Goddamn Vampires

Albin slid the crossbow under his bed, letting the steel rest on the wood. He flicked a piece off his shoulder, letting the detritus hit the ground. Sliding off his gilded chainmail, he threw himself into his bed; it was a filthy, stained thing, but after a week of camping in the woods, anything would be better.

In any case, the bed fit the room; the paint was peeling, the drawers were splinter ridden, unstained things, and the floor was bare stone. The only saving grace, in any manner, was a window peering out into the mountains-- and that was hardly a gift considering his line of work.

Still, he let himself take a nap, eyes closing; and for ten minutes he let himself sleep.

Then, a quiet but insistent knocking on his door woke him, and he rose with a murderous glare.

He stomped over to the Door, boots pounding on the stone; it was with a tired gaze that he reached the door.

Before he could open it, though, it was flung open. He reeled back, taking a few steps-- only to trip over his crossbow that had, at some point been lain out through the room as a hazard. He tripped-- and plummeted through a window.

He felt something cut into his shoulder and the sound of boots, heavy and thick, stepping through the glass shards.

A heavy shadow, silhouetted with a cloak, fell over him; looking up, he saw a woman-- pale as the moon and cloaked in night's embrace.

She looked down at him with a disdainful stare. "Nice fall. Managed to only pierce your shoulder; you could, probably, run away and escape me; I've got bigger leads, though none quite so stupid as to leave the holster for their crossbow in broad daylight."

Albin felt some small hope rise up in his chest-- only for it to deflate with a "but".

"But those windows are filthy; you wouldn't believe what I've seen happening on them, never mind by them. And that's the kind of filth that will slowly fester; it'll bite into the wound like a hound, ripping through you over days and days, attacking your mind and tearing your soul to shreds. By the time the infections done with you, you'll wish you'd bled out- it would have been faster.

And it just so happens that I have access to only healer who might manage to save you in a fortnight's ride."

The assassin looked to the left, the contract; then to the right, where he saw the glass sticking out from his shoulder, and he sighed.

"What do you want?"

"Just a name, and you get to live for at least week. Who hired you?"

"Yann. Yann the Younger."

Her eyes go wide, then she gives a cold, cold smile.

"Really? Then it seems we must talk more assassin. Be proud-- you managed to survive a week after bringing a crossbow into Bretonnian lands, not something many could do."

Hoo boy, that's not good. Though at least it wasn't a crit fail, and we might be able to stop her with what we know now.

Also, I might be wrong, but shouldn't The New Guys On The Block be finished? It was 4 turns long and we started it Turn 12 so I think it should have been completed this turn.
Yep.

Right now it's late so I'll get it done tomorrow, but it will be fixed.

Also with them was a small-- perhaps dozen-- number of young Elven mages who, even nearly adolescents by their people's standards, have proved quite helpful in destroying the magical fuckery of Necromancers.

No one like nercomancers. Even other nercomancers don't like nercomancers.
