Warhammer: Perseverance and Grudges

[X] Take a small hunting party of (You and 1 Master runesmith and 30 Ironbreakers and 5 Runedrakes) into the lower halls and hunt down Oqet.

I have to agree, we can't leave him alive.

And haha! Johngrun Wicker comes through once again!

Still early days in reclaiming the hold. Though taking out a fifth of the occupying Greenskins is quite nice, wiping; out a tribe will go a long way in securing our position.

Which we will need, because this ambush will sideline 3-5 regiments for the next year.

yep, which is why I have the perfect idea for a target next year because Man this one has just been bad so far for us.

We and by we, I mean you have done it for the most part. And I wasn't to sure we were getting bonuses at all from what the rolls suggested. That and the nature of this thread taking so long to update now and again without to many idea's to talk about to be honest. Is why there are so few omakes and art and just general discussions about anything honestly.
I do also think a major thing is that this is turn 3. So you don't really have as much attachment to the characters, or options to flesh out a snippet of the clan/hold.

I will probably try to write some omakes for this coming turn, but I'm currently working 5 days week, 5-2 shift - so its eating into my drive.

EDIT: and also unlike Dawi change the game or Rings and Grudges, we're not that familiar with the mountains of mourn (this setting essentially being fanon, due to bloodly awful worldbuilding on GW's part for anythign outiside of the Old and New World) like we are with GOT/ASOIAF and Lord of the Rings.

Yep, which was my point in the first place. the main people who could do it are way too busy, the lore and characters aren't really fleshed out and the time for votes closes and work to start on the work is Way too long. I'm sorry though if I insulted any of you for this. I just have not been doing well this past week which is why I'm more critical about the problem this quest has.

Same thought and may as well as help anybody who wanted more intel on the ogres and mourn itself.

well, I did a count and if we assume on the map for oqet's tribe for all of the dots are at a supposed full strength of 300. Then the full strength of the assault that attacked us, was from the bronzebeard hall. The numbers were almost spot on with the total being 5,700 odd goblins. (Only being off by a hundred) This means that the forge roughly has 2,000 odd goblins in it. And it means that with oqet's failed ambush, that means almost half of his tribe got wiped out in that one battle. Not surprised the gnoblars suffered the most casualties out of all of the forces against us, but if we aren't going to get the forge at least we'll get them next turn.

Hey, Mad0slayer , do the omakes we make grant any bonuses like if this is something I like but not cannon, you get a +5, cannon get +10-20, and so forth. Because you so far as I looked over it haven't used them in any way to suggest it existed. Like using the bonuses we had to help clear out the forge or to help in the ambush that followed?

Mad0Slayer

I'm pretty sure I have used them, though will check I tend to only use them when I see something is going to fail or cause an issue otherwise it stays in storage (Plus I think I used one or 2 during the turns will check if I botched the numbers and will fiddle if so otherwise will save it for later use.)

Also from the introduction post (They in all the quests I've done) (Gonna be kicking myself if I not used all of them.)

Omake's: Writing an Omake will give you a bonus to rolls that it relates to. I will decide what is canon and what is not. Any Omake will be counted so if you do write an Omake that is in some ways is a negative for your enemies, well they don't get the bonus but a debuff so you can have some fun there if you want.

How it works:

1-Omake = +10
2-Omake = +15
3-Omake = +20
4-Omake = +20 (With Two Rolls I will take the highest used and add the Bonus)

Vote closed. (Thanks for that will use the others now then (If you guys need them)

Well, I hope whatever is wrong with your PC gets fixed. Its always a pleasant talk with you that makes my day. As for those omakes, you before the war turn in the halls used only 2 of 3 omakes. I know because I had to count every dice roll made and add in the dare for the omakes when they were made. Meaning that outside of that omake(Grobi hunting funnily enough) there another 3 that weren't used at least in part. From what I could get since that was the only one labeled in that entire fight. So with that being the case I know figured out what I want spend my points on for the "Grobi hunting omake".

Now, as for what I would use the Grobi hunting for is reclaiming the forge. The reason being from the way you set up the whole ambush it more or less, could either read as us being pushed out of the forge or use winning after a hard won fighting, just in time for that counter attack I was talking about earlier. The rest would be ones used at your own discretion about what will happen involving the hunt for Oqet, and whatever tricks he has up his sleeve.

