And, after quite a lot of confusion, there was much rejoicing.
Docks renovation project upcoming?
Fortunately, I'm pretty sure that an adult male a week, or equivalent, disappearing as food would be noticeable pretty quickly.
Totally: 'it depends'. On the size of the city and the number of people living there nobody cares about. 1 per week is 53 (I grant some end of year indulgence) per year - look up some missed cases numbers.
A quick google gave me:
According to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Missing Person and Unidentified Person Files for the 2021 operational year, 521,705 people were reported missing in 2021. Moreover, 93,718 of those people remained actively missing at the start of 2022.

Is it wrong of me to want Drider-Taylor to start corresponding with the insect professor? Yeah, probably, since it would cause so many psychological problems in others if they found out, but he would be SO happy to discuss things with her. 😁

No points for half answers! Water at a constant pressure and temperature has constant density. Without going into the shenanigans with ice, water at sea level pressure and 95 degrees Celsius has only 96% or so the density of water at the same pressure with a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. Source.

I stand corrected and I thank you for the correction, my good sir.

Wait, she can control octouses too? Dont they have gigachad brains? Uh I guess we can have an Urdula variant dryder too

Taylor: "I should totally warn the nice octopi."
[QA]: "Not an arthropod!"
Taylor: "Come on power, you know you want to!"
[QA]: "But - rules!"
Taylor: "Don't make me do it!"
[QA]: " ... "

Assault needs a Drider encounter...

"I understand you proposed the name SHE?"

Cautiously, "Yes...".

"So, is that 'SHE Who Must Be Obeyed', I wonder?"

"I... really wouldn't know. Can... I have your autograph?"

"Of course! And, would you like one 'With Affection, for Emily', as well?"

Not something that I could see many take routine interest in, but I could see them having a website with all those cameras streaming and recording for about 24-48 hours or so.
To be honest, I'd expect several webcams to be active across the entire Ships' Graveyard. It's an easy way to keep track of any Capes using the area for personal power testing or materials acquisition. Of course, the storm probably really screwed with the views, but isn't flawed video one of the hallmarks of any potential cryptid sighting? ;)

Possible problem if they ever find out, because that awareness could, theoretically make her either an accomplice or accessory for not reporting on criminal activities, or something of that nature, if/when someone wants to be an asshole about things.
Probably not, since Taylor seems to be going all in on performing bug interrupts of every potential criminal activity she detects. And we've already seen that being inside private domiciles doesn't matter to her if the potential actions could be harmful.

🤔 There are several types of insects that use false eye patterns as threat displays. Now, consider the possibilities if she adds bioluminescence to the patterns.... :ogles:

You're going for bug-sourced pseudo-hauntings, aren't you? The spectre with the faint outline, the glowing eyes, the boney hand pointing, that is in fact a flying bug-construct? Some of which are glowing? If needed, the bugs that provide lighting-sources, while remaining out of lines-of-sight?

Evil...

Taylor will-be/could-be a lot more... manifestations, than the odd glimpse of a cryptid, or talking manhole-replacing HOUS...

With drider cable? It would probably greatly reassure the PRT if SHE had a legitimate income for buying the occasional side of beef. And doughnuts. Everyone likes donuts.
Not with drider cable. It's too elastic for the job.
"Assault... Assault... Assault. Are you seriously telling the giant female spider that she looks fat?"
"I like big bugs an' I can not lie,
You otha brothas can't deny..."

I would be fascinated to test this material. The tensile strength is likely to be substantially higher than that of Caerostris darwini which is the greatest currently known to science. I would dearly like to find out how much higher."

So would I. One or two orders of magnitude might put it into space elevator range. And given that the Endbringers' cycle has been disrupted, it might be possible to put that fact into practice.

By the way, the Darwin's bark spider does not appear to have the highest tensile strength, according to this dataset. It does well on other properties, but not that one.

Ah. A useful resource I missed. Thanks :)

I shall correct the historical documents, as scientific accuracy is important :D

Edit: And fixed :)

If Assault actually said that where Taylor could hear that (as in anywhere in Brockton Bay), she'd probably try to set up a meeting of sorts with him to ask for an autograph ... just for the lulz of it ...
She could arange an... anonymous meeting with Battery, first, to ask if it was OK she approach Assault? No reason not to be polite about things?

Looking over the data, it seems the Darwin's Bark Spider takes top marks for Strain at Break, which is likely the source of the confusion.

If Taylor adds some abrasives to the exterior of some silk line, it would make a wicked bandsaw blade. Or chainsaw blade. All she would need to do is make it in closed loops.

Custom spinneret shapes could lead to some really useful blades too.

I think the professor was a bit too obtuse/absent-minded, etc. last chapter. Like if i was piggot at this point i would be looking for any other entomologist at all. I mean they may be just as obsessed but will at least answer a question, when i asked. Or even understand why giant insects and spiders showing up are something to worry about.
