up just enough to avoid the return strike to see Oqet directly in front of you a mad gleam in his eye, "Now that ain't nice beardy why you gotta deny the girl her blood," he jumped back as you slashed at him only for him to cackle loudly as you blocked him with your shield his grobi giving you a wide berth.

Pushing ahead you slashed at the slug having seen an opening only to spot Oqet's grin widen, "Got ya beardy" his blade coming up in time to hook your axe and pulling it from your grip sending if careening off the edge of the bridge.
Your eyes widened as you ducked under another strike managing to block it with your shield only for the runic blade to slice the top of it off as you danced away from him while lodging your half shield into the throat of a grobi that tried to stab you in the back as you spotted Logazor trying to fight off other grobi as the Ironbreakers tried to fight towards you, only to lose sight as Oqet slashed at you the blade slamming into your armour as the runes flashed again but held under the assault as you were thrown off your feet.
You rolled and managed to stand in time to throw a punch as he struck again, the blade glancing off your armour as your fist connected with his chest making him cough as he was thrown back, taking a breather you saw Oqet snarl a bit of blood on his lips, "I've seen slugs take hits better than that Oget." Only for you to evade a strike from a grobi while another jumped on your back which you threw over your shoulder and drove your shield through its chest.
Spitting on its chest you focused back on Oqet who looked at you with narrowed eyes, "Not bad beardy not bad but ya seem ta think your winning and we cant's have that" he shot out you barely had time to dodge as the axe only for it to come around and get lodged into your shield slashing the straps as its head dug through the shield and grazing the top of your vambrace.
You pulled back as he dislodged his axe and stumbled as his axe swung at you but was blocked by a gromril shield, "Uthor, get a damned weapon!" You glanced over to Logazor and gave him and the two other Ironbrakers at his side a nod noting that they were battered but alive as they fought off the grobi around you, glancing around you looked for a weapon only for Oqet to roar as he and his guards slammed into Logazor's group.
You saw one of the Ironbreakers stumble his foot about to go off the edge, darting out your grabbed his arm and pulled him back but were forced to leave him as a set of grobi came at you only for you to deliver a hammer blow that sent one of them off the edge.

You took a step back towards the line avoiding the axe from the other grobi that came at you, only for you to shove your broken shield into its chest the straps giving out as they snaped the grobi falling off the edge into the chasm below making you gulp as you noted how far down it went, your fellow elders slowly been pushed back, though the grobi failed to make any true ground as they reassembled the line, more dawi slowly pushing towards you.
An arrow slammed into your armour splintering it as you covered your eyes, dropping your arm you had to take a step back as you spotted Oqet dive over your fellow dawi his guard distracting them as he came at you once again, you charged him before he could land your fist just missing him as he tuck and rolled over his fallen ilk to come to a stand a snarl on his face.
He charged you his blade flying past you as threw a punch forcing him back, you saw the grobi grit his teeth as he met your eyes, "Well beardy you put up a good fight but I'll be needing your head for my collection…" a grobi arrow sank into his back as you took a step closer as he stumbled forward allowing you to grab his axe as you shoulder bashed him sending him flying back to his fellow grobi who were crushed under a friendly barrage the umgak aim of the grobi assisting your clan as they cut down those that survived.
You Twirled the axe as you muttered a small cleansing chant only for it to fizzle out and zap you making you hiss as the runes went dim as the magic forged into it clashed with the grobi magic as you turned to Oqet, "I think I would much rather prefer your head!" You charged him as he got to his feet the arrow having snapped off during his landing.
Oqet growled as he danced around you your slash missing him by an inch as he got in close and spat in your eye while landing on your back, "I ain't dying today beardy but I'll be back for me axe and your beard" He said as you felt his legs kick off your back and he went over the edge, turning around you looked over the edge to see him nimbly climb down the edge of the bridge jumping statue to statue before jumping into one of the lower halls that were crawling with grobi, you turned your attention back to the battle making use of the reclaimed blade to spill grobi blood once again.
The battle lasted a short while longer as a dawi horn sounded from behind the battle cries of your kin arriving making you sigh in relief as the grobi that remained broke and without Oqet retreated into their taken halls but they would be easily flushed out.
Glancing back to the assembled throng you could not help but grimace as you saw the Valkyrinn already tending to the wounded as the flame spewed from the edge of the lines clearing the last of the upper halls the grobi having broken with Oqet having fled.
Frowning you saw the dawi at the backline hold long enough for the rest of the reinforcements to crush those foolish enough to have remained, turning back to the front you saw Logazor sitting atop a mound of grobi a pipe in his mouth as he watched the grobi get cut down by bolts and flame.
As you slowly allowed the reinforcements pushed forward a tankard was thrust just ahead of you, "Drink up lad I get the feeling that today gonna be a long one" glancing to the side you saw Logazor looking at you a gash over his eye.
Taking the ale you thanked him as you two fell into silence as the line was established though before you could give out any further orders you received news that the rangers had spotted signs of goblin tunnels about to breech the valley, grimacing you glanced back down into the halls you made the call to…