The Greentide comes! Part 3 The Hunt for Oqet
The Greentide comes! Part 3 The Hunt for Oqet
Picking up the Trail: 87(Was 2)+12(Intrique)+20(4 Omakes used)=119

Looking around the halls you felt the blood boil at the sight at the desecration of your people's hold, raising your lantern you could see the grobi markings over the walls, running your hand over them you let out a sigh as you moved back into formation, "Gunnar! Ya got anything" Turning back you watched as the Ironbreakers dispatched a group of grobi.

Your elder remained silent as he looked over something, "Aye grobi's getting rusty his group's leaving all sorts of marks looks like their rushing this way, probably a trap though with how shoddy this all is." Warden Thrur grunted as he hefted his drake gun around a corner.

The elder ensured the area was clear, "Noooo… really what did you think the grobi were gonna do, really Gunnar have you taken a blow to the head?"

Frowning you glared at the elder as you heard Gunnar growl though he held his tongue as you glared at Thrur before shaking your head while letting out a grunt as you passed the two and met with a squad of Ironbreakers in the lead and followed the path only to come to a stop as entered a small while staring below.

Oqet's Escape route: 93 (He likes to be prepared apparently and have a lot of contingencies) (He only needs to roll 3 Successful progress rolls to Escape) (Oqet is 2 points ahead so you will have to roll above opposing Goblins and so will you though they don't get a bonus)

Oqet's Tribe Unity: 21+13-20(Crushing defeat)=14 (Failed they have broken badly only his Elite remaining loyal) (Oqet will have to fight to Escape Dc check of 55 added to see if he makes progress)

The Grobi apart of Oqet's tribe slaughtering one another as a great melee occurred around a small grobi tunnel that led to the unknown, looking over the group you could see at least five groups trying to gain control only to stop as you spotted Oget trying to push for his escape, his guard slaughtering those that got in his way.

Spitting off the side you glanced back to Thrur, "Get your squad ready Warden, seems you'll have to guard the rear on this one if we're to catch Oqet" the longbeard nodded as you glanced back down as you readied your axe and shield the weight a little off but it would do as you charged down a nearby staircase coming upon a grobi, you let your weight carry your shield crunching bones as you pivoted to the side your axe in motion bisecting a grobi you had missed as an Ironbreaker carried the charge, your group constantly moving as you quickly cleared the stairway only stopping when you reached the lower hall and came face to face with the Grobi.

Barely taking a moment to breathe you charged into their line your blade swinging as you cleaved through a group of grobi and raised your shield in sync with the Ironbreakers as they dispatched their own grobi "Ironbreakers!" You took a step forward bringing your axe down into a grobi shield only for it to splinter under your strike, "Charge! For the Ironfoot's and Vengryn!" you bellowed as you slammed into the grobi your charge crushing them underfoot.

You felt more than a few practically crumble under your charge as you saw Oqet dispatching those ahead of him with just as much ease, the distraction enough for a grobi to jump on your shield only for an axe to tear past your head and killing the grobi, you gave a nod to the elder at your side as you focused on dispatching more of them, only for Thrur call for aid, glancing to the back you saw the grobi braving the rune fire and getting in close enough that one of the rune-drakes had to use their weapon as a club, "Floki!, take your squad and cover the rear" you blocked a spear and glanced up to see grobi jumping down from the nearby upper halls to make for the tunnel as their groups continued to break apart.

Letting out a grunt as you gave a bit of ground under a half-decent charge before it to was cut down, Oqet seeming a little closer in the mess of grobi.

Closing the Gap: 73+16=89 (Oqet 0,5 points ahead of you) (A bit lucky as you needed above an 80 to make good progress)

Growling you took a deep breath and spurred those around you to charge as you saw gunnar's axe flash out bisecting a grobi as a large group seemed to pour out of a staircase a portion of them slamming into your group as their leader a particularly large grobi charged into Oqet and his line,

Dodging to the side you watched a spear glance off your helmet as you gave more ground as your felt your fellow Ironbreakers seemed to be pushed closer to you, your shield's interlocking for a moment as you were forced to block a flurry of blows, while gunnar seemed to charge out ahead the grobi backing away in fear of them a group even shattering as they ran for the tunnel uncaring for any in their way.

