Vespa

MP pi I just had a strange thought how about a chapter where Taylor as Vespa flies to the BBU and asks to talk to professor Brooks and he gets the only face to face interview and get to see all her various arthopod forms being a loonie academic he would probably not tell the PRT her id for want of further interviews and seeing him tell the PRT that Vespa and the giant spider are just a single parahuman with multiple changer forms would be funny as all hell:whistle::rofl:

A secret remains a secret only if two people know it. And one of them is in the grave.

I Swear, people have extreme difficulty with concepts such as "keeping a low profile" and "intentionally not letting others know full capabilities".

Considering he's a paid consultant for the PRT, Professor Brooks likely would be informing the PRT. Not to mention, Taylor does not want anyone other then her dad to know about her powers. She doesn't want to be thrown in the birdcage or killed out of hand as a "bio tinker". She doesn't want the public to know about her existence at all beyond "giant talking insects exist", which came out to the public due to events beyond her expectations... Namely rescuing Vista from Hookwolf. The "Dragonfly racing Glory Girl" bit occurred with zero proof (to Taylor's knowledge) beyond Glory Girl's word.

Doing things like "reveal shapeshifting to X person who is regularly being called in as a consultant" are the exact opposite of keeping a low profile. Okay, granted Taylor's not good at maintaining a low profile. But she isn't doing anything that overt. And especially not doing anything which would let the PRT know even a fraction of her true capabilities.

While I can't see her revealing the shapeshifter info, I can, in theory, see her observing the professor, and having her Vesta form wander past and wave at him and say hello, nice day isn't it? Just for amusement. Although she's likely a little distracted by the events happening on the west coast where she is right now, so that doesn't seem likely any time soon.

Honestly, it feels more likely that Taylor will (accidentally) troll Lung again as Vespa then deliberately troll a researcher she's aware consults for the PRT.

Vespa was her first (public) use of her powers, her drider was her E88 poke, twin Vespa trolled Kenta. Also, rockworms (covertly) removed the Boat Graveyard, dragonfly raced Glory Girl...

Should we expect something with centipedes? The Merchants having a drug+clothes eating moth problem? Giant ants (Gi-Ants?) visiting Uber+Leet, with calling cards? Musical insects, 'They Might Be Gi-Ants'?

Who knows??? :)

Not my favorite one, but...

Why you don't do applied research on a 'paperclip optimizer'...

Her first official public appearance will be at Sundance Film Festival, where a small side project she helped some film students of the Brockton Bay University School of Dramatic Arts with blows nation-wide and causes a bit of a creature feature revival.

Personally, I expect the next "public" appearance to be, with Coil out of the picture, convincing Skidmark his latest batch of product to be really GOOD shit...

Unfortunately, I don't think this Taylor can pull off the 'Hello Kitty mega spider' thing...
Dunno...

But, even canon Taylor can do the line-dancing, square-dancing, ballroom-dancing, spiders, all competing...

And, this Taylor can throw-in the full big-band insect performers... On the ceiling... After re-arranging the room so all the furniture is stuck there, so Skidmark looks upside-down..

(No, I'm not going to speculate on Taylor's 'adventures in (parahuman) biochemistry' (Shaper doing the heavy-lifting?) and what that could do to Skidmark's neuro-chemistry. Not... pretty. So, no, just, no.)

Taylor once entered a spider into an Elvis impersonator contest in Las Vegas. It made third place. True fact.

This year, yeah it was. Previous years did something so that specific names in stories were all replaced, which caused confusion and panic. As well as mass outcry.

I think that was more because it broke a lot of links. Since they did a mass find/replace of names, a lot of internal links suddenly didn't work anymore. (It didn't effect threadmarks IIRC but it did effect authors signatures with their other works etc.)

I for one was not interested in reading Louise Varga or Louise is DOOMed...

Oh I dunno, Louise Valliere with a Super Shotgun in her native realm could be funny. The story even comes with a built-in isekai-hook; oops the summoning ritual ran backwards somehow and sucked her away.

Later investigation at the site of the ritual ends up showing she accidentally inverted the source and destination runes causing herself to be sent to the summoned being. Ooops!

From memory, that April Fool inspired me to writing an omake where Louise's Familiar was a (generously hovering on anti-gravs) CSU* Bolo ... Arguably... a bit more up-market than a Super Shotgun (or even a (basic) Varga),,, :)

"So, 'Mr. Retief' *, you are an... avatar of my Familiar? Which is now... At a safe distance?"

"I'm more... a social interaction... subsystem. Something of a... diplomat, I'd hope. 'Living flesh over a flint-steel endoskeleton', to misquote someone. Lets me taste the wine... dance with the pretty ladies."

* suspicious look *

"Call me 'Jame'."

*bows and brushes lips just over back of hand *

* honest this isn't a blush *

* CSU - 'Continental Siege Unit', for when a 'Planetary Siege Unit' would be excessive... Unit RTF of the Dinochrome Brigade is... a little unusual, in that they are skilled in diplomatic warfare, sorry, 'engagements'...

* Jame Retief - nuff said :)
(Last seen inspecting the Diplomatic Expenses Voucher Files...)

((Just to be clear, Keith Laumer was the author of both the 'Bolo' and the 'Retief' stories. Was, BTW, a professional diplomat.))

It annoyed readers, it annoyed authors, and it was breaking the site. There's a damn good reason that "prank" was ended as quickly as it was.

I know some authors delayed releasing chapters because of it since that joke would kill the tone.

They also reversed the names of the staff on the Staff page, as well as inverting the palette of their avatars.

Oh that explains it. I had one threadmark update alert that day where the name was backwards and thought it was maybe only for threadmark alerts but it was because the author was also staff.
