The chances of a last minute Phantasmal-less Plan is low
But never zero
Nevertheless give me a bit

Edit: hahahaha
Congrats on your first failed roll
Don't worry you still get the bond point it'll just be a single bond point rather than the potential 2

This is why I always run the numbers based on worst case scenarios.

Anyway
A thought, if Leaf being a blank slate protagonist meant she could basically just take Sara's personality, I wonder who else has gotten an emergency personality transplant?

I'm struggling with who Estelle would be. Obvious Liberl parallels in Galar say Gloria or I guess Hop. But Nemona is a huge fan of Dawn, so she has to be the one dispensing the U-l-t-r-a-V-i-o-l-e-n-c-e. She even has some of the sun symbolism in her name!

Plus Gloria is definitely Becky. For no other reason than that I refuse to accept a Gloria that isn't aggressively Scottish.

Red is Lloyd, having gotten over the barrier and defeated the endemic political corruption of the Kanto region. Selene is Juna, because if the rapport between her and two Champions fourteen years her senior is known she's clearly an ascended fangirl. Either that or she's Red & Blue's unofficially adopted daughter.
I'm avoiding getting too deep on this kind of direct equivalency until we get more data, mostly because so far for Trails we've got one Pokémon character with the Trails character's personality (Leaf), one who's played the same role (Rose), and a handful who are unchanged but might potentially fill the character dynamics as the Quest goes on (Nemona, Atticus). Everyone else being OCs.

That said I fully endorse Becky-Gloria as the heroine of the Galar arc because that's amazing.

I think becky should have been the main character, its like only her an her ad who speak like that. this is just writing a universal wrong

Ganzorig Dagger: Made of folded Skarmory wings, the dagger is lightweight and wicked sharp. Deeply valuable to you personally and to your culture. It can be used by a human or any Pokemon that can hold a weapon. Its material means it can absorb Steel and Flying Type Energy up to the 4th Badge Level. Will be an effective tool up to the 4th Badge Level. CANNOT BE USED BY A POKEMON DURING A LEAGUE SANCTIONED BATTLE.
I know it was confirmed that we could give this to a Tinkatink to use for their steel equipment, but how would that work with the last requirement? The way it's written implies they'd either have to fight without it or would only be able to fight normal trainers/wild Pokémon.

The Dagger as it is can only be used to fight wild Pokemon, and uh criminals and other reprobates. Once reforged by a Tinkaton line member, it technically becomes a part of them. That and its a held item and those only become valid for use during the Conference and up.

I'm still in favor of having Roland ram something at high speed while holding the dagger in his mouth, to qualify as either Iron Head or Steel Wing :V

For finding pokemon purposes - Cortondo had Normal, Grass, and Bug pokemon as it's chargen choices, so those will be the easiest to find there. There are caves and ruins nearby (with wild Tinkaton in the games) that may have more variety aswell, but don't know if they will be as easy to access.

Notably, wild Eevee are fairly easy to find in Cortondo compared to most Pokemon games. And there are a versatile pokemon which can fill many eventual roles on Mariana's team. Don't know how searching for Pokemon on a FE will be more targetted than stumbling on a Pokemon Den, but there are something to look out for.

Edit: Here's the encounter list for South Province Area Two in S&V, which contains Cortondo. Gives and idea of the Pokemon to be found there, although there's also a close patch of Area Four to add aswell.

Nice, Roland would resist bug type damage. Not that type advantage is all we have to worry about in a battle, but for the first gym they probably aren't going to pull out the bullshit strategies.

Katy isn't allowed to pull out bullshit strategies in general. When you fighter her in the post game gym rematches, she mentions that she actually has orders from higher up in the league to always have the kid gloves on during Gym Matches.

There's quite a few places in Pokémon games that imply that certain gyms are capped in terms of what they're allowed to do by League rules/orders (Cheren in B2/W2 whines about it like he whines about everything else in his life). Of course, there's plenty of things in adaptations that also imply that Gym leaders intentionally powerscale themelves to the trainer challenging them. That's demonstrably not the case in Scarlet/Violet since it's an open world game with no level scaling, but there's no reason Arvis couldn't go with the latter interpretation in this quest. That said, we're a badgeless newbie regardless, so while Katy might turn up the heat with her ace if we just stomp her lead, she's going to come in prepared to challenge a badgeless newbie regardless of what interpretation we're going for.

Regarding strategy, Roland does have a defensive advantage over anything Katy (or for that matter Brassius, the next highest-level gym leader in canon Paldea) is likely to throw at us, resisting Bug (and Grass) and super-resisting Normal. That said, he had the same advantages against Sunny and still got nearly one-shot, and while I don't expect a Gym Leader to be Nemona's level of......Nemona, Katy does do this for a living and is here to challenge trainers. I really hope we can pick up a Fire or Flying second team member before going to the Gym, and if we roll a Fletchling at any point I'm voting for that at Extremespeed.

EDIT: Actually Katy's canon Tarountula has a Dark-type coverage move which is a problem for Roland, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was more of that around either, so let's not count too much on defensive typing here. In any case we'll probably want to put Terastilize (Dragon) into our strategy.

Hmmm.

Maschiff or Murkrow look like the most likely odds for a Dark-type, if we're trying to keep an eye out for one. If we're going to be repairing the stakes eventually, then we do need to pick one up eventually since it's a two-mon job, and hopefully Espurr will be amenable to being the Psychic-type half of the ritual by that point. Across the river towards Alfornada there's a few more options (Sableye my beloved, Houndour), and Nymble evolves into a Dark-type eventually, though I don't know if a secondary Dark-typing will be sufficient to learn the Sealing Spell.

Food for thought, I guess. It's not urgent but something to keep thinking about.

GAINED ITEM "TRAINING MANUAL 'SEALING SPELL'": Is Fiendish Dark-Type Move. Pioneered by monks of the Geomantic Church as a way to seal hostile Ghost and Dark Pokemon. It traps and separates the offending Pokemon from using or manipulating Type Energy. Is needed to repair damaged Ruin Stakes. Has no effect on deactivated or destroyed Stakes. Mariana needs 12 KNOW to be able to teach to a Pokemon. Can only be learned by a 6th Badge Level Psychic or Dark Type Pokemon. Requires them to have mastered a Complex Move.
There's no indication that Sealing Spell is a two-Mon job. It's just a Dark-type move (changed to Complex rather than Fiendish in a later post) that can be learned by a Psychic- or Dark-type Pokémon of sufficient strength.