Gnoblar Spears (Same as Goblin Spears): 1500 Grobi
Gnoblar Archers: 1800 Grobi
So ya, you came close to dying there and ended up suffering an ambush and just about nearly suffered a complete line collapse which would have been the end of nearly your entire line but you managed but ya the goblin archers managed to really hammer you guys, then again they always will especially when your in small numbers, (50 dawi is a very small target for 800 archers even if their bad and they landed quite the number of hits on you). Still your alive and now it's really up to you guys do you hunt down a future threat or do you go and deal with the upcoming assault.
Still, I had fun writing this and on a side note the corruption of the runes are not something I entirely sure about but it seemed like a nice idea so added it in if their is a large backlash against the idea will likely pull it out but I find the idea kind of interesting but it really up to you guys if it gonna stick around.

This is why I hate it when the dice are considered "interesting". I would rather not repeat Karak eight peaks with Belegar and skarsnik. That and the guy barely has 2,000 troops. Which are not only tired, scared, demoralized, and not even at half strength.
Hey, @Mad0Slayer is okay if we can get Johnugrim to come with us instead of the master runesmith?
I am inclined to go hunt down Oqet so he is finished once and for all. That being said, the bastard still has this force to help keep him alive: Oqet's Fighters: 220
Gnoblar Fighters: 774
Gnoblar Spears: 500
Gnoblar Archers: 550

Master Runesmith can provide buffs to the entire party to make everyone tougher and more lethal. Johnugrim comparatively would be the least armored guy in the group and can only be in one place at a time.
You can, there is no limit to building your own private force with the Write in to chase him though the max number is 120 dawi as the rest are needed for dealing with the other assault.
Taking the ale you thanked him as you two fell into silence as the line was established though before you could give out any further orders you received news that the rangers had spotted signs of goblin tunnels about to breech the valley, grimacing you glanced back down into the halls you made the call to…

Well, at least out of 330 odd something men, losing only 30 for more almost 4,000 is pretty good odds, till we factor in what we need in order to help take in the rest of the hold. As for obqet, with his tribe almost wiped out by 2/3s and them having to retreat, while Goblins may be devious and sadistic. But they are inherently cowardly, and I imagine if obqet dies the rest will sprawl into anarchy. This means we won't have to fight almost 2,000 goblins, just whatever is the left over's, if we even get into it, which I hope doesn't occur.

Guys do note, if you want to do this, I would strongly recommend making omakes or contributing art (that you've found or made). You can submit the latter to the discord; or pm it (the links) to MadSlayer or myself
I'm particularly interested in the art option as it's a little tricky finding pics that feel right for updates or battles (and we tend to forget to do it)
We and by we, I mean you have done it for the most part. And I wasn't to sure we were getting bonuses at all from what the rolls suggested. That and the nature of this thread taking so long to update now and again without to many idea's to talk about to be honest. Is why there are so few omakes and art and just general discussions about anything honestly.