You felt a shock run through your shield and arm as you blocked a downward strike, growling you shot out taking the arm of the offender only for a different spear to glance off your armour, a few pieces of your own chainmail floating off as you fell back into position, "Dammit, we won't reach him in time, Gunnar! burn us a damned path!" You grabbed another spear and shattered it with your axe before shoving the head through an eye.

Gunnar let out a grunt as he slashed out wildly, a wave of flame bursting from his axe disintegrating the most organised of grobi as you heard him curse his gauntlet glowing an angry white, his runes on his armour flaring brightly to protect him, giving a nod to the elder you focused on the task ahead of you as you heard him fall back behind the line.

You stepped in sync as you charged with your kin into the gap more of the grobi pulling back completely as you saw Oqet nearly in your Grasp.

Closing the Gap: 18+16=34 (Oqet 1 point ahead of you)

Though as you filled the Gap your boot's slammed into a new area of dead you felt a hand shoot out and grab your axe hand as a dagger shot out glancing off your chest plate slamming your foot down a group of Oqet's fighters burst from the ground only to be cut down but it was enough as a group of grobi to your slammed into your sending you into a fellow dawi as you felt your damaged neck armour come undone your helmet falling off as you felt the wind knocked off you, taking a breath of noxious air the smell of pungent grobi all that more potent without even the most basic of protection.

You felt a hand pull you back just in time to watch a glowing red gauntlet shoot out and grab a grobi whose spear got off a bit of your top hair only for it to screech as gunnar's Gauntlet sealed around it's arm, you quickly delivered a blow to it's head ending its pathetic excuse of a life, "Thanks Gunnar I owe you an ale for that,"

Your elder runesmith let out a huff, "I would rather you allow me to look at those Goggles you keep locked away" He blocked a blow with his shield before punching a grobi killing it instantly, Gunnar's gauntlet hot enough that it seared the greenskins face, "Rune of Perception is hard to come by these days and I'm working on crafting one" he said as you cleaved a grobi in two.

You let out a huff, "I'll consider it, though later I want to ring that bloody grobi's throat for what he did to this axe" You said before taking a few steps forward to keep up with your fellow dawi as you heard your elder agree before another group of grobi charged into you, a stream of flame culling their number before they could gain to much ground as you saw Oqet begging to dispatch the last of the grobi in his way.

Closing the Gap: 99+16=115

Too busy snarling you failed hear the elder runesmith's reply as you watched the last dredges standing in your way begin to retreat in outright terror, "Khazuk khazuk-ha!" Your war cry was matched by your kin as together you charged into routing the grobi. Leaping into the air, you swung your axe down, your blade biting deeply into grobi flesh, once dull runes of Grobi Slaying glowing furiously as they drank in the dark blood.

The grobi ahead of you completely broke apart as you rammed through their lines their bones shattering under gromril armour as your armour was coated red, you slashed a grobi in two careful to make sure none of its vile blood spilt on your beard as you continued to push forward the grobi nothing more than a hill against a Dura-Goruz (Stonehorn) as you cut a bloody swathe through the group.

An Inferno at your back as the rune-drakes let lose the grobi screaming out in fear as their route was blocked, your group dispatching the last of the grobi in front of you as you spotted Oqet dispatch with the large grobi as he turned to grin at you.

It took you a moment to realise that he was about to escape the weakest of his fighters turning to face you, ignoring them you braced behind your shield and charged, you felt the first grobi impact your shield, digging your foot in you pushed forward the grobi going flying above your shield as two more joined you in the charge, your axe in motion as you swung at the warboss only for him to avoid your strike and bury a dagger through the eye of one of your kin.

Twisting on your feet you brought your axe around killing one of his guard to see the last of his tribe stall the rest of your group as he seemed to wave off his followers as he glared at you, "Ya beardies are all the same, all ta stubborn to let a good thing last, always getting in me way and taking away me loot," He dashed forward as you blocked his dagger only for him to use your shield to keep him out of view as he delivered vicious stabs and strikes that glanced off your rune armour. He grinned at you as he gave some distance to circle you, "But ya all die the same"

Growling you dropped your shield, "Could you just shut your bloody mouth and do the hold a favour and die" you stepped into a jab of his, your armour taking the strike as your hand shot out, only to grasp air while blocking a follow-up strike only for Oqet to easily sidestep as you fell for a faint his blade flashing across your face as you grunted.

You hissed as you wiped the blood out of your eye in time to raise your axe, blocking a strike aimed at your head. But instead of snarling the greenskin only grinned, before ducking under, and slashed a green tinged dagger against your wrist. steel armour rent like butter and you roared in pain. Blinking back, you dropped your shield and wrestled with the grobi for your axe, the goblin already raising it up in triumph. Your strength leaving you, our struggled for a moment longer before you felt a blow slam you across the head staggering you, your vision blurry "Well tried beardy, but dat's mine, was a good scrap too."

You shook your head managing to throw a punch the sent Oqet stumbling back as you stumbled your wrist warm as you started seeing doubles, you tried to speak only for it to come out slurred as you collapsed, your vison going dark, "Oi Boss we…"

Stoaya Ogri's Bane staying in the hold this turn: 78 (She will stick around)

You jolted only to hiss which turned into a cough as your throat felt like you'd swallowed gravel your head spinning trying to sit up you body protested as you felt your muscles burn, only for a hand to hold you down, your vision clearing as you saw a Kvinn healer above you giving you a stern glare, "Don't move too much ya bloody wazzock," You felt someone lift your head as they poured something down your throat making you gulp, the faint taste of honey as you lay down reluctantly as they went about their checks.

Logazor entered shortly followed by Stoaya her armour runes glinting as if freshly crafted and her Plait's hanging just above her knees as she glared at you, while Logazor looked culled as he kept a good distance between himself and her as she seemed to lean over you her arms crossed, "Uthor, good to see you awake" her glare melting as she laid a hand on your shoulder, "Now as much as I want to speak with my Nephew in peace" She shot a glare towards one of the clan "That little spat you had with Hruggan has strained things enough that it seems even family is distrusted" She frowned before shaking her head, "Thankfully we can at least speak, though that lass from Donarkhun was damned stubborn about letting me in" She grabbed a nearby chair to sit in, "Seems she's not all that fond of me, not that surprising the Donarkhuns wouldn't know the difference between an Ogri's ass and a proper rune,"

You chuckled at that and tried to rise a great deal of effort required as you felt your muscles tire quickly, "I suppose though they're not all that bad, or are you taking back what you said about Anadrenna, also what are you doing here, thought you were at the Eastern Bastions?"

She flushed slightly while muttering about impudent youth before shaking her head while letting out a sigh while handing your uninjured hand an ale, "I was, that is until I got a message from your brother and had to make my way down here," you glanced at your hand weirdly before taking a sip as she spoke before it registered making you cough into your tankard.

Lowering it quickly "That's a good month's march through the safe lanes, how in the Ancestors are you here and how long was I out" the look you received made your stomach flip as she ran a hand through her hair.

She seemed to contemplate something before letting out a sigh, "Aye it is and as for how long you were out, well long enough for you to look like you took a hike in ogri country, been about six months now since the incursion, though it seems most of the losses were from Oqet and his Tribe, as is I heard your brother managed to scrounge up enough rangers to organise a hunt but his trails to cold now." She seemed distinctly unhappy with that before shrugging.

You nodded as you glanced down at your hands and grimaced as you pulled back one of the sleaves to reveal a rather thin arm, your muscles nothing more than an elgram stick as you let out a sigh and closed your eyes only to feel something strange behind the one bandage, raising your hand you ran it over the area only to feel skin.

Your breath hitched as you managed to jump out of bed your legs shaking from the effort as you stumbled over to a washbasin to see your reflection a long scar running from the top of your mouth to your hairline. Closing your eye you breathed deeply as you felt the basin shatter under your grip, stumbling back to your bed and collapsed as your muscles burned. "We tried to save it lad." the Kvinn said, patting you on the shoulder. "The cut didn't even reach the eye itself, but the grobi must have had something coating the blade. We had to cut deep to remove the tainted flesh, and by that point, your eye was claimed." She sighed. "Scar should heal up decently if you take your medicine, and follow Runelord Gunnar's advice. Maybe even completely if he's right with his runes, but the eye's gone." She led you to a small jar, where sat a sickly green eyeball, the iris glowing with purple light.

You said nothing only steeling yourself for was likely to be a long recovery. No doubt her ladyship had already taken control of the hold, something you'd have to claw back for every foot she'd taken in your absence, Rothgar was nowhere to be seen, hopefully, the lad had done well. And judging from the bronze tablet by your bed, you were in for the extortion of the century for a replacement eye. Something you, yourself would make if not for that infernal grudge from your master! Slowly you took a deep breath and set your mind to future tasks, there was more to do as you tried to distract yourself from what had happened, but there would be a reckoning for this.

Letting out a sigh you glanced to your Aunt as you steeled yourself, "Could you send word to my Throne Bearers and for the council to gather, seems I've been resting for too long it seems" Stoaya grunted while giving you a nod.

Though as she stood up she halted for a moment, "I'll get your Throne Bearers and while you should rest I know that look too well to stop ya, Still it shouldn't be too hard to reach the Council, Last I heard Lady Sif has been holding them in a meeting for the last day" She shook her head as she quickly sent a runner for those that would carry you before turning to you, "It's probably for the best last I Heard Rothgar has been helping some of your clans elders keep ahead of her with all her edicts and orders."

You grunted as you saw Logazor and a few full beards enter carrying a throne, you spotted Belegoth amongst them and gave him a nod and received a grin before he fell into formation as you managed to stand for a bit and get into the Throne. "That's good, though would have thought he would be out of all the meeting with me no longer there?"

Your Aunt shrugged as she walked beside you as you left the tent the few dawi of the hold giving you a small nod before focusing back on her as an odd look crossed her face before she shook it off and turned to you, "Oh he would have but it seems he's picked up on a few things and with all your notes it's kept him as an advisor, a good thing as a few of his ideas are the only reason she failed to wrestle complete control of the hold from you."

Shaking your head a grin came to your face as you leaned into your chair, "That's good, will have to do something for the lad, still, it's been a little over a decade since I've seen you and I would rather catch-up than speak of our upcoming struggle" You said as your Aunt gave you a nod, the two of you falling into easy conversation as you travelled through the hold.

***

The throneroom was different, you noticed, from the last time you were here,

Gone were the familiar colours of your clan. Instead, a wide selection of purples sailed down from the ceiling. Ahead you could hear a familiar voice chanting away imperiously...

Grunting you silently signalled your Throne bearers to let you down as only a few of the longbeards guards noted your presence but they said nothing only giving you a nod, entering the room you saw your clan's elders and Rothgar at their side while the Various clan's Thanes had their focus on Lady Sif who seemed to lean against her chair's arm looking at the top of the hall.

We've spoken of this already Giantsbane, I don't see why your clans lack of guards is any concern of mine, your clan should have thought of this already before you chose to reclaim the hold..." She continued onwards, clearly loving the sound of her own voice. "The rangers have already spoken of the mines been clear and see little reason…" You filtered what she said next out.

You walked over silently, clad in your royal robes as you advanced to the throne your legs burning from exertion as Rothgar perked up at seeing you, but you quickly put a finger to your lips before reaching just next to 'your' throne. "The nerve of some of these thanes." you sighed leaning in.

Sif groaned absentmindedly, kneading her eyelids. "Tell me about i... Ya!" She vaulted at the sight of you, before quickly leaping out of your throne.

"K-k-king Uthor..."

You raised an eyebrow as you stared at her, "Aye, now as much as I would like to speak with you personally I need a report on the hold and what is been done," You sat in your chair as you held back a sigh of relief watching the impudent Kvinn retreat to her chair, "Once that's done I'll hear about your issues and Flint I'll see about rotating some dawi to cover you're your miners once I've reviewed a few things."

It was a rare sightseeing the majority of the thanes agree, as one they nodded their heads in respect to you, but you'd swear till your dying day, when you first sat down, you spotted at least two of them shed a tear. Meanwhile blustering away still thanes Sif and Grimli attempted to glare holes through your head. Laying out your stronger, sadly left arm Rothgar handed over the days missives... It was a thankless task but as you settled back in and despite how tired you felt, you relished in the feeling that it seemed you were not the only one to be relieved you were back in control.

Still enjoy guys. Will work on the next update soon.

So, so, so close to killing that but he keeps Cristina every time fights. That and unless he rolls a one, and somebody something higher, than he always get find on his health rolls. I goddammit hate that Grobi!

I don't suppose we could fix that by getting help from a handy rune lord maybe?

Who's in favor of wiping out the other tribe before we deal with the dark spears?
